Nick Foles Landing Spot/Contract Size (Jags, reportedly 4/88 50 guaranteed)

This is just my two cents btw. I have know way of knowing... He owns the Giants. If the money is right then sure. But, he just isn't spiteful like Favre when he signed with Min, or Hue Jackson advising Cin this season. He loves Philly too much to do that. The guy was crying in post-game pressers knowing it could be the last time he wore and Eagles uniform. I also ruled out the Eagles, way before they stated the obvious, because I don't think he would want to take any light from Carson. Relationships are a big deal to him. He also was content retiring, giving his bonus back to the Rams so he could be released, so the money might not even be the biggest motivator.

Google Larry Foles. Nick's ok with the money.

If someone gives Foles 36M over 2 years they’re going to get what they deserve good and hard.  I’m looking at you, Jacksonville

His worst case scenario right now is 1/25 if the Eagles decide to tag him.

If he becomes a FA, there isn't a dollar amount I wouldn't wager that says his deal will be worth more than the numbers you quoted.

That and the Rams were "dumb" enough to pay him

Money might not matter if you're talking about a few million dollars to this guy, but turn that conversation into over $75mm, I'm sure he'll have second thoughts.

Furthermore, between winning the Super Bowl and then resuscitating the season again this year, pretty sure a competitor like this guy is ready to roll. He said it in his last interview with the media, he wants to lead a team, he wants to positively impact a locker room - those were his words.

While money will play a factor, I'm sure if he makes $10mm less over 4 seasons, but sees the opportunity to win, he might take that route, but he isn't non-profit organization.

The Giants have a lot of solid pieces in place for an offense and a storied franchise - under the right circumstance, I couldn't imagine why he wouldn't go there.

Money isn’t his biggest motivator. His family is extremely well off. This dude really does play for love of people and then the game.

My prediction:  Jacksonville to be with DiFillipo.  3 years/65 million.

While I think it is a good idea for the Eagles to try and franchise Nick and then trade him, based on their cap situation, I don't think they will be able to do it. Right now, the Eagles are $12 million over the cap and that includes Nick with a $20 million cap figure. If they franchise him, that puts his number up to $25 million so they would be $17 million over the cap. While they do have some veterans they can cut, they don't have enough who aren't significant contributors to get very far under the cap. For instance, they would probably have to cut Peters to save $8 million in cap space, but do they really want to do that yet?

The Eagles have to hope there is a team that wants him badly and quickly enough and that trading for him is the only way they feel they can get him (Foles wouldn't sign with them if he was on the open market). I don't know if there is anyone out there who fits this bill.

Pretty sure you can rule Miami out of this conversation, FWIW. They're going to have a ton of dead cap on their books already in 2019, and if they cut Tannehill, they're going to add another 8-13mm. Plus, their owner/GM are apparently looking at a full rebuild.

I'm not saying it has anything to do with spite, but there is zero chance he's writing off going to an NFC East team because of his love affair with Philly. It's crazy to me how so many of you Eagles fans seem to think like this.

He's been ruled out from the Eagles because they can't afford him and they already have a QB, it has nothing to do with not wanting to take any light from Carson. I'm not saying money is the only factor, but you guys are living in fantasy land if you think either side's primary motivation is helping out the other- it's a business, both are going to do what they feel is in their best interest.

Franchising the guy is a very very very risky proposition.

You're hoping a team trades a worthwhile pick to get the guy on a one year deal, where he might not even sign a longer term deal with that team. I think they'll take the $20mm option on him, but I also think he pays them the $2mm, takes his freedom, and finds the proper fit himself.

I hate the Giants, but I think they could provide him with the most surrounding skilled players and a real shot at success.

The Bucs wouldn't be bad either. If he had someone like Evans to throw the ball to, guy throws possibly the best jump ball out of any QB in the league.

Which is why he and Jeffery had such a good connection

They certainly are, he led a game winning drive & threw a TD pass with less than 2 minutes to go against them on their field.

Might’ve done it in NO too if it wasn’t for a fluke play.

