CNN website is an anti-Trump hatefest (1 Viewer)

I’m well aware that many will hate this thread and mock me for it.  Don’t care.

A quick explanation of why I’m doing this thread.

For my entire internet life, cnn.com has been my number one source of news.  It’s just where I go to see what’s happening.

Over the years I’ve never had any issues with cnn.  At times some have accused them of doing things to increase ratings or of being melodramatic, but by and large they’be done a good job of keeping me informed on the big news of the day.

For whatever the reason, the online front page of cnn has become devoted to bashing Trump. I realize that there are many other good articles if you scroll down (which I often do).  But their agenda is crystal clear.  Even if you don’t support Trump, I’d imagine it’s getting old.

So I’m going to make a test.  Every time I open cnn, I’m going to post here what the “big news of the day is”.  Hopefully you’ll see the agenda and weep with me for the loss of a good news source.

2/9 - Ex-Seal rains on Trumps parade.

Yes that’s right, despite stock market issues and many other things going on in the world, cnn found one military individual’s opinion on a Trump, and has made that the top news of the day!

I think it's might be more accurate to say CNN is more focused on sensational click-bait articles, and that the click-bait at this time is often anti-Trump. I used to go to CNN for news pretty regularly until right about the time MH370 disappeared. Then, like 30 days after the plane disappeared, they were still running stories with headlines like "BREAKING NEWS: WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT THE DISAPPEARANCE TODAY" and then the article was like "actually... nothing new recently".

Certainly.  It’s likely that anti-Trump articles generate more revenue.  But it’s still sad to see a major news organization put that over the news of the day.

Of course, if they ran a story about the stock market issues, you'd probably see that as anti-Trump as well.

I'm fairly sure they are convinced there is absolutely nothing going on in the rest of the world...I'm watching One American News for my information..

Not sure what you’re talking about.
The President has proclaimed that CNN is Fake News. Since the President is a truthful person with high moral character, we must therefore conclude that nothing on the CNN website should be taken seriously.

When you allow yourself to be upset by what you see on CNN, you are disobeying the wishes of the President.

For the average Trump supporter, complaining about CNN should be like the equivalent of complaining about your great aunt's posts on Facebook. Nobody really reads that stuff or is influenced by it, because everyone who matters knows that it's all fake.

Hadn't heard of them and after looking it up I understand why:

An inside look at One America News, the insurgent TV network taking ‘pro-Trump’ to new heights

One America News is an obscure TV channel struggling to emerge from the cellar of the cable ratings, but it is nonetheless one of President Trump’s favorite media outlets. It’s not hard to see why: On One America newscasts, the Trump administration is a juggernaut of progress, a shining success with a daily drumbeat of achievements.

One America — a tiny father-and-sons operation that often delivers four times as many stories per hour as its competitors — promises “straight news, no opinion,” promoting itself as the antidote to the Big Three cable news networks’ focus on punditry and the one big story of the moment.

But since its inception in 2013, and especially since Trump began his march to the White House, One America’s owner, Robert Herring Sr., a millionaire who made his money printing circuit boards, has directed his channel to push Trump’s candidacy, scuttle stories about police shootings, encourage antiabortion stories, minimize coverage of Russian aggression, and steer away from the new president’s troubles, according to more than a dozen current and former producers, writers and anchors, as well as internal emails from Herring and his top news executives.

OAN, based in San Diego, made its first splash in the opening weeks of the Trump campaign, when the channel became the first to carry Trump’s campaign speeches live and in full — a decision followed quickly by the owner’s directive that other candidates’ rallies not be given the same treatment, according to internal emails.

Since then, OAN has become a reliably sympathetic voice of the administration’s goals and actions. Trump’s former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, has a deal to appear regularly on the channel. The network’s White House reporter, Trey Yingst, has become an administration favorite who was called on at the daily news briefings 27 times in Trump’s first 100 days in office. On Friday, OAN won a seat in the White House briefing room, albeit in the back row and shared with the BBC.

I’ll go with what I see.
My guess is that what you're looking at prioritizes the most read stories, so CNN has nothing to do with that.  If you go to the main CNN.com page the lead story (top left) is "Trump's frustration mounts over Hope Hicks."  The second story, top middle of the screen, is "Trump signs budget deal to end government shutdown."  The story you're referring to is listed atop a right-hand sidebar along with a bunch of other random stories, some of which have iffy news value and are clearly clickbait (for example a story about 6 teenagers running for KS governor).

