Snap Counts 2.0 2017 edition (4 Viewers)

Footballguy
This was a good exercise for me last year. I dunno if I can contribute as much as last year, but we'll see.

KC/NE:

First thing's first:  Daniel Sorenson seems like a top priority pick up to me.  Anyone think not, please talk me out of it.  Berry is out, and Sorenson is definitely NOT a deep guy.  Ramik Wilson only had 25 snaps, was out of nickel, and Reggie Ragland is in town.  I'm not interested in rostering either of these guys.  Phillip Gaines was the nickel, and Terrance Mitchell was the starter, so I'm starting Mitchell at CB for the foreseeable future (Marcus Peters effect).

For the Pats, well, where to start?  Davis Harris played 2 snaps, entered the game with 7 min left in the 3rd Q.  Elandon Roberts played 9.  Kyle Van Noy-68.  Someone called Jordan Richards played 41 snaps as a S, but pretty much as a LB.  Van Noy and Richards both seem like the guys to own, but their effectiveness is in question.  I may have missed the Van Noy train, because I always thought of him as an edge guy in DET, and with Roberts and Harris, I didn't see the buzz.

A great thread last year.... I'm in!

My personal opinion is that Van Noy won't last in the middle. He was consistently washed out and his tackles were chase-style tackles that took place 6+ yards away from the LOS.

I probably have Sorenson in all of my leagues, so take this with a grain of salt... His usage next week will be really telling. Last year, he came in to play nickel LB. He had sneaky value. If you could pick games where KC was going to be in the nickel a lot, you could get decent production from him. Last night, he again played nickel LB which is why Ramik's snaps were so low. If Sorenson plays S in the base and LB in sub packages with Eric Murray coming in to play S, he could put up really good numbers this year.

Awwwwww SNAP my favorite thread is back! :pickle:

But yeah... other than that 15 yard penalty for ripping a guy off the pile - go Sorenson go.  Emotional dude.

Duke Riley named starter in ATL.

I was on the Riley bandwagon, have him in two of three leagues, and like him.  Well, I dunno if I was on the bandwagon, but he was cheap this summer, and I kept being happy to scoop him up.  8th round in this league

All signs pointing up for him, no doubt but I have questions about ATL back 7. I think there will be enough rotation with D'Vondre Campbell to annoy, and you already have Deion Jones and Keanu Neal as tackle hogs back there.  All playing for a team that will keep the ball on offense a good amount.  I like Riley's outlook as a player, but I dunno how high the ceiling goes.

McCourty

With a porous front seven in New England, is Devin McCourty in line for more big games in the tackle column? I know there will be changes to come in NE on the defensive side, but if he remains in clean up duty like he was against KC he might outperform expectations.

Duke Riley

You get this feeling that Atlanta wants all three linebackers on the field at times this year. I can not wait to see how this plays out in Atlanta. With there high powered offense all three may be on the field due to the speed that they can bring as a unit. If Riley can get in their for subpackages he'll be productive, even with Jones and Neal in the neighborhood.

...their's something off they're and I just can't put my finger on it.

McCourty should be a priority add if he's on the wire. The chiefs have a good team but the way the Pats front got pushed around isn't likley to go away quickly. McCourty is an every down guy and certainly looks poised to continue with high tackle counts until NE figures out a LB rotation that isn't a whole slew of JAGs. Since the LB roster is currently a whole slew of JAGs, McCourty is a smart add.

Some stuff about this thread:

When I watch the games, I rarely pay attention to too much IDP, or even fantasy.  I am not the guy with his scores up on a tablet, and I don't pay attention to formations, who's playing close to the line of scrimmage (like John Norton, for example).  I watch my team play, and RedZone when they aren't on, which is about the most enjoyable thing in the world, but isn't conducive to helping make fantasy decisions.  It took a long time for me to realize I enjoy football much more when I just watch it all happen, and keep my nose out of the dang fantasy scores.  I'll check them later.

All that to say that the snap count thoughts are mostly to find data points worth exploring in further detail.  Player X played less than expected, Player Y played more, time for me to do some digging on Twitter, and see what's up.  Observations on snap counts aren't to be used to make fantasy decisions, it is a tool to try and find the guy who's going to see his workload increase, BEFORE he has the breakout game. Observation from watching the game are invaluable, please chime in.  I know Bostic played a lot for Indy, but I dunno if he played well.  I can see a player only played 43%, but I dunno if he was banged up, and left the field for a bit.

