2018-19 NBA Thread: Magic Johnson leaves Lakers in order to pursue other jobs to be completely terrible at (3 Viewers)

Sixers going crazy today.  Acting like it's the first day of Free Agency.
all without a GM in place :scared: . I guess the approach is the clean up some loose ends and bring someone on who doesn't have to worry about anything immediate

From ESPN

The timing of Philadelphia's moves suggests some advanced work by a front office working without a GM. The Sixers must first deal Holmes to the Suns to create the cap space necessary to sign Bolden to a deal longer than two years. Only then will Philadelphia go over the cap by completing the three-team trade reported Thursday that sends Carmelo Anthony to the Atlanta Hawks.

6ers trading Richaun Holmes?? thats a weird move  :confused: He was actually getting some pre season hype last year
They are signing Jonah Bolden who I honestly don't get the hype that Sixers fans have with this guy. Seems like a nice bench guy who can shoot a little as a 4 but nothing to cream your pants over. Sixers getting $1M in the trade.

Could never find time on the floor. Amir Johnson always got the time. So my guess is Coach Brown couldn't trust him to do what was needed during crunch time. Ultimately he doesn't matter in this league. He might make a living but he won't make a difference.
I'd honestly take Holmes over Johnson though.

I think this year LBJ could have the energy to play better D since he won't have to carry the play making duties. I'd rather have Rondo, Ball, Hart, Ingram, Kuz, and Lance over Hill, JR, KLove, TT, Hood, Korver, and Jeff Green.

Can't believe I'm hyping up the Lakers. UGH.
I agree about rather having LeBron and the Lakers then LeBron and the Cavs,  but that doesn't mean they will give the Warriors problems. In reality the Lakers could win a game from the Warriors in the playoffs and they gave the Warriors more trouble than the Cavs.

:shock:     i'll give you the underlined above if 6ers can only have Embiid and SImmons. Give them more than those 2 and they eclipse the Lakers with ease . Yes, Lebron is a top 3 player of all time, likely. But taking 3 of the top scorers last year in Lopez, Randall and Nance, and replacing them with McVee and Stephenson does not equal more wins.
That's not what happened. They did replace Lopez with McGee, but they replaced Randle with LeBron and Nance with more Kuzma. You also have to factor in expected improvement from Ingram, Ball, Kuzma and Hart, and that last year Ball missed 30 games and Ingram 23. There seemed to be a lot of games last season that the Lakers were in near the end but then the other team has a star player to go to down the stretch and the Lakers didn't. Now they do.

I agree completely, but the initial post was in rebuttal to people thinking the Lakers wouldn't make the playoffs and couldn't sniff 50 wins.

Yogi Ferrell backs out of his deal with the Mavs, signs a very reasonable contract with Sacramento. The Kings are definitely here for you if you want to back out of a verbal agreement and sign there for a tiny bit more money.

Magic and Rob have taken our young, innocent core and thrown them to the wolves.  I think Kuzma and Hart can handle it and will emerge stronger, but Ingram and Ball are still impressionable.  Hope they don't get eaten alive....

Can we bet these line?

Wizards = over

Hawks = under, I would still take the under if they played 100 games.

Rockets = over

Lakers = under

Mavericks = under

Clippers = over

They are not Vegas totals. They are CBS totals based on simulations of playing the season over and over again.  Not sure what their model or methodology is or how they came to their conclusions.

And for what it is worth, I think Dudley and Faried are still rotation level players.

I don't suspect they'll be objectively good this season, but they have a full roster of NBA talent for the first time in 5 years. I could see them approaching playoff contention in the depleted east.
That's a real possibility - it would certainly be on-brand for the Nets to start winning once they finally get their pick back.

I honestly have no idea where they land in the lottery next year. On the one hand, they have their best roster in years, their young guys will (hopefully) keep on improving, and they lost a lot of close games last year - maybe they do a better job closing, stay healthier, and pick in the 8-11 range after winning 30+ games. On the other hand, they're still far less talented than other bad teams like Phoenix and Chicago, they have zero star power, and they have a big incentive to lose - maybe they end up with a top-5 pick after all.

Wolves seems low.

According to Albert nahmad, if the sixers had just waited to sign Amir Johnson, they wouldn’t have had to trade Richaun to clear that cap room.

of course, if ####### bjelica didn’t screw then over, then they probably wouldn’t have been stuck like that.

#### it, grudge reinstated.

Luol Deng - F - Lakers

A Lakers executive said Luol Deng is "all but semi-retired."

The exec added that he may never play again in the NBA unless he "has a change of heart." The Lakers were looking to possibly trade Deng last season but could never get anything done. He only played in one game last season and that was opening night. There's no reason to believe we'll see him suit up for Lakers again, or possibly play in the NBA period.