Maybe the problem is that you've decided what you're going to discover about CNN and are looking for that instead of the objective truth? Which is ironic.

I don't watch or read CNN so I really don't know but I will say that I used to watch late night talk shows and SNL but don't anymore because of their overly political content.   While it is true that they always took jabs at the president it was usually restricted to a couple 1-liners in the monologue or a single skit.   Last year these shows just became unwatchable for me -- and most people that know me here know that I lean towards the left!

Now I understand the Trump administration makes an extraordinarily easy target but I just can't watch a talk show host drivel on for 10-15 minutes on whatever issue they're upset about or endure one political SNL skit after another.  I just don't find it very entertaining.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Trump coming to power is how it's managed to corrupt formerly reasonable individuals into believing some really odd stuff and moving towards conspiracy territory. I guess gaslighting really works.

Is there any good news right now? I see the top headline is that the stock market is tanking, and the stock market was the one good thing a Trump supporter could have possible pointed to as "good". So, now what's so good to write about Trump?

Was listening to Mike Gallagher a little while ago and he said was a great week for Trump.

I know it's not a popular opinion, and I hate Trump more than anyone, but I agree with the OP.  Yes, I realize that Trump has decades worth of negative content to report, but there is a complete lack of anything complimentary or, in most cases, even neutral on CNN.  Each story, even the most benign, has a negative spin.  The stories aren't written to attract the objectively minded.  They're written to attract the Trump hater.  I use CNN as a legitimate news source and trust that they're not spreading conspiracies like Fox News, but unfortunately they've become just as partisan because that's what's selling right now.

Can you give some specific examples?

On there right now:

Omarosa says she was 'haunted by tweets.'

- Who gives a flip, but it's negative Trump so it goes on the page.

Internet mocks Trump's military parade

- Again, who cares, but it's negative Trump, that'll get some readers.

you forgot to highlight this part...that often delivers four times as many stories per hour as its competitors —

I think this is kind of a neat idea. We'll see.

I'll tell you what kind of drives me crazy about CNN (aside from some hosts like Cuomo and Jones who to me seem over the top partisan, which is not helpful) is that their Trump proxies, except for maybe Jason Miller, like Jack Kingston are just so completely ridiculous. So whoever it is they become a punching bag. The Trump POV is terribly represented.

But the problem, with the Bolded, is Trump's administration. It is an unimaginable #### show every single week.

  • This week: Rob Porter, followed by the 2nd government shutdown.
  • Last week: the Trump Defense Memo.
  • 2 weeks ago: Trump fired Mueller but got faced down in his own office.
  • 3 weeks ago: The first government shutdown and the president completely mucked up negotiations by constantly sending out the wrong signals.
  • 4 weeks ago: he calls key foreign nations "####holes", and it turns out he paid off a porn star and then his lawyer constantly lied about it and covered it up.
  • 5 weeks ago: the revelations of "Fire and Fury" & Bannons betray Trump and Trump makes Bannon a non-person in the movement he built.
  • 6 weeks ago: it was freaking New Years.
Seriously, if you're the guy writing headlines at CNN put yourself in his shoes. What the hell are you writing that makes shinola out of that?

Thanks for the response. I would argue they're trying to reach different demographics. Neither are big news, but both stories might appeal to a very different market than the typical stories. It's more tabloid than news, so I understand the criticism but I suspect they would use these methods for anyone. It's just the new market.

Eh can we get a benchmark for what will qualify?

The banner I see at the top right now (1240 CT) is "TRUMP SAYS HE WAS SURPRISED BY THE ROB PORTER ABUSE ALLEGATIONS."

Below that there are three top stories, but they are lined up all together:

have you actually watched it?..There are things going on in other countries that CNN is not even aware of..
Ive seen their site and a few minutes of their crap.

They are basically pro trump propaganda.

And to claim CNN doesn’t know there are things going in around the world is a false assertion as well.

This isn’t some defense of CNN either.  They have their own bias and issues...though not close to as biased as OAN

This seems so familiar.  I wonder if there are any other news agencies with an agenda...hmmmm
