Thoughts on Howard Stern (1 Viewer)

I think you either like him or not. He invites strippers, prostitutes and porn stars on his show.
He doesn't do that anymore.  He hired a woman who is now controlling his life and even kicked bababooey out of his office and since then his show has been very politically correct.  For example Gary the ####### is now called Gary the Conqueror.

That said, he is probably one of the best interviewers in the world.

He is interesting to listen too but can be a blowhard at times.  Any time a caller doesn't agree with him or calls him out on something he raises his voice and talks over the person and hangs up on them.

I don't think Artie adds anything to the show from what I seen on youtube. Artie is a loud mouth fat guy who isn't really funny.

You had all these women trying to get into Playboy. Now women are trying to become famous on instagram.

What year do you think it is?

If someone like Stern I immediately know I won't click with them. Kinda like WWE wrestling, Duck Dynasty viewers and Trump supporters. Just no way.

What do you mean he kicked Gary out?

He has great awareness of what makes great radio and the ability to orchestrate the show to that without always being the center of attention.

Used to listen to him and enjoyed it, but don't feel like paying for Sirius when there are great podcast options out there.

Good take, Time Traveling Man

Does Howard remind you of Anthony Bourdain? Both are NYC guys and have interesting personality. Bourdain seems like he would be a good radio show host.

I feel like Howard has bounced back a little bit from the height of the Marci Turk (the woman they brought in to basically run the show) criticism. He's certainly more mainstream than he was years ago but they've moved back a bit in that direction. I don't need to see them play Lord of the Anal Ring Toss and have porn stars ride the sybian but I couldn't deal with it when he was bringing in celebrities that he audience couldn't care less about (Sarah Jessica Parker, for example) and spending an hour kissing their ### in a totally PC interview.

There are things that he does that sort of drive me nuts (acting like everyone who cares about sports is stupid when he spends his days painting and cleaning 15 litter boxes) but I'm guessing a lot of it is schtick.

He's definitely a crusty old man now but the way everyone on the show has become a character still definitely entertains me.

heres the thing with Stern.....he became a star because he was an every man....he was married to an average looking chick who gave him crap all the time...he had annoying kids and was dying to bang hot chicks but couldnt...hated all the celebs living it up....he complained all the time and was miserable....he was one of us and was hystercal

then he got divorced....bagged a model wife...became Hamptons Howie and made friends with all those he hated...he became the thing that he made fun of all the time....it's just not the same...

that being said he's still better than 90% of the crap thats on the radio so i still listen....but man there were some great shows back in the 90s....

Unplug your computer. Take it outside. Throw it in the air as high as you can, and let it land on your big, dopey head. Then walk into the nearest ocean, sea, or even a deep lake, go to the bottom, and stay there.

Listened almost every day until he went to satellite radio.

If he was still on terrestrial and I was working a 9-5 driving job I would listen every day. But like everyone he got old and out of touch.

I still listen every day or catch replays. I've been a fan since he came to NBC in the early 80's No one has provided more entertainment for me in my lifetime. Yes, his show has evolved and it's not as LOL funny as it once was but I still find it to be great radio and will miss it when he retires.

Stern was funny and I used to listen daily in the 90s and early 2000s.  The show seemed to go downhill when he became too rich and famous and I got bored with the same old schtick.

Really?   PC Howard sounds terrible

Stern was appointment listening for me in the '80s and '90s. I used to leave a tape recorder running when I left for school (junior high/high school) just so I could hear more of the show. This was pre-internet days of course.

The WOR show was awesome and I still have every episode on tape. I went to see Private Parts multiple times in the theaters.

The last few years of his run on FM, though, I really started losing interest. I know people loved Artie but for me the show lost a lot of spark after Jackie left. Howard seemed to spend more time complaining about his contract than actually trying to be funny. When he jumped to Sirius I didn't bother following. I've had satellite for a few years and I can't even be bothered to check him out. I guess for me he's like an old high school buddy that was a lot of fun to hang out with back in the day, but I've just sort of moved on.

I recently got a SIRI receiver at the Goodwill that has the lifetime subsscription on it....so I've listened to Stern for the first time since he went off of terrestrial*.......I have to say...... he still seems to be (at least) firing on that same level. He's an excellent interviewer...he still does the self deprecating humor pretty well and the Wack Pack still seems funny.

* I'm one who never minded the restrictions of the terrestrial show as I thought they made him more creative.

That sucks that he got tamer. He's on Sirius and can curse freely, right?

I still like Kidd Chris (his buddy doing mornings in Cincy) but he's gotten tame too (along with too political).

Yes.  The better part is when he interview famous people and they curse freely as well.  It's great hearing people like Charleze Theron and Joe Buck use the F word a lot.