I don't know, it seemed like a lot of speculation in that article. I'm not saying it will go good or it will go bad. But that sounded like an opinion piece without much substance behind it to me. Which of course is true of much of the off-season articles we'll read up until draft day.

You would have to comprehend my first two sentence before calling me crazy. The rest is pure speculation from someone who’s been following him for some time and actually just returned his book to the library this week where he wrote on his faith, retiring, returning with the coach that believed in him 1st in KC over other suitors, then choosing his relationships in Phi over other suitors and all of the emotions/experience he has tied to the fans, players, coaches and staff through the Super Bowl run. Here’s a snippet for yourself. Imagine hundreds of pages worth of this https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2018/12/24/nick-foles-emotional-after-victory-what-could-be-his-last-home-game-philadelphia/

Even with all that said, I just posted UNBIASED ODDS on potential landing spots. I’m well aware of the options. The odds, if you’re a betting man, are around 9% to NYG, 14% Phi, 28.5% to Was considering the vacancy. That’s my baseline, not zero percent just because I’m a fanatic. You can put your money on Was and NYG. I just stated why I wouldn’t. Was is, and will always be, just a money grab for FAs. NY has the Shurmur relationship, but are still committed to their SB winning QB(see what I did here). I’ll stand by my reasoning on why he wouldn’t stay with the Eagles. He’s just not a “it’s just business” type of person. I just heard a story how after the Super Bowl he tells Carson “We’re going to get you one next year”. Carson told him “You just won the Super Bowl. Enjoy it.” I wouldn’t underestimate their relationship or Nick’s morals. I think he would have left regardless of what happened this season.

If someone hands him a check that includes the lost wages Chip Kelly and Jeff Fisher cost him(I did it again) then I take this all of this back, but I didn’t pull this out of thin air.

If we’re in a fantasy land, you must live under a rock. There’s been plenty of speculation on the Eagles sticking with Nick Foles. He almost forced their hand. They could afford him if that’s what they wanted with combinations of getting rid of some replaceable players, Long and Kelce retiring, trading a player like Agholor . That’s why he has a mutual option renegotiated in his contract AFTER the Super Bowl with tons of incentives in the first place. Howie knew what he was doing.

Could it be Nick Foles is simply a better football player than Wentz,  not unlike Joe Montana being better than all those physically superior to him?  Forget all that combine stuff, that size thing.

Look a Tom Brady, he's no athlete, yet the best QB we've seen.

Maybe Wentz needs to go, the Jags need a QB, the Giants, Hell....Raiders?

Yes, I know that isn't going to happen.

So there's Foles in Jax tearing it up and Wentz struggling in Philly..

Foles is a Dalton/Alex Smith-level talent. Possibly Eli in his prime.  Wentz is a Roethlisbierger/Rodgers-level talent.  This is why it's a no brainer for Philly. It's also why it took all of two days for Peterson to come out and say Wentz is the guy. In case anyone had any silly thoughts otherwise.

This team isn't going to be the same team next year....nevermind two or three years from now.  Yes, Foles works well with this team; these players.  But if I have to choose one of the two to build another or two Super Bowl contending teams around....I think it's Wentz and it's not even close.  I think Wentz becomes that Aaron Rodgers type where just him on the field makes a completely average Eagles football team a legit threat in the playoffs.  I don't see that with Foles.

You would have to read what I actually wrote in order to comprehend that I didn't call you crazy.

It appears that you are trying to backtrack here, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. You originally wrote "I don't think he'd join a NFCE rival", which is what I bolded and asked you "Why on earth would he not?". Now you seem to be using the vegas odds as your baseline, which clearly show that not only would he join a NFCE rival, it's more likely he ends up on a NFCE rival than in any other division.

Do you think Foles is the only player who ever got emotional about leaving a team? No one else has ties when they become a free agent? He's still going to be emotional, have all these unbreakable ties, etc. no matter where he ends up- do you seriously think he'd be too emotional to join the Giants or Skins but not Miami? His emotions and ties are to the team he's leaving, that isn't changing based on where he goes. Heck, staying in the NFCE means he'd get to see his BFF's more often, lol. He could help out the Eagles by beating the other NFCE teams and throwing the games against them!

