WR Christian Kirk, JAX (2 Viewers)

Texas A&M junior WR Christian Kirk will forego his final season of eligibility to enter the 2018 NFL Draft.

Kirk (5'11/200) finished up his Aggies career with a bang, catching 13 passes for 189 yards and three touchdowns in a Belk Bowl loss to Wake Forest at the end of December. He ended the campaign the owner of a 71-919-10 receiving line and also turned in touchdowns as both a punt and kick returner. While Kirk's numbers were relatively modest this year, that can be pinned on Texas A&M playing most of the season with raw dual-threat QB Kellen Mond. As a draft prospect, NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah comps Kirk to Lions WR Golden Tate. Make that Tate "maybe with a little bit of a turbo jet strapped to his back." DJ's colleague, Bucky Brooks, sees some Julian Edelman in the junior's game. A Day 1 selection is not outside the realm of possibility for Kirk.

Christian Kirk, WR, Texas A&M

Rank: #29

Kirk is a compact, muscled-up WR. He's built like a running back and plays in the slot as well as outside. He's an exceptional route runner. He understands how to leverage defensive backs, sell double-moves and cleanly enter/exit the break point. He has strong hands and tracks the ball smoothly. He does a lot of work in the middle of the field and doesn't let the heavy traffic affect his concentration. I love his strength, elusiveness and will after the catch. Kirk reminds me a lot of Golden Tate coming out of Notre Dame, and I believe he can have similar success.

Interested to see how fast he runs. His highlights it seems he’s faster than everybody he played and scored a lot of Long tds where no one was within 10 yds of him by te time he scored.

Ran a 4.49 coming out of high school.

Pro Player Comparisons for College Football's Top 25 Stars

Excerpt:

Christian Kirk, WR, Texas A&M

Pro comparison: Jarvis Landry, Miami Dolphins

While Texas A&M's offense as a whole fizzled out down the stretch in 2015, Christian Kirk seemed to just get stronger. His freshman season provides a heck of a baseline, and if that's just the start, then he's unlikely to remain in college beyond 2017.

The same couldn't be said for Landry during his time at LSU. He was only lightly used as a freshman in 2011, not breaking through until the following season and then continuing his rise all the way to being a second-round draft pick in 2013. The climb has continued in the pros, with Landry catching 110 passes and ranking second in all-purpose yards last season.

Landry wasn't used much as a return man in college, but that's been a key part of his value with Miami. The 5'11", 200-pound Kirk handled most punts and kickoffs while also being A&M's No. 1 receiving target in his first year, and that figures to continue in 2016 and beyond.

I’ve noticed that comparisons seem to be routinely made to the optimistic side.
Right but he's either like this pro bowl receiver with 4.34 speed or that one with 4.51 pro day speed because he ran a 4.65 at the combine?  Those are the two closest comparisons,  the 5.9" 183 lb outside speed guy or the 5'11" 203 lb slot guy?

I've been watching some highlight videos on this kid this morning.  He's electric in the open field and seems to have strong game speed (not to mention, seems to get up to full speed right quick).  Given how well he does on returns and go routes it seems a bit odd but.....does anyone else see what looks like stiff hips?

On highlight plays where he ran actual routes (with cuts and double moves) to me he seems a bit stiff in the hips.  Has me wondering how well, outside of go routes and manufactured touches like screens, he'll be able to shake NFL-caliber defensive backs.

Walter Football's Charlie Campbell passes along that Texas A&M WR Christian Kirk has been excelling in interviews at the NFL Scouting Combine.

"Not only has Kirk been excellent in the team interviews, but his college coaching staff have raved about him to scouts and NFL coaches," Campbell writes. The Aggies wideout checked into the combine measuring 5-foot-10 3/8 inches, 201 pounds with a a respectable hand measurement of 9 7/8 inches, an arm length of 30 3/8 inches and a wingspan of 72 2/8 inches. Already rocking his interviews, he's a player who should test well in addition.

Texas A&M WR Christian Kirk ran the 40-yard dash in 4.47 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Kirk (5'10/201) has reportedly been interviewing well in Indianapolis, with Walter Football's Charlie Campbell noting that his old Texas A&M coaches have been "rav[ing]" about the wideout. Not too shabby on the 40-yard dash, either. Rotoworld's Thor Nystrom ranks Kirk as the No. 3 receiver in the class, narrowly trailing Courtland Sutton and Calvin Ridley in what's a tight top tier for the position.

