nope not him. I think he had an irish like name and maybe wore a cap...? damn it, I can see the race so clearly in my head.
I looked him up and I think that may be him (the cap and era fits) but I don't see the race I am thinking of.
I thought of him too but not him. I am pretty sure the guy I was thinking of was American.
I just watched that and yes I think it is Wottle. McCay's call of "watch for the kick" really rings a bell.
If he wasn't wearing that stoopid wind-catching hat on his head he would have won that race easily.
I was doing my best to remember. :(
My mind flipped directly to Billy Mills, but I think you're right. (Though, IMO, Billy's sprint was unparalleled in his race.)
