$2.5 million NFL survivor pool busted by the Feds (1 Viewer)

Feel much safer now than when I woke up this morning. Thanks to the US Govt for protecting us from the evils the world presents.

Good thing there aren't any government sponsored games of chance.  As a society we'd come apart at the seams and descend into chaos.

Gambling is a drain on our society!

Unless it happens in the State of Nevada, NJ, on an Indian Reservation, or other place we have deemed this to be OK.

I posted about this one a while ago;

The shutdown is the biggest pool bust since 2010, when prosecutors in New Jersey arrested a school teacher named John Bovery for running a $100 per entry survivor pool that had roughly 8,000 entries and charged him with promoting gambling and money laundering. After 5½ years, the case still had not gone to trial, so Bovery was put into the pretrial intervention program.

The state still has the $846,000 it seized from Bovery's bank accounts, $123,000 of which he maintains were his life savings unrelated to the pool.

And CERTAINLY not online! If you're going to gamble your money away, you're going to do it while physically stepping into a casino like a good American!

Disappointed in the details. 100 / 200 per survivor entry? I was expecting more high stakes stuff.

Not sure I get the allure of playing in a survivor pool with 10,000 entrants. Aren't you almost guaranteed a split pot with that many folks?

I was in a $1000 a square SB pool for years and the Feds shut it down two years ago.  It was 100% pay too so the guy running it didn't make a dime. So dumb.

Have to pick 2 teams in weeks 11-15 and 3 teams in 16 and 17.  Therefore, you need to pick 26 out of 32 NFL teams.  And they all have to win.  Not easy to do.  Usually didn't make it to week 17 (so I've heard.)

Yeah that makes it a lot tougher. Also I imagine there's a lot of coin flipping in week 16 and 17.

Just seems to me that the sweet spot for a survivor pool would be in the 150 - 500 member range. Anything more than that would seem to bring in the luck factor. JMHO.

With the article headline, I was expecting 4 and 5 figure buy in.

Well, by week 17 you can toss the Browns out as an option, so you do reduce your odds of losing.