If he is all about the Eagles and doesn't care about money as many of you seem to think, why didn't he turn down the raise in his new contract last year? Why would he accept the incentive bonus this year that he didn't even actually quite reach? Why wouldn't he play for the Eagles for a couple of million next year?

Sure, they could afford him if they wanted to gut the rest of their team, but no one thought that was a realistic possibility. I mean, he wouldn't have gotten all emotional for his last game if he thought there was much of a chance at all of him returning, right? So he wouldn't have cared about stepping on Carson's toes if they advanced and he forced their hand, but now that's why he won't sign there? Why did he sign the mutual option in the first place then?

It simply doesn't add up. Again, not saying money is the only factor and he's going to go to the highest bidder, but this notion that he and the Eagles have some unbreakable bond and that is going to dictate his every move is silly.

Backtracking and expanding are two different things. Unless Nick Foles is full of ####, I described how he's picked and choose teams since leaving Mich St., aside from getting drafted. This is someone who paid back a portion of his signing bonus to the Rams to be released just to retire from football. He said himself that he was content retired, his family fortunes were even brought up, yet you say it's crazy to think he not entirely motivated by money?

If I'm putting money down or making a play in fantasy then I'm using all of the information I have, including some psychological factors and not just 99% economics like you. I can be wrong. That's why I said it's pure speculation before jumping down this rabbit hole. I actually hope he just follows the money and make people look stupid again. I just don't see him going from that presser to standing up for a heated rival with what I know of his character. You can ask 100 more questions to dance around, I'll still stand by what I said and have nothing else to offer on the subject really. Crazy, silly, w/e.

It's more likely he doesn't sign in the NFCE than the field according to the odds of MIA, DEN, JAX alone. You misinterpreted the numbers. It's a long-shot outside of WAS, who has some cap and a vacancy.

No it's not a fact. The best the Eagles have played was the 13 games that a healthy Wentz started in 2017. The one where he was the runaway MVP before he got hurt. And gave them home field throughout the playoffs.

This past season, Wentz was 69% completion pct with 21 TDs and 7 interceptions.  While less than a year removed from both ALC and PCL tears. And playing his last few games with a broken vertebrae.  A healthy Foles was at 69% comp pct with 10 TDs and 8 interceptions.   So even an injured Wentz was better than a healthy Foles.  Facts

How many of these do ya want to see?

"The Eagles have been better with Nick Foles. But they’re committed to Carson Wentz"

I don't make stuff up guy.  Are you watching the games?

Dump just stats, look at what is actually going on.

Hell a QB passing for a ton of yards, why......always behind, that's why.

Top 5 passing yards this season:

Roethlisberger, Mahomes, Ryan,  Goff, Luck...other than maybe Ryan, I don’t recall these guys being “always behind” on their dominant, playoff bound teams.

A little fact-checking goes a long way...

"The Eagles have been better with Nick Foles. But they’re committed to Carson Wentz"

I don't make stuff up guy.  Are you watching the games?

Dump just stats, look at what is actually going on.

Hell a QB passing for a ton of yards, why......always behind, that's why.

I didn't post their yardage.  ROFL   I posted TDs to interceptions.   I love how you're anti-statistics when it blows your horrible argument out of the water.

Top 5 passing yards this season:

Roethlisberger, Mahomes, Ryan,  Goff, Luck...other than maybe Ryan, I don’t recall these guys being “always behind” on their dominant, playoff bound teams.

A little fact-checking goes a long way...

That was just an example of how stats don't always work, I assumed that was obvious.

Two boxers both with a 12-5 record, so they are the same?  Try, one started out losing his first five, hasn;t lost since, the other losing his last five

I was talking about how stats don't always work, nobody in particular, that wasn't obvious?

Do you live in a cave?  Google.,...The Eagles are better with Nick Foles.

See who has the horrible argument.