Texas A&M WR Christian Kirk said that he has had a "private visit" with the Cardinals.

It's unclear from Kirk's verbiage whether this was an official visit -- NFL teams are allotted 30 official pre-draft visits -- or just an informal meeting. Regardless, the 5-foot-10, 201-pounder hails from Scottsdale and said that it would "definitely be surreal" if the Cardinals drafted him. A good kind of surreal, to be sure. Kirk ranks as the No. 3 wideout on the board of Rotoworld's Thor Nystrom, who sees the top three wideouts in the class (Courtland Sutton, Calvin Ridley, Kirk) as being exceedingly close to each other in his film study. Kirk reportedly interviewed very well at the NFL Scouting Combine earlier this month as he tries to surprise with a Day 1 selection. Our best guess would still have him landing on Day 2 when all is said and done.

Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports reports that Johnny Manziel will throw to Texas A&M WR Christian Kirk at his pro day on Tuesday.

All 32 NFL teams will be at the workout, according to Feldman. Kirk is considered one of -- and by some, the -- best wide receivers in this class, so this would be highly attended no matter who the quarterback throwing the football was. Add in the fact that Johnny Football will be slinging the rock, and, well, you get the idea. If Kirk tests well in College Station, he has a chance to solidify his late first-round, early-second round stock.

Texas A&M WR Christian Kirk said that he has private workouts scheduled with the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks, plus visits to the New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers.

Kirk (5'10/201) is taking part in pro day festivities in College Station on Tuesday as he continues on his merry way toward the NFL Draft. The wideout underwhelmed somewhat at the NFL Scouting Combine, posting a composite testing score in the 26th percentile of pro wideouts. Athletic tests are not the be-all, end-all of the draft, though they certainly help. We view the receiver as a likely selection for early on Day 2 next month.

How much do we drop Kirk in rookie rankings because of odds for playing slot?  I'm not one to enjoy posting too much on a player before I draft but I'm having some second thoughts about the actual value  It sorta appears to be a case of wait n see for his 3rd yr when I consider rookie usage, game plan, and not to mention which team drafts the man

One anonymous scout speaking with Bob McGinn Football said he prefers Texas A&M WR Christian Kirk over Calvin Ridley.

"He’s a winning-type player," the scout said. "Does something after the catch because he has a real strong build down low. He’s got really good quickness and can gain separation easily on the inside. I see him stepping in Day 1 as a No. 3 slot receiver and being that for the next six, seven years. I like Kirk over Ridley." The 5-foot-10, 201-pound Kirk posted a 234-2,856-26 line over three years in College Station with generally poor quarterback play. "He fits Tom Brady’s offense," another scout said. "He wants somebody that can get down 10, 12 yards quick and then be alert. He’s courageous and gets up the field." A third scout wasn't nearly as high on him: "He is a slot but he’s not special. He’s just not as dynamic as you had hoped. He’s really raw. Pretty good hands. I thought he’d be a little better after the catch."

NFL Media's Lance Zierlein compares Texas A&M WR Christian Kirk to New York Giants WR Sterling Shepherd.

Zierlein projects Kirk to go on Day 2, which is where most mocks/analysts have been projecting the 5-foot-10, 201-pound receiver to land at this point. He also notes that Kirk is "quicker than fast," and that he has a below-average catch radius. He also raves about his ability to compete for the football, and that he plays with "consistent tempo good suddenness."

Cardinals selected Texas A&M WR Christian Kirk with the No. 47 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft.

Kirk (5’10/201) started all three years before turning pro, logging a 229/2,796/12.2/26 career receiving line and earning first-team All-SEC in each of his final two years. Also a dynamic return specialist, Kirk averaged an otherworldly 22.0 yards per punt return with seven return TDs, six on punts and one on a kickoff. Albeit not a prolific athlete – he logged 27th-percentile SPARQ results in Indy with a surprisingly sluggish 7.09 three-cone time – Kirk is straight-line fast (4.45), runs crisp routes, and has sure hands. He’s a cross between Cooper Kupp and Nelson Agholor as a reliable slot playmaker.

Local kid. I heard him on the radio a few weeks back saying he was really hoping the Cards picked him in the 2nd.

Hopefully he will work out.