I mainly started doing this because I felt like the IDP coverage internet-wide was lacking.  I don't think this is going to change much.  I don't think IDP is growing, I think it's probably shrinking in popularity.  With DFS, I assume people don't bother.  Which is frustrating, but is also an opportunity.  IDP is the kind of league where you can outwork your opponents. DFS and regular redraft leagues, there's plenty out there, and everyone's reading the same stuff.  Consider this:  The FBG IDP Twitter list has LESS THAN 60 subscribers.  Sigmund Bloom has 70,000.

Resources (I may put this in first post):

Twitter--Don't use Twitter much?  Well, Mr. Generation X, put down the hackey sack and get with the program.  Just searching for a player on Twitter is very helpful.

https://twitter.com/massraider/lists/idp  Twitter list I made for IDP.  It combines the best from the FBG and other fantasy sites.  I am scrolling this timeline more than the Shark Pool now.  It is unusual for me to NOT find something on this timeline that is very helpful every day.

NFL Game Pass Can replay every game, regular and condensed, meaning you can watch a whole game in 30 minutes.  You can also search a player, and see any play he was involved in.  It's a hundred bucks, if you play for decent money, it's necessary.

Gamebooks Seem to have the snap counts quickest, but not as user friendly as FBG.  With FBG you can adjust the data to make it more helpful.

SportsSpyder  Someone in the Shark Pool listed it as a resource once, and I feel like it's my own little secret. It collects link for articles written about every team, and includes all the Bleacher Report and all those amateur writing sites, FanSided, and that type stuff.  Going to individual players will search their names and it's the best site to see what everyone is saying about players.  Bear in mind, a lot of these writers are just fans, so grain of salt and all that.

NYJ/BUF--So if you look at the Jets box scores, the first four names listed are Davis/Lee/Maye/Adams.  If you asked me to list the Jets top tacklers this season, these are the names I'd give you.  No major surprises, right?  With Richardson gone, we can count on Leo Williams and Mo Wilkerson to play a ton all year which they did.   In CB-required leagues, Skrine and Claiborne didn't do much, but once the Jets play a team with a better offense (soo, every other game this year?) they are going to be on the field a lot and get more tackles.  I am bullish on them as season long starters.

For the Bills, you have two notable snap counts.  Lorenzo Alexander at 43%, and Ramon Humber at 98% (Preston Brown at 100%, expected).  Ramon Humber, you remember him, IDP dawgs were sniffing around him for the Giants a year or so ago.  Humber was credited with 12 solos in a game where the Bills were on the field for only 58 plays.  WOW.  Micah Hyde was the SS we were expecting, and at CB Tredavious White was the only one who played 100%.  Doesn't he return kicks occasionally?  White might be a nice add moving forward.

ATL/BUF-- I may have rushed past that last game, cause there's a lot to talk about in this one.  ATL LB snap counts:  D. Jones 100%.  Riley 73%. Campbell 70%.  What I want to see is how often the Bears were in 3+ wide sets.  I have a feeling it wasn't that often, considering the Bears have no wide receivers.  This is a game to rewatch, and see who played in the nickel.  If it was Riley, that's good news moving forward.  Grady Jarrett played 75% at DT.  Vic Beasley only played 45%, I've not seen anything about an injury.  Still had a sack, and looked great rushing the passer.

Danny Trevathan is back after a November knee tear-up, and played 71% of snaps.  Freeman was 95%.  I want to see how Trevathan looked when I rewatch.  Freeman had more stats.  I spent most of last year trying to figure out which Bears safety to own, and never found him.  The starters were Eddie Jackson and Quentin Demps.  Both played 100%.  I feel like Jackson is more the FS, but I cannot say for sure.  One more reason to rewatch this one.  Bears have a pretty solid defense overall, I dunno if anyone aside from Freeman is going to be an every week stud.

