Patrick Stewart will star in new Star Trek TV series as Jean-Luc Picard (1 Viewer)

this bums me out.  No way am I paying for CBS all access just for this and I am a big TNG and Picard fan.

But network TV is awful....so I would be paying way too much money for one series.  Shame too cause I'd like to watch it.

You can always wait until the season has finished and then take advantage of the free week or month from signing up then cancel.

It's getting to the point where I'm considering a rotating subscription between a bunch of these networks.  Too many out there and I'm not paying for more than 1 at a time.

Just watched the first episode. Initially I thought it was gonna be some Blade Runner rip-off, but there’s a whole lotta stuff going on. I’m in

Just finished it.  my whole family enjoyed it.

Stewart has lost nothing on his fastball.  The scene between him and the tv reporter was the best piece of acting in a Star Trek show in a long long time.

Opening scene hooked me in. Picard and Data playing Poker. Felt good. The attack in the apartment felt a bit cliched but ok. Setting some mystery stuff up.

This interview thing is where they lost me. It's just an exposition hammer. No one talks like that not even in fiction.

Sigh.

I'll watch the rest of the episode but this interview scene is just awful.

What?! Wth was that fight scene?

Since when do Romulans have Acid Blood?

Nevermind I see he bit a cyanide pill then spit it in her face causing her entire body to melt and the gun near by to explode like 10 lbs of C4. So much better.

Perfectly sums up my feelings so far.

The one reminder of the original series really nailed my thoughts on how wrong they are with Star Trek. The episode where Abraham Lincoln calls Uhura a negri's and she is visibly confused by what he meant. When he explains and tries to apologize she simply laughs. It was to prove the point that society in ST had evolved so far that the thought of racism doesn't even enter their brains. It just doesn't exist. This was the hopeful future Roddenberry had envisioned.

Now we're here.

I have a significant problem with Youtube's annoying habit of "reviews" longer than the thing they're reviewing. A 46 minute review of a 45 minute episode? Someone else linked to a 2.5 hour review of Joker. These "content" mongers need to learn to edit.

I'm not sitting through this. If you can't make your point in six minutes, you don't have one. You're just in it for the likes.

Not my video. No sweat off my back. Just a couple of Star Trek nerds talking bout trek.

So do you want exposition or not?  ;)

Watched The Offspring and Measure of a Man as one review had suggested.  Good episodes, this is going to lean heavily on the humanity theme I think.

This shows' dialogue is awful. Some great actors and just awful lines they have to deliver. And an F bomb in Star Trek. How edgy. Guess it's not meant for kids.

This fake Vulcan commodore chick is awful. Whether she's a Vulcan or a Romulan, her delivery makes me believe she's an undercover Android.

And really with the lens flare. Are we sure this isn't the Kelvin universe? Romulan supernova, xenophobic Federation and lens flare. It's like they picked up from the 2009 movie and went with that future.

Television has gotten so good but this show has chosen to be the boring, cliche tv of the 80's-90's.  I guess it's not surprising since it's CBS.  I hope Tarantino does the next Star Trek movie.

Pretty much why I wont pay for CBS "all access"  network TV sucks

Well they didn't really break anything lore wise this week. Just really boring and generic plot with people that act like they've known Picard his whole life and that we the audience should care for them.  Still no classic crew. Still no 7 of 9. Finally got on a ship.

Then there's the magic girl plot thats supposed to be this big mystery but it seems to be getting dumber each week. Now the Romulan section 31 (or maybe just regular section 31 idk) wants to kill her because of a prophecy or something?

But it has plenty of the modern action that people like. They had a 62 second fight scene that had 67 jump cuts. Very Taken Liam Neesan jumping a fence style action.

I couldn't even finish episode number 3.  Bad acting and boring dialogue.  I don't think Patrick Stewart's heart is in this.  He did it for the paycheck.

I kind of feel bad watching him in this. He's 79 but the effort he has to put into each line makes you cringe. We know he's a great actor but age has really caught up to him in this.

Anyone watching this thing? I feel like I'm the only one.

Anyway, another opening flashback exposition dump where we advance nothing in the plot but add another character to the show. He uses a sword. In Star trek. I feel like that would have limited uses.

So Picard basically side tracks the whole trip for an entire episode to get this kid onboard. Then the smaller more agile ship they are in is fighting an old klingon bird of prey on a space battle. Nevermind that the smaller ship should outmaneuver the bigger one but they end up losing until a mysterious 3rd ship saves the day with amazing flight skills. They then beam the survivor a board and oh it's 7 of 9. End episode.

Also Raffi keeps #####ing at everything Picard says and calls him JL every sentence she utters to remind us that she's his best friend.

