Predicting the 1st round of the 2018 NFL Draft (1 Viewer)

I've been doing some math in my head, and trying to get a good vibe for what's going to happen in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, and I came up with what I predict from picks #1-#32:

1. Browns pick Wyoming QB Josh Allen

2. Giants pick Penn State RB Saquon Barkley

3. Jets (via trade with Colts) pick USC QB Sam Darnold

4. Browns pick N.C. State DE Bradley Chubb

5. Broncos pick Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield

6. Colts (via trade with Jets) pick Georgia LB Roquan Smith

7. Buccaneers pick Alabama DB Minkah Fitzpatrick

8. Bears pick Notre Dame OG Quenton Nelson

9. Bills (via trade with 49ers) pick UCLA QB Josh Rosen

10. Raiders pick UTSA DE Marcus Davenport

11. Dolphins pick Washington DT Vitea Vea

12. 49ers (via trade with Bills) pick Virginia Tech LB Tremaine Edmunds

13. Redskins pick Ohio State CB Denzel Ward

14. Packers pick Central Florida CB Mike Hughes

15. Cardinals pick Notre Dame OT MIke McGlinchey

16. Ravens pick Louisville QB Lamar Jackson

17. Chargers pick Florida State S Derwin James

18. Seahawks pick Iowa CB Josh Jackson

19. Cowboys pick Alabama WR Calvin Ridley

20. Lions pick Alabama DT Da'Ron Payne

21. Bengals pick Boston College DE Harold Landry

22. Bills pick Iowa C/OG James Daniels

23. Patriots (via trade with Rams) pick UCLA OT Kolton MIller

24. Panthers pick UTEP OG Will Hernandez

25. Titans pick Alabama LB Rashaan Evans

26. Falcons pick Florida OT Taven Bryan

27. Saints pick Louisville CB Jaire Alexander

28. Steelers pick Boise State LB Leighton Vander Esch

29. Jaguars pick SMU WR Courtland Sutton

30. Vikings pick Texas OT Connor Williams

31. Patriots pick South Dakota State TE Dallas Goedert

32. Eagles pick LSU RB Derrius Guice

I'm having a tough timing seeing the Giants passing on Darnold at #2 if he's there, but we're in the season of misinformation so Barkley is definitely in play there.

I did some math in my head and came up with a different answer . . . :lmao:  . . . though I do feel your first four are reasonably probable . . .

The Browns taking Allen would be such a Browns thing to do.  He's not that great.  He's not a first round draft pick let alone the first overall.

I think the Falcons would use Bryan more as a DT

While not out of the realm of need, I don't see the Raiders picking up Davenport, who is super solid but still not clearly a dominant player (as opposed to flashing occasionally) over other available guys who are likely instant starters (and perhaps potential pro bowlers, at least per prospect grades) like Edmunds and Smith at LB or James or Ward in the backfield.

  1. Browns pick USC QB Sam Darnold
  2. Broncos (via trade with NYGs) pick UCLA QB Josh Rosen
  3. Jets (via trade with Colts) pick Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield
  4.  Bills (via trade with CLE) pick Wyoming QB Josh Allen
  5. Giants (via trade with DEN) pick Penn State RB Saquon Barkley
  6. Colts (via trade with Jets) pick N.C. State DE Bradley Chubb
  7. Buccaneers pick Alabama DB Minkah Fitzpatrick
  8. Bears pick Notre Dame OG Quenton Nelson
  9. 49ers pick Georgia LB Roquan Smith
  10.  Raiders pick Virginia Tech LB Tremaine Edmunds
  11. Dolphins pick Washington DT Vitea Vea
  12. Browns pick (via trade with Bills) pick Ohio State CB Denzel Ward

  14.  Patriots (via trade with Packers) Louisville QB Lamar Jackson
  15.  Cardinals pick Florida State S Derwin James
  16. Ravens pick Alabama WR Calvin Ridley
  17.  Chargers pick Notre Dame OT MIke McGlinchey
  18. Seahawks pick Georgia OG Isaiah Wynn
  19.  Cowboys pick Maryland WR D.J. Moore
  20. Lions pick Boston College DE Harold Landry
  21. Bengals pick Arkansas C Frank Ragnow
  22.  Bills pick Iowa C/OG James Daniels
  23. .Packers (via trade with New England) pick Florida DT/DE Taven Bryan

  31. Packers (via trade with NE) pick Louisville CB Jaire Alexander
  32.  Eagles pick Iowa  CB Josh Jackson
I anticipate trades at the top for QBs and have a mid-round trade for a QB but I'm sure that a few late round deals will take place.

I think Elway likes Rosen and the Giants would move down for Saquon and Denver's 2nd this year and 1st next.

