For those in Devy or dynasty, This kid might be the first Buffalo college football player to be drafted in the first round since Mack.   He's on the Maxwell and Bilentnikoff watch list this upcoming season and was very impressive last year with 1356 yards and 14 TD's   He's 6'2 215 and very athletic.  Buffalo played Minnesota last year (Not a power house, but a Big Ten School) and he had 11-140-1, it wasn't a blow out.

@litmanjohnson on twitter, he has a few backflip one handed catches on there.  He's very acrobatic and can high point the ball and battle. Someone I'm excited to watch again locally this year.

Gabriel: The 2019 NFL draft WR who will surprise you

Excerpt:

In 2017, Buffalo had injury problems at quarterback with three players starting games there. But that didn't prevent Johnson from putting up huge numbers -- he finished the season with 76 receptions for 1,356 yards and 14 touchdowns.

In his final three games against Bowling Green, Ball State and Ohio, Johnson caught 21 passes for 468 yards (22.3-yard average) and 8 touchdowns.

Yes, he is a big-play performer.

Johnson has ideal NFL wide receiver size at about 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds. He isn't a "burner," but he is easily fast enough. I would estimate his 40-yard dash speed to be in the range of 4.47 to 4.50 seconds. Johnson is very long and has outstanding play strength to block and break tackles after the catch.

In the Buffalo offense he almost always plays outside, and with his size and strength he easily gets off press coverage. While his route tree in their spread offense is limited, he does a great job getting open against man and zone coverage.

Johnson is a very good athlete with body control and a burst, and he gets in and out of cuts to gain separation on a consistent basis. He consistently snatches the ball and shows the ability to adjust very well to the ball in the air and make the difficult catch with his long arms and big hands. After the catch, he is like a running back with his run instincts and strength.

Johnson has caught the eye of NFL scouts. Former Senior Bowl director Phil Savage took a trip to Buffalo last April to watch Johnson in spring practice. Although Savage no longer runs the Senior Bowl, it is still a lock that Johnson will be performing for scores of NFL people at that annual January all-star game.

With wide receiver clearly a stopwatch-driven position, how high Johnson goes in the next draft will be determined by how fast he runs at the NFL Scouting Combine. If he runs in the 4.4s, he has a strong chance of being one of the first wide receivers drafted next year.

He is that good.

Regardless, he will be an eventual starter in the NFL, as tall receivers with play speed and a large receiving radius are always in high demand by NFL coaches and scouts.

He's been banged up earlier in the year but last night on ESPN vs Miami (OH) 8-238-3

Buffalo got 14 votes in the AP last week, could be ranked in the near future.

excerpt:

ESPN couldn’t have asked for a better game than UB vs. Miami (OH) to feature on their first edition in 2018 of “MACtion Tuesdays” on ESPN2. The Bulls and Red Hawks had themselves a barnburner of a game at UB Stadium with first place in the MAC East Division on the line.

Led by Anthony Johnson, who caught eight passes for a UB single game record 238 yards and three touchdowns, the Bulls out-gunned Miami’s (3-6, 3-2) offense and were able to maintain their undefeated record in the MAC with a 51-42 win.

The senior wide receiver had been battling a leg injury for the past month to six weeks, but after Tuesday night, he seems like he’s all the way back to 100 percent.

“Before the game my body was feeling good,” Johnson said after the win. “I know when I’m healthy I can make big plays for this team.”

With the victory the Bulls move to 5-0 in conference play and 8-1 overall. Eight wins also matches the most in a single season for the Bulls since moving to the FBS in 1999.

Jackson finished the night completing 20 passes on 35 attempts for 358 yards and three touchdowns. The quarterback also ran for three scores as well.

The back and forth action continued and with about five minutes remaining in the third quarter Anthony Johnson caught his third touchdown pass of the night and gave the Bulls another two-touchdown lead.

Johnson’s third touchdown was also the catch that gave him the UB record for most receiving yards in a single game.

“When AJ’s healthy he’s the best receiver in college football in my eyes,” Tyree Jackson said postgame. “Having a guy like that on your team is awesome. He makes great plays and it’s a blessing to play with him. We have a great connection, there are times when he might switch a route up a little different but we’re on the same page and we understand each other, and like I said, he’s a playmaker.”