Some stuff happened at the Borg cube that was less than irrelevant to the plot unless you like forced romance between characters you really don't have a reason to care about.

Next week, Picard wears a pirates eye patch. No context on that but it's happening. We'll see where that goes.

I’ve been watching it. I laughed kinda hard at the Romulan ninja he brought to his cadre in episode 4. Stewart has slowed down for sure. Still watching, but it’s meh imo. I like Discovery a lot (many don’t) and was hoping this would be comparable. It’s not.

I think this is the episode that will have most regular people tapping out. Unless you're into torture porn.

So in this episode, Picard is an Englishman, playing a Frenchman, who's disguised as an Englishman with a horrible french accent wearing an eye patch as a legitimate disguise.  If the show was a parody, I might have laughed.

This show makes no ####### sense. So the blonde chick is simultaneously a brilliant "synthetic" scientist and also the dumbest person alive. She can't operate a transporter. Seven is here to kill people it seems. JL is here to get yelled at a lot and then blonde chick randomly kills the guy they were after who was also her mentor. Probably because "oh she's a spy!"

This was written by fanfic authors that didn't really care for Star Trek and thought it should be "edgier". There's nothing thought provoking here. There's no moral themes. It's girl A blew up now we need to save girl b for reasons. Except we have a loner space Captain, a former Starfleet drug addict who failed at her marriage, an idiot scientist who's apparently a double spy for agent sunglasses, a kid who's only reason for being there is he uses swords and Picard himself who is basically just a shell with the name Picard on it for how differently he acts to TNG Picard.

This show is trash. I take back what I said before about if the name Star trek were removed this would be an ok scifi film. It would be a Saturday afternoon Sci-fi channel made for tv movie with some better visuals.

Hopefully the dragon eggs will  hatch with still enough time left to save this mess.

I am still on board, but that was a pretty weak episode. They couldn't pick the tone for it. It was a super dark episode, but they were trying for humor through a lot of it. The characters are not developed enough for the storyline.

The hunting exborg for parts idea doesn't really make a lot of sense.

So the brilliant scientist can't figure out the transporter but the ninja sword guy can beam himself to an exact place, inside a secure facility on high alert? Speaking of the brilliant scientist is her part in the story now a hookup for the pirate captain? If we are going to get hookups can we at least get the hot Romulan mean girl sister involved?

This show is dead. Good riddance. Hopefully we just pretend it never happened and it was all just the fever dream of an old man coming down with Irumodic Syndrome slowly losing his mind.

The show finally meandered to an end where they killed Picard for 5 mins then brought him back to life in an Android body.... that looks exactly like he did before. How they had a body set up to be an 84 year old man ready to go is beyond me but there it is. Picard is an Android (or synth as this dumb show calls it) now.

Also more copying of Mass Effect and more convuluted bull#### they tried passing off as plot. The Romulans saw a vision of synths destroying all life in the Galaxy so they decided a plan that killed millions of people to frame synths and get them banned in order to draw out the Galaxy ending synths for a big space ####ery battle between fake Romulan ships and... giant flower petals. They didn't want to rip off Mass Effect directly here and have the reapers exactly the same so they made them flowers. Otherwise the space battle is the same as ME3.

So the Romulans are actually trying to save the Galaxy at this point and the Federation shows up... to stop the Romulans with Will Ryker leading the charge. Despite him being retired in the woods 2 episodes earlier. Nothing of consequence happens from this battle. Everyone mourns PICARD'S death for 5 mins including Seven and Raffi implying they're lesbians now (but failing to go the full way to prove their lesbians). Then they put Picard in an Android that looks exactly like him.

The blonde chick killed her mentor in cold blood because she thought he was behind this plot (whatever this plot was) but that proved to be incorrect. So she killed her mentor for no reason. They all know it now and nothing happens to her.

The leader of Star Fleet intelligence was a "super secret" Romulan spy that randomly shows up leading the Romulan fleet at the end. Cause that seems normal.  She manipulated all the attacks on Mars to draw out the Galaxy ending synths, killing millions of her own people as well as the tens of thousands on Mars. Nothing happens to her. She's allowed to leave. Not escape. Just leave.

The incest twins? They had no purpose.

The Android chick cloned from a molecule of data's posetronic brain? Nothing happens to her.

So ultimately, this was a show with a half assed plot drug out over 10 episodes with no point and nothing resembling anything to Star Trek. They say there will be a season 2 but I can't see that happening now. They made CBS access free in the hopes to get anyone watching the thing and I still don't think anyone cares except for those that hate watched it. With the C-Virus halting production on everything and CBS stock tanking, I can't see them dumping more money into a project no one will watch.
