Hawaiians get an incoming missile warning, claiming this is not a test.

It turns out it was a mistake, but they didn't receive a message telling them that for 38 minutes. They were earlier told that you have 20 minutes from time of message till time of impact.

If somebody has a link, kindly post it. I am hearing this on the radio. I heard an interview and a man was in his bathtub huddling with his children. I can't even imagine the chaos in Hawaii for a period of time.

So sorry for all the people in Hawaii who went through that — we know someone who’s there with her family. Crying in closet texting goodbyes to loved ones, husband shielding their baby. Sounds traumatic. Hang in there, folks.

Crazy. I can't imagine the panic. I wonder if anyone was hurt/killed/suicided because of it.

Glad this didn’t happen when I was there over Christmas.  Sucks for folks there having to deal with this awfulness.

The emergency alert in Hawaii of an incoming ballistic missile was issued in error—but it is so very much a sign of our times. Hawaii Governor David Ige tells CNN that someone "pushed the wrong button" during an employee shift change, sending out the false alert. #Hawaii

A few thoughts after seeing this in friends Facebook accounts (we have quite a few friends serving in Hawaii)

1. Scary as ####

2. We're not prepared

3. Hopefully this doesn't make everyone ignore real threats in the future

4. Just really thankful it wasn't actual and we didn't respond

Something like 300 drills before Pearl Harbor was attacked, and they were STILL surprised...

Pearl Harbor has to go down as one of the most consequential days in American history as it brought us directly into WWII but it also one of the most tragic.   That got me thinking that as a kid, when watching WWF there would be times when Gorilla Monsoon or Mean Gene would yell about a wrestler getting Pearl Harbored

Think about that term and how widely it was used then without any thought paid to it.   Now think about an announcer today saying a wrestler got 9-11’d or something and tell me how well that would go.  That announcer would be thrown out so quickly you’d never hear from him again...either that or we’d elect him president

They should move the “we’re going to die in a Nucleur war” button away from the “let somebody into the bathroom” button

Always good to make this a way to bash Trump when it looks like a state of Hawaii screw up.

It doesn't matter who screwed up, we should all be grateful he was on the golf course at the time.

Had I been in Hawaii, I would’ve calmly ordered the most expensive wine on the menu and enjoyed the sight and sounds of the ocean….

And then, when the bill came 40 minutes later and I was still alive, I would have been really ####### pissed off.

Hopefully the “push the wrong button” comment was an over simplification of the process.

This shouldn’t be like Amazon one click buying.

We used to be concerned that it would take too long to reach #POTUS in a crisis of this nature ... now maybe it is worrisome that #Trump would be notified too quickly. This President is a threat to #NationalSecurity

Question: In a hair-trigger world, HOW ON EARTH do you mess up a ballistic missile alert for an entire state?

Trump’s lack of diplomatic skills caused this to be a realistic situation.

And it is arguable that if Hillary had been elected the Hawaii missile alert system, discontinued after The Cold War ended, wouldn't have been reinstated - so there wouldn't have been a wrong button to push that caused this false alarm and panic.

It really isn't, or at least wasn't - though you could make the argument that the Presidents abysmal recent record regarding North Korea makes this sadly actually feasible at least, and therefor heightens the fear as it's not just out of left field (i.e. In large part due to the inflamed rhetoric between the US and NK, Hawaii did run tests of its sirens for the first time in decades a month or so ago.

WORSE yet, has our President actually come out and said ANYthing? If indeed he really was golfing during a near 40 min legit nuclear scare and never so much as got off the course to find out wtf was happening and to reassure the scared people of Hawaii, that's just awful leadership on all levels and totally fair to bring into the political discussion.