UB’s next game will be on Tuesday, November 6th when they host Kent State at 7:30 PM at UB Stadium

His QB, Jackson, is sure to start getting attention among pro scouts too.  Huge guy, huge arm.  I mean, like 6’7” and 250 lbs huge.  Can make all the throws.

Anyone have a clip of the 60 yard bomb he threw to Johnson last night?  It was impressive.

UB is a fun team to watch this year and might be for years to come.  Go Bulls.

Buffalo redshirt senior WR Anthony Jonson registered seven receptions for 124 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-29 loss to NIU on Friday.

A tremendous game for Johnson, although the majority of this damage was done in the first half. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound wideout showed his impressive ball skills on both scores -- with credit to Tyree Jackson for excellent throws -- and also was able to make defenders miss in the open field. Johnson had an inconsistent regular season, but the talent is obvious. He'll have on more college game when the Bulls play in a Bowl this December.

Nov 30 - 10:41 PM

Buffalo redshirt senior WR Anthony Johnson accepted an invitation to the Reese's Senior Bowl.

We're excited about this one. Johnson didn't quite match his ridiculous production in 2017 during the 2018 campaign, but he still had some monster games, and the 6-foot-2, 210-pound wideout has looked good doing it. With his frame and ball skills, he has a chance to be one of the first senior wide receivers selected. A strong showing in Mobile will go along way towards solidifying that status.

He was hurt and not 100% for a bunch of this year. I'm excited to watch him run different routes and play with better quarterbacks.  This kid is good.

Anthony Johnson - WR -  Bulls

The Draft Network's Brad Kelly compares Buffalo WR Anthony Johnson to New York Jets WR Jermaine Kearse.

Kearse went undrafted after a productive career with the Huskies, and that won't happen to Johnson (6'2/211), who currently projects as a Day 2 selection. He's gone on to have a solid -- if not spectacular -- career with the Seahawks and Jets, and they have a similar style and skill set. As Kelly summarizes: "With physicality and consistent route running, it’s easy to see a future for Johnson because of his possession traits."

Buffalo WR Anthony Johnson ran the 40-yard dash in an unofficial 4.55 seconds at his pro day.

Johnson (6'2/203) isn't a terrible athlete, but he didn't help himself at his pro day. In addition to his below average forty, Johnson only managed a 32.5-inch vertical jump and a 7.12-second three-cone, but Johnson still should get looks because of his possession traits. At Buffalo last year, Johnson averaged 10.8 yards per target while scoring 11 touchdowns in 12 games, which likely makes him a Day 3 prospect.

Buccaneers signed Buffalo WR Anthony Johnson.

Johnson (6’2/203) played two seasons for the Buffalo Bulls after transferring from JUCO, emerging as Tyree Jackson’s go-to threat with a career 133/2,367/25 (17.8 YPR) receiving line and earning first-team All-MAC in both years. Johnson’s stock took a hit in pre-draft workouts with below-par results in the forty (4.55), vertical (32 ½"), and three-cone drill (7.12). Experienced in both the downfield and slot games, Johnson is a better prospect than his measurables indicate with a chance to evolve into a high-end No. 3 or low-end No. 2 wideout if coached up properly. He has some deep sleeper appeal.

Buccaneers waived WR Anthony Johnson.

After posting two-straight All-MAC seasons with the Buffalo Bulls, Johnson went undrafted because of his below-average athletic testing (4.55 forty and 32.5-inch vertical). Johnson would do well to emerge as anything more than a depth option in the NFL now that he was waived in his first summer.

This thread was a roller coaster, damn. First post, potential future first rounder. Ends up UDFA. Last post, cut after his first training camp.

Yeah so much promise for he and Tyreek Jackson.  Johnson’s good friend passed away and he got hurt and couldn’t shake either. Didn’t get drafted after a sub-par Senior season and didn’t flash in spring/summer in a crowded TB depth chart. I’m curious if he’ll end up on a PS anywhere. It sucks he’s a good kid, enjoyed watching him at UB.
