We’ve got until 2030 to get climate change under control. After that it’s too late.

We're seeing it right in front of our eyes. Sunny day floods, wildfires, killing heat waves.

This has happened throughout the history of the world.  It's just that the news of it is more prevalent and having 8 billion people on the planet makes each natural disaster affect more.  Hell, the southwest US has had droughts that lasted 240 years just barely over a millenium ago.  I get that we need to take better care of the planet, but this alarmist BS is hurting the effort more than helping it.

But we’ve been told with every released report that these are unchallengeable conclusions, proven by consensus - which apparently is vastly superior to scientific method.

You should get that checked.  Those voices might be in your head.

So if we instead don't sound any alarms, and just keep on keeping on, the planet would heal itself?

Do you guys really believe this? Doesn't the goal post keep getting moved further out on this? If you want to double-down on Al Gore's frivolous prediction, be my guest. By the way, we don't have control over most of the world's emissions. China is the biggest offender and I don't see them slowing down anytime soon.

China signed the Paris Accord and is on track to hit its 2020 and 2030 pledges.

No just maybe don't be so "in your face" about it.  Guys are trying to get their piece of the pie here.  If we #### the planet for future generations, that's their problem not ours right?  Time to get me some me.

Hurricane Michael is rapidly intensifying into a high-end Cat4.....in Mid October. This is NOT normal.  One of the things that happens when temperatures go up just a degree or two, is things like this.  A storm that may hit as a Cat2-3, hits as a 4-5.  I can't believe real actual people don't believe the climate is changing.

Yes, hurricanes do happen in October. Please look beyond a single storm, or single month of warm/cold, or any number of other weather related occurences and look at the entire world and the rate of change.

No you have it backwards.  You are believing all the right wing propaganda.

I believe in a thing called science, you should learn about it.

Exxon has taken an strange tack in this.   They were really the first to study the effects of carbon emissions on climate change, then decided to bury their results and lobby against mitigating measures.   Recently, they have made statements (including on their website's home page) acknowledging the problem and claiming that they are working toward solutions.   They've also invested heavily in clean energy technologies.  At the same time, they are doing business as usual, lobbying in favor of offshore drilling and opening up more of Alaska to drilling.

In the meantime, other oil companies are engaging in campaigns of outright lies to defeat Washington State's carbon tax, which could be a blueprint for other states since Trump is a climate change denier and refuses to do anything at the federal level.

Is it that unreasonable to think it would. Perhaps it;s healing itself right now,  The planet has changed so many times that who's to even say this is it's "normal state" What's normal for humans may might not be whats normal for the planet.

What are the outright lies? I didn't see any mentioned in that article. Did you mean to link a different article?

We have no idea what the temperature of the earth was 2000 years ago.  It could have been much much hotter or much much colder.

What should the average temperature of the earth be?  We have no idea.

Which is why this is all hooey.

Pretty sure ice cores from Greenland and the Antarctic can give us clues

It is important to remember that when a new equilibrium is reached on temps, sea levels, c02 content etc. that equilibrium may not be conducive to human life.

Perhaps it is speciescentric but I really prefer the Earth at an equilibrium that does.

If it helps it was the end of a warming period following an ice age.

I am old enough to remember hurricane Camille.  If memory serves that was an August storm, but quite impressive.  1969 or 70 I am thinking.

As with most things, this will be "fixed" by money.  As soon as companies realize it will help their bottom line to either switch or fix things they will do it but most likely not before.  To get there we just need to have more advancement and people willing to make the switch now when it's not necessarily a cost savings for them.  Whether this will be soon enough is yet to be determined.

Just because you don’t know doesn’t mean scientists don’t.

Tend to agree with this. Unfortunately we’ll continue to wreck everything til we get to that point.

Well, I believe in the soul, the ####, the #####, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days.