BAL/CIN--This is one of those games where I think, ''It's only one week''.  Are the Ravens this good, the Bengals this bad?  Two teams I don't have a strong opinion of yet.  Big news was Nick Vigil at 98%.  Hopefully you stashed him last year.  9 tackles and a pick.  Rey with 77%, and Minter with 58%.  Once Burfict returns, hopefully it'll be Minter and Rey that feel it, and not Vigil.  CIN LB stats were inflated by the Ravens running all day.  Shawn Williams was out at SS, so some guy called Fejedelem started.  For the sake of my keyboard, I hope this guy doesn't become a thing.  Without Burfict and Williams, and in a blowout, tough to make any confident guesses.  But looking good for our Vigil vigil ( :excited: ).

EDIT:  Crap, I forgot my BAL thoughts.

If you have Kamalei Correa, it's a little disappointing.  Only played 44%.  Mosley played his 100%, an it seems like Onwasaur and Correa were plantooning.  Will do some digging.  With Jefferson, Weddle, and Mosley, might not be much gold in them thar hills.  Ravens also have a ton of edge guys that are all interesting, but who knows how it'll shake out.  Z'Darius Smith, Tyus Bowser, Matt Judon, Terrel Suggs, they all playing.  That's some solid edge guys there.

Add more games later, I wonder if this isn't better way to do it, few games at a time.

PIT/CLE--Regarding PIT, the Vince Williams investment last year paid off, as he was a 3 down guy (83%).  Steelers have 4 3 down LBs, even if two of them are edge guys (Chickillo and Watt).  Shazier was 100%, so maybe Williams comes out in dime looks?  No matter, he's the Timmons replacement, and worth the roster spot.  Like to hear anyone's opinion of him who watched.  I haven't seen much PIT football, for some reason.  Sean Davis and Mike Mitchell are your safeties, but I dunno as to where they are used.  Mitchell listed as a FS, but is that the case in games?  PIT fans, let us know please.  Haden and Burns are your CBs, I read somewhere that Haden got worked pretty good in game 1.  I was interested in Javon Hargrave as a DT after that play, but only played 38%.  Injured?  TJ Watt clearly the story here right?  94% of snaps right off the bat, and had two sacks and a pick.  I pretty much ignore 3-4 edge guys as fantasy LBs, and I wonder how many owners started him.  None of his big plays were flukes either.  Great debut.

Dang, Joe Schobert? Was pretty easy for me to just glance at CLE defense this summer, and plug in Kirksey and Collins as 3 down LBs, and figure Schobert was the hard-working lunchpail two-down (white) MLB.  I paid almost no attention to him.  Whiff.......Anyway, the Browns appear to have three 3 down LBs.  Jabril Peppers is the FS, Taylor and McCourty are the CBs, and Derrick Kindred appears to be the SS.  I spent the better part of past year searching in vain for the CLE SS (I. Campbell/Poyer/Kindred), I'm not interested this year.  Mainly because this CLE defense looks pretty solid to me.  Ogbah and Garrett on the edge (If you watched Garrett this summer at all, you def think he's for real), Shelton in the middle, 3 good LBs, there's a lot of good pieces there.  Owners of those LBs though........you have to be a little concerned about them cannibalizing tackles right?  Also, a quick mention of DT  Larry Ogonjobi, who played all of 17 plays, and had two solos and two assists.  He had a rep as a running game wrecking ball in college.  Very nice debut.

DET/AZ--AZ has some back 7 questions we need to answer.  They are using three safeties now (Honey Badger/Bethea/Branch all over 80%), and had Dansby playing 96%, and Hasson Reddick (58%) and Josh Bynes (42%) at the other LB spot.  That was week 1.  What happens when Deone returns?  How long will Deone last when he returns? Also, Budda Baker only had 2 snaps on defense, that surprises a little bit.  Love to hear how Reddick looked from anyone that watched this game.  Jones and Golden were both the 90%+ edge guys as expected.  This might be a defense of good players that sees a lot of time on the field, with the AZ offense facing some serious questions.  It's tough to recommend grabbing Bethea or Branch, as it seems like they might take turns having good games, and there are three LBs that could factor in, fantasy-wise.