See me in two years. This entire conversation will be hilarious.  You're comparing Alex Smith with Aaron Rodgers.  You also somehow forgot that Carson Wentz was the best quarterback in the entire league in 2017.   Foles will do well in Jacksonville next year. An improvement from Bortles. Probably finish as a top 15 QB.  Wentz will contend for MVP again.  When healthy, they're not even in the same conversation.

How about actually doing what I asked?  Do you really think I;m the only one talking about this?  Check out what Brett Favre had to say, try.....keep Foles, trade Wentz.

Talking Carson Wentz as Aaron Rodgers hahhahaha!!!!!!

Take a few minutes, actually check out what is being said out there like I do, ok? Right now it's real obvious ya don't know.

I have heard a few people say they think Philly should keep Foles and try to get a king's ransom for Wentz.  A punch drunk Brett Favre wouldn't sway me regardless of his position on anything.

Who knows more about the two than Doug Pederson?  Sees them every day in practice.  How long did it take him to announce who his guy would be going forward?     Again, you're comparing Andy Dalton to Aaron Rodgers.  Giggle like a little girl all you want. Wentz was the best QB in the league last year.  Care to debate that?

Dude, giggle like a liittle girl?  A punch drunk Brett Favre?  Wentz/Rodgers,....hahahaha~~~~~~~

Dude, didn't Tom Brady sit the bench?  So much for a coachs QB decisions. Kurt Warner on the bench?

I can see why ya call yourself.....Junior.

Where are you getting Wentz the best QB last season?

Wentz comp%...60.2, QB rating  101.9

Drew Brees.....72.0 & 103.9

Wentz 33 TDs 7 Int.

Ten more touchdowns and one less interception.   You're terrible at this.

You sure love your strawmen.

I do not think it's crazy to think he is not entirely motivated by money, I think it's crazy to think that he wouldn't play for a NFCE rival because he loves Philly so much- it doesn't make any sense for starters and there's been no indication that he wouldn't. Likewise, I never said it's 99% economic, just that it's more economic (and other factors) than emotions and relationships. The odds makers and betting public know about these "psychological factors", yet they still clearly believe that he would play for a rival. All of your points are countered by the fact that he signed an extension with extra money from Philly last year, presumably is going to take his incentive bonus this off season (that he didn't reach), and that he's very likely to sign elsewhere this off season because the Eagles can't afford to pay his asking price. If there was some unbreakable bond between the two and the money wasn't a factor, he could very easily go back- I'm sure they'd love to keep him for a couple of mil per year. Any reason why you ignored all of those points (rhetorical question)?

I'm not sure if you're being intentionally obtuse at this point, but I did not misinterpret the numbers (I never said the odds of him signing with a NFCE rival was greater than the field, just that it's greater than any other division right now).

He can love Philly and be emotional and not be all about the money and still sign with the Giants or Skins. It's not like he has to spit on Philly to do so, no rational person would bat an eye if he decided to.

Are you kidding me?

Dude.....60.2  vs a gaudy....72...comp %

Wentz an inferior QB rating.

Do you have idea how any off this actually works?

Find me anyone anywhere who thinks Carson Wentz would make a zit on the butt of Drew Brees.

Compare what Russell Wilson has done in his first three seasons vs Carson Wentz.

I'm not going to sit here and educate you on the difference between throwing bombs to Agholor and Jefferey as compared to throwing 3 yard dumps to Kamara and letting him rack up your passing yards with his legs.  In fact, Wentz got up to 70% this season mainly because he didn't want to put the extra torque on his bad knee and chose to throw short passes to Ertz.  His 60% in 2017 was much more impressive than his 70% this year.   This started with you saying the Eagles never played better than they did this year with Foles behind center.  You obviously had no knowledge of their 11-2 record last year with Wentz throwing 33 TDs and only 7 interceptions.  Stop coming in unprepared and you'll stop embarrassing yourself.

The fact that you're using Drew Brees, a top 5 all-time quarterback, as your rebuttal against Wentz being the best QB in the league last year, is better than any point I could possibly make.  Thanks  LOL