I think the Bills like Allen and would move-up for their 2nd this year and 1st  next.  I think Dorsey would pass up Chubb if he felt he could get Denzel plus extras.

I'm buying the Patriots interest in Lamar Jackson and think they would deal both 1st round picks to move-up and the Pack would move down.

About the only other pick that needs preemptive explaining is the Steelers taking Guice.  I think they are fed up with LeVeon and it manifests to the point they take a RB with their top pick.  Also, I really like Guice a lot and think he goes in the 1st round.

Best draft board I've seen yet.

In reality, I just can't see this many trades going down in the 1st round.

If you look, I only have 3 trades.

  1. Broncos with Giants
  2. Bills with Browns
  3. Patriots with Packers
Their have already been a few deals and when one team moves up the other moves down so it appears like more trades have taken place.

I believe the Bills or Cardinals could trade up with the Colts for a QB.

Got it.

I think a Giants trade with the Broncos makes total sense if they are cool with one of the 4 top tier QBs dropping to them.

That is, of course if Cleveland stays at 4 and selects Barkley.

It seems that everyone is discounting Cleveland moving frm the #4 pick but I think Dorsey would move down if he could get CB Denzel Ward.  The Browns got rid of their best CB and have no one who can match up against Antonio Brown or A.J. Green.

The Browns have already made a trade with Buffalo for QB Tyrod Taylor so John Dorsey has already established a good trade relationship and they 'may' have a trade in place should Allen fall to the #4 pick.

What about Barkley?  The Browns signed FA RB Carlos Hyde and have Duke Johnson forming a solid duo.

What about Chubb?  The Browns already have two 'pretty good' DEs in Myles Garrett and Emmanuel Ogbah.

I think Buffalo will move up but they really need to keep their 'other' first round pick and 'other' 2nd round pick to restock their offensive line so I don't think they can or want to move all the way up to #2 and they can't wait till pick #5 because the Giants might just take the 4th QB or some other team could snipe them.

Man, I liked 97% of that mock. I know Steelers always go BPA on their board, but I just can't picture them taking a RB in the first. In this scenario I think they'd take Rashaan Evans or Jaire Alexander.  Overall, an excellent mock that works in around the amount of trades I expect to take place. I'd be shocked if there weren't new teams at 2 and 4 come Thursday, unless Giants take a QB.  Worst comes to worst I think the Browns can probably move down to 5 for something.

Not sure if I see a scenario where Rashaan Evans is not selected in the first round.
Think the Steelers defiantly take him if he's there. There should be a good RB for them to take in the 2nd if thats what they want to do. But thats a great mock. Would love to see that many trades. And this is the first draft I can remember where nobody has any idea what the hell is going to happen from the first pick on. Should make for great tv. Or if you're like me, I'll be watching the live draft hangout with the FBG gang on youtube.

I have seen enough of the Browns trading down to last a lifetime and pass up guys like Wetnz, Zeke and Ramsey (all in the same draft).

I wipe my ### with fine let's stay put and get the best QB and the best DL or RB in the draft.  Let's have 2 superstars and stop this stock piling of garbage we have drafted over the past 5 years in trading down over and over again.

Yeah, I've heard this before thanks.  Not really.

I've seen so many mocks with Tampa passing on Nelson it's starting to piss me off.  Honestly zero percent chance they pass on him.  They have a giant hole at LG and drafting Nelson makes Sweezy and his $6M cap hit expendable.

Bucs' fans are more worried he doesn't make it to 7th pick.

I'll go deep on this because you have a valid point.

I have to agree that Nelson is the third best player of the draft and confess that most of the mocks I've seen have Derwin going #7 and I didn't agree with that so I 'cheated' by giving Minka to them.

If Q goes to TB then it screws everyone's mock up because you have to put the top LB to CHI which steals them from OAK and SF.

Denzel would go higher but he's undersized and light and isn't a return guy and he is slated as a slot CB more than playing outside.  The top CB tend to go higher but the top of this draft has the QBs and blue chip players rated above him and that is why I have hid dropping outside of the top-ten.

Minka could drop to OAK but that didn't feel right so I do agree with your point that Quentin Nelson is a blue-chip player that should go after Saquon and Chubb.

Minka was consistently slotted in the top-four before the Combine and dropped a smidgen, not because of anything he did wrong but because Derwin blew up his Combine.  The issue is that Derwin is pegged as box SS which tend to go lower in the draft.  It is splitting hairs but I did give the TB pick a lot of consideration.

I don’t imagine the Bucs care if other teams’ drafts get screwed up.

I think they’ll take Derwin or Vea if all of Chubb, Barkley, and Nelson are not available, but they aren’t passing on any of them to take a safety.