DET has some clarity, it's mostly a matter of injury.  Jarrad Davis is a 100% guy right off the bat, and Tahir Whitehead played 68% coming back from injury, which is nice.  Tavon Wilson is definitely the SS, and Miles Killebrew is still definitely a thing (39%).  Nickel LB snaps for Killebrew?  Stealing snaps from my sleeper Reeves-Maybin (special teams ONLY for JRM)? Seems so.  Killebrew has been a sexy pick for that next Jatavius Brown we all looking for, but I don't see it.  He plays as a dime LB right now, but if he can't take over as a SS or OLB, he can't start for fantasy teams.  Or maybe I'm just a bitter Reeves-Maybin owner.  You decide.  Right now, it seems like Davis, Whitehead, Wilson are your tackle leaders this season, maybe in that order?  Ziggy Ansah played 45%, and I didn't hear about his leg falling off or anything, so that's just lovely.  The entire DET D-line was a rotation, with no one getting a vast majority of snaps.  If there was one DT to keep an eye on, it'd be A'Shawn, I think.

JAX/HOU--Some eye-popping stuff here. Overreaction Alert:  How does Myles Jack go from 'lost and unable to regularly see the field' to 'three-down tackle monster' in one offseason?  Well, that was a big game.  Paul Posluzny had 8 defensive snaps (10%).  Ouch. Is Poz droppable? Calais Campbell had 4 freaking sacks? Geez. He was at 80%, and Malik was at 73%. Last year's sleeper, Yannick Ngakoue was at 75%, and had two sacks. Dante Fowler had a fumble return TD, but played 44%. Ngakoue is my dawg. AJ Bouye had a nice day at CB, and I LOVED the idea of getting the CB opposite of Jalen Ramsey this offseason.  If you are the type of CB owner to set it and forget it, Bouye will probably have a decent floor all year long.  Jax has talent everywhere, I just want to see them play well vs a team that isn't a flaming turd burning itself out in a dumpster fire.  Texans are in some trouble.  Whoever told this coach he was some QB whisperer was playing a cruel joke.

HOU had no players with 100% of snaps, and only one player (McKinney) over 90%. What does that mean? No idea. McKinney was the leading tackler, then the next 4 were DBs and a NT. Weird week. Zach Cunningham was at 44% in his debut. The safeties were as follows: Hal: 81%--Moore 69%--Gilchrist 34%--Pleasant 22%--Drummond 8%.  Whole thing screams STAY AWAY as far as I'm concerned.  Anyone has strong feelings on these DBs, let me know, I am here to be convinced.  I have McKinney in a league or two, but am a bit nervous his 3-down role could be in jeopardy. So far so good. Could Cunningham be a threat? Cushing is broken, and playing out the string right now.

TEN/OAK--Cory James, 2016 Snap Count Thread Hall of Famer (ha), was the only 3 down LB for OAK.  Tyrell Adams, a rookie UDFA, was the nickel specialist, spelling Marquel Lee.  At this moment, James sees like the only one to own. Adams had the tackles week 1, but he's not playing on first down. James played the most, and has looked improved, going back to the preseason. Elsewhere, the most interesting snap count note was rookie DT Eddie Vanderdoes 58% playing more than any other Raider D-lineman, and had quite a debut. Woth a spot on your DT watch list, no doubt.  Karl Joseph led team in tackles, and is a stud in training. Carrie/Sean Smith at CB isn't settled, and I wouldn't roster either one.  Mario Edwards was back at DE, and was quiet. Glad to see he's back though.

Titans were much more interesting on snap counts. The Raiders played a lot more 3 WR sets than I expected, and the Titans were in nickel a lot. Consider this: The top Titans LBs in terms of snap percentage were behind SEVEN other players on the team (and equal to one more, Jurrell Casey).  Woodyard-76% Williamson 65% J. Brown 56%.  We know what Woodyard is, and it's not special.  Jayon Brown in deep dynasty leagues should be rostered, IMO.  56% of snaps as a mid round rook is outstanding, and passing downs to boot. I know he's not big, but he looks big enough to me.  At safety, Byard was the FS, and Cyprien was the SS.  However: Cyprien got injured, and Byard played all over the place. D. Searcy will take over at SS.  Byard is a playmaker, and might be the rare FS worth owning in fantasy.  I dunno, he might be a better NFL player than fantasy player as well.  He's going to make some big plays this year, his talent is noticeable on the field.

