Songs that didn't age well (1 Viewer)

Physical - spent 10 weeks at number 1 in 1981/1982, yet is an afterthought now when there is chatter about the best songs of the 80's

Pat Travers “Boom Boom” doesn’t look so good.

No kiddin'
I'm ready to fight
I've been lookin' for my baby all night
If I get her in my sight
Boom boom, right here, out go the lights

No kiddin'
I'm ready to go
When I find her boy don't you know
If I get her in my sight
Boom boom, what is it, out go the lights

I thought I treat my baby fair
I just found out she don't want me here
If I get her in my sight
Boom boom, come on, out go the lights

I never felt this mad before
When I just found out she don't want me no more
If I get her in my sight
Boom boom, come on, out go the lights

No kiddin'
I'm ready to fight

If I get her in my sight
Boom boom, one more, out go the lights

I was listening to The Bonfire joking about Benny Mardones (Into the night).

I wondered what other songs didn't age well.  Dire Straits (Money for nothing)  is another one that comes to mind because he used the F word.  They changed it to "queer" when they perform the song live now from what I heard.

Whatcha got?
The F-version of Money for Nothing is hard to find.   It is still heavily played on 80's and classic rock stations with that verse deleted.

Also the fact that the narrator installed "microwave ovens" (which don't require dealer installation anymore) and "color TVs" (all TVs are color nowadays).
Built-in microwaves are very common and a growing market like the ones above the stove which also perform ventilation.

:lmao:

A favorite of roller rink DJs.

And true story...

Back when I was in junior college (aka The Best 5 Years of My Life) I would have to drive halfway across town to get to school.

Every morning I would end up seeing the same car over and over for the last couple of miles.  It was a Ford Escort driven by some gawky, white kid.

His license plate read PT ROCKS. The custom made plate frame said “Pat Travers....Rocks!”.

It cracked me up every time I saw it. It also made me a little sad.

Most of the Beasty Boy’s collection
strongly disagree here... But most 80s hip-hop didn't age very well.  Stuff like Beasties (you didn't even spell it right jackazzz!!!), That was sample heavy with the drums sound good, but stuff where the beats are programed w/ machines sound cheesecake.  I wish I had a good example.  Something from Biz Markie maybe.

They don’t deserve the proper spelling these days. I used to be a big fan but I can’t listen to any of their stuff outside of Paul’s Boutique and their instrumental album without wanting to gouge my eyes.

Lots of weird older songs about young girls. I try to give the benefit of the doubt that the song is written from the perspective of when the singer was a teen themselves. I mean a guy can write a movie or direct a film about teen love so I suppose it’s within reason for a songwriter to have nostalgia for a high school crush. It’s still pretty cringeworthy at times.

A lot of all the early ‘80s heavy synthesizer music might have aged the worst.  Songs like Whip It for example. It sounded new and cool at the time (at least to my 10-year old ears) but it’s hard not to laugh at now.

The entire catalog of Gary Puckett & The Union Gap
This is the answer here. Someone on FBGs years ago when I pointed out the lyrics didn't age well told me, they "weren't that creepy". That post didn't age well either. About 95 percent sure it was Tobias Funke fwiw