Regarding CLE LB's - Collins is a pretty good pass rusher.  He probably becomes more of a Vic Beasley type 3 down SAM (except he's much stouter against the run) and that's the 3x3 down LB plan for CLE.  Schobert holds up in coverage pretty well and is a solid occasional blitzer so he should play 3 downs as well.

PHI/WAS--Foster and Brown are your 3 down LB, and Will Compton :-)sadtrombone:) is no longer a thing.  DJ Swearinger and Everett are the safeties, I assume Swearinger is preferred, but that's an assumption. Swearinger is on my watch list, for sure.  Mainly because I could see WAS offense falling off, and the defense getting a lot more action. Just one guy thinking out loud here.

Philly was more of the same as last year. Jenkins and McLeod are the S, Bradham/Hicks the 3 down LB, Kendricks in purgatory, Graham and Cox the guys to own up front. Derek Barnett got some run (41%) for a rookie.  Graham was 68%, Curry 59%, Long 41%, so beware this DE rotation, there might be a cap on the tackle opportunities.  Nice looking group of D-linemen they have there.

Umm, otherwise, I ain't got much on these two teams.

LAR/IND--The exciting question that has vexxed IDPers all summer long:  Which IND linebacker to own?? got a little bit of clarity this week.  I guess.  Bostic 100%, Morrison 88%, the rookie Walker with only ST snaps.  This is a situation to keep an eye on, and check the evaluations of their games.  Matthias Farley with a nice debut: 71%, and 10 total tackles.  Darius Butler was at 83%, and Hooker with only 46%, which surprised me.  TJ Green was 95%, and is a S playing CB.  Not good.  IND CBs are worth owning, Melvin had 6 total tackles.  Basically, aside from Luck and a WR or two, IND is a terrible team, and their defense is gonna get a lot of work until he returns.

None of the Rams defenders did much, because they were playing a high school offense, and never saw the field.  Ogletree and Barron still the LBs, I'd like to know how the team was using Joyner and Alexander at S, because I believe there's value there.  I assume Alexander was in the box more, but Joyner had the stats.  Rams had screwy snap counts, I assume they were using scrubs by the 3rd Q.  Colts suck.

Yeah, I assume Collins rushes on 3rd down, but I know he doesn't have to, he's good enough to use in coverage. It'll be interesting to see how they rush the passer when Garrett returns.  Will Ogbah slide inside, leave the field, will they use all three as pass rushers?

Great great stuff guys.  Just picked up AJ Klein and dropped Anzalone.  I was so excited for Anzalone but he looked terrible Monday night.  He needs to learn how to tackle instead of trying to blow everyone up.  I was surprised how fast Klein is as he chased down Cook twice in that game.  Didn't realize he's only 26, thought he was more in the 30 year old veteran range.

From this article, I also picked up Farley from the Colts.  Great tip guys!!!  That D should be on the field a ton!  I dropped Justin Simmons for him, was a little disappointed as there was rumor that he was going to get the TJ Ward role but someone on this chat board said that wasn't going to be the case and that guy was right.

So glad to have found a forum that loves IDP as much as I do.  This is my 13 year of playing IDP and I absolutely love it.  When I watch a game, I mostly watch the Defense to find the next stud in the making like Rocky McIntosh, Vontaze Burfict, or Jatavius Brown.

SEA/GB--If you play matchups in choosing starters, you need to consider pass rushers vs. SEA, whose O-line may have gotten worse this year.   Blake Martinez has won the 3 down job, and Jake Ryan is no longer a thing, it appears.  Martinez was the 2nd highest PFF graded Packer, FYI.  The Pack played 3 safeties all game:  Ha-Ha, rookie Kentrell Brice, and Morgan Burnett.  If you're wondering who the other nickel LB was, Burnett is your answer.  Kenny Clark played 76% at DT, a nice percentage.  Mike Daniels at 78%, and had a big game. House, Randall and Rollins all played a ton as well at CB.  Lot of DBs played for GB.

Shaq Griffin is the starter at CB opposite Sherman, always an interesting spot for CB-required leagues.  Seattle LBs are unchanged: Wagner and Wright.  The D-line snaps:  Bennett 80%, Avril 72%, Clark 55% (coming off injury), Richardson 66%, Reed 59%.  Richardson had 4 tackles in his debut.  I'm an impatient Clark owner, need his snaps to rise, but I dunno if it'll happen.  He's still gonna get 10 sacks, but tackle numbers?  Eh.....

CAR/SF--If Jaquiski Tartt becomes an IDP superstar this season, after I held him all last year, I might take a flamethrower to something.  Most reading I did had Eric Reid as the IDP stud S for SF.  Both played 100%, but Tartt had the bigger day. Worth seeing where they lined up.  EDIT:  Having watched the Tartt action on Game Pass, Tartt was the deep safety most of the time. Reid owners, come in off the ledge.  Reuben Foster played 11 plays, and sprained an ankle. Not great.  He also looked like a stud all preseason, and in game 1 before he got hurt. He's just a natural alpha LB. Ray Ray Armstrong replaced him. Knock yourself out, I want no part of Ray Ray. Buckner played 79%, and was 2nd on team in tackles (as a DT). Monster.  Rashard Robinson is a CB I am liking, he's good enough to make plays, but I dunno if teams will avoid him.

Thomas Davis (AKA Dorian Gray) played 100%, and tied Keuchly for tackle lead. I know people that gave up on Davis three years ago.  What a great career.  At some point, he HAS to get old, I suppose. When we do the dynasty stash thread later this year, Shaq Thompson will be first on my list.  And if Luke gets another concussion, he is an immediate add.  Adams and Coleman are the S, but I am unclear who plays in the box more.  Anyone got any news here? Kawann Short and Star played 79%+ at DT for CAR, their stats will come, those are big percentages.

DAL/NYG--Jaylon Smith started at MLB, and had 63%. I'm really rooting for this guy, and he looked good, considering the injury, and the layoff. His college highlights are soo much fun, the big difference in watching play this week was his instincts weren't there. He took a second to process, whereas in college he was just BAM-going to the ball.  Had a forced fumble, after Lee held up the ballcarrier, and he flew in for the freebie shot.  Jeff Heath was the SS as expected, and the Dallas D-line snap counts are interesting: Lawrence 61% (seems low), Mayowa 51%, Taco Charlton 46%, Maliek Collins 89% (holy crap).  I'm gonna check Collins' availablilty in my leagues.

BJ Goodson, how YOU doin?? Ain't no surprise, but he had a nice, nice game.  Look him up on Game Pass.  Making the calls, fighting off blockers to make tackles, the Giants have a fantasy relevant LB for real.  Only other IDP note for NYG (aside from high snaps for JPP and Vernon) is Jonthan Casillas is the other LB, with 85%.  Maybe an emergency grab if decimated by injuries?

NO/MIN--Alex Anzalone got 74%, AJ Klein 100%, and those seem to be the LBs to own. I like both their chances. Anazlone looked pretty natural to me out there. Hoping to get some stats from him before he concusses himself out of the league.  8 solos for Klein, seems like a nice starter all season.  Marcus Williams has seemingly surpassed Vonn Bell at FS, I didn't see that coming.  Bell barely played, wow.  Lattimore is a CB starter, opposite Williams, with Breaux on the IR.  Sheldon Rankins with 89% at DT, verry nice.

For MIN, anyone know why Xavier Rhodes didn't play 100%?  Banged up?  More of the same for MIN, with Sendejo and Harrison Smith the S, Barr and Kendricks the LBs, and Hunter and Grifiin the DE.  Tom Johnson with 73% led the DTs.  I dunno if there's any surprises coming up for us with MIN, seems pretty set at most interesting spots.

SD/DEN-- For the Chargers, Ingram and Bosa are both every week starters for IDP, and are two studs. Jason Verrett returned from injury, and Jahleel Addae was the SS. Jatavius is the only LB right now it seems.  Pullard, Emanuel, and Toomer all had less than 50%. I don't have any idea who Pullard is.  Corey Liuget was a t70%, is DT eligible on MFL, and I think he'll get some clean up sacks when the studs force the QB up in the pocket.

TJ Ward was a surprise cut by the Broncos, and the S percentages look like this:  Simmons 100%, Stewart 80%, Parks 73%, Carter 20%.  Shaq Barrett replaced Shane Ray on the edge opposite Miller.  Todd Davis only 32%, what the heck??

Onwuasor and Correa split base 33% to 44% evenly and the safety Levine was the LB in obvious passing situations...all 3 are probably unownable because even if one wins the job, Levine snipes 3rd down, it's a Ramik Wilson, Daniel Sorenson situation all over again...

this week's targets, that may be available:

Nick Vigil

Matthias Farley

Ramon Humber

Daniel Sorensen

Joe Schobert

Jayon Brown

Cory James

Alex Anzalone

I play in deep leagues, so guys like Goodson and Vigil and Schobert are rostered, bear this in mind. In shallow leagues, guys like Martinez and Reid from SF may be available.

Really like Humber, even with the Jenkins signing.  And yes Jayon Brown could be a real nice sleeper.

Add Dylan Cole to those targets too. Was super impressive in preseason, much more so than Cunninham.
Damn... my league doesn't even have Cole available... FBG snap counts doesn't even list him as registering snaps.  PFR shows him though - 14% of defensive snaps, 77% of special teams.. so that explains it.  This article says he's starting...  There's also mention of Brian Peters coming up to serve as back up to Cole and Cunningham.  Good catch!

Mitchell plays Free, Davis plays Strong.  Davis also sometimes lines up as the slot CB in subs and is blitzed from that spot more than the other players they'll put there.  He was also used as a Nickel LB, albeit very infrequently, in '16.  Was probably when Shazier was hurt, now that I think on it.

Williams gets taken out in obvious passing subs.

That article states...

Cole played in Cushing's place when the veteran linebacker left the game during Houston's Week 1 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

What?  Snaps...

  • ILB McKinney 59
  • OLB Mercilus 58
  • OLB Clowney 53
  • ILB Cushing 32
  • ILB Cunningham 28 (60 added with Cushing)
  • LB Cole 9

my guess? mckinney slid over to cushing's spot and cunningham took mckinney's side. cunningham had been backing up mckinney, from what i have been able to find.

Good thought.

I could see McKinney not wanting to slide over, and Cole being more ready at the Mike-ILB then Cunningham and thus having the "play call" more ready today.

Dylan Cole, eh. That's some deep digging. Lmao. Added! Straight to my TS to promote Killebrew.... my starting safeties are Berry and Cyprien.      *.*

Brown is a speculative add, it should be said.
I should have added the stipulation that my comment was based more in dynasty.

Gosh, I think this is the first year in a long time I have no IDP redrafts. :(

JAX/HOU--Some eye-popping stuff here. Overreaction Alert:  How does Myles Jack go from 'lost and unable to regularly see the field' to 'three-down tackle monster' in one offseason?  Well, that was a big game.
He was always a dynamo of a player. Huge ceiling. A textbook "unguided missile".

I dunno about that.  He gave up both TDs and got burned by AB a ton.

The coverage on the TE was 'ok' but obviously in-effective and the zone coverage on Antonio Brown was soft.  I'm not sure how to grade his coverage skills at this point.

Not going to criticize anyone for having issues vs. AB.  I think the 2nd TD for James was just great scheme design.  He was definitely late on the first one, but the window was still very tight.

2 things -

1. Though there probably is a package or two that Vince Williams isn't a part of, I wouldn't necessarily say he sits on obvious passing Downs, he's not Ramik Wilson. He played 55/66 downs 83%.

2. I was watching the Texans game, when Cushing got hurt, Cole immediately replaced him and finished out the series. On the next series Cunningham replaced Cole and it stayed that way the rest of the game.

Cushing is likely done, 10 game suspension handed out.

I said pretty well, not all-pro level ;)

No LB is gonna cover AB.  Ever.

Just watched the TD's, on the first Schobert was in pretty good position and got a hand in there, Ben just put it in the perfect spot.  Those TD's are gonna happen sometimes in the NFL.  The 2nd was a TE screen with 3 OL in front of it from the 1.  A herd of hippos couldn't stop that one.

I never implied that you said he had All Pro coverage skills.

I was at the game and noted he made some plays early and then gave up the TD so I focused in on his coverage skills.

After seeing the game I am not sure how to grade his coverage skills.

Incomplete.  He's gotten his mits on a few balls including preseason, the one Sunday just happened to end up in the hands of a Squeeler.  Need a larger sample before making any conclusions - to this point there's been some good, some bad, and optimism that the bad can be corrected.
