Such a crazy variety of picks here.  This has to be one of the closest (in terms of vegas spreads) WC weekends in recent memory.

13 total points of all spreads combined.  That's crazy.

weak division winners as well as strong wild card teams.
Should be a great weekend of football. We should see more than one road team take the victory.

first off, there is ALWAYS 1 top seed that is one-n-done in the postseason. so either rams, saints, pats, chiefs.weakest of the 4 is the chiefs. SB almost never pits the top teams from each conference against each other, meaning saints v. chiefs wont happen.

Colts always beat Hou this week should be no different

Eagles beat bears

Dallas at home plus their very good defense should mean a win for the Cowboys.

Ravens beat Chargers

Div playoff round:

Colts beat Chiefs

Saints beat Eagles

Ravens beat Pats

Cowboys beat Rams

Championship weekend:

Cowboys beat Saints

Colts beat Ravens

Cowboys beat Colts for SB. rematch from blowout a  couple weeks ago.

season unlike any other ..

Colts and Cowboys are two of the hottest teams in the playoffs

   Chargers over Ravens

  Saints over Seahawks

  Saints over Bears

 SB: Saints over Chargers

Adjusted numbers forecast for IND/HOU . . .

IND Offense (27.1 ppg + 4.9 adjusted ppg) + HOU Defense (19.8 ppg allowed + -1.2 adjusted ppg allowed) / 2 = 25.3 points

HOU Offense (25.1 ppg + 3.4 adjusted ppg) + IND Defense (21.5 ppg allowed + 1.5 adjusted ppg allowed) / 2 = 25.6 points

HFA for HOU = +3 points.

Projected score: HOU 28.6, IND 25.3

Methodology: I compared each team's performance against their opponents. I removed the scores of GAME X to develop an average scoring total in the opponent's 15 other games. For example, PHI allowed 21.8 ppg this year. Removing the game against HOU,  they allowed 21.2 ppg. HOU scored 30 points against the Eagles. So the Texans would get an offensive game score of +8.8 points for their game against the Eagles. Rinse and repeat for all 16 games . . . repeat same process for points allowed.

Based on that, the Colts offense scored an average of 4.9 ppg above the baseline that their opponents allowed.
The Colts defense allowed 1.5 ppg above the baseline other teams scored.
The Texans offense scored 3.4 ppg above the baseline their opponents allowed.
The Texans defense allowed 1.2 ppg below the baseline their opponents scored.

This is one year where I'm pretty confident the Patriots aren't going home with the Lombardi.
Most of us feel the same.

Which scares me a little.

I don't see the Patriots stopping Watson, nuk and their defense, but Brady could find a way.

Glad to see a couple people picking the eagles, although that game looks like the closest to a lock.

I’m sure I’ll be wrong, but guessing aggressively:

Texans over Colts

Chargers over Ravens

Bears over Eagles

Cowboys over Seahawks

——————————

Chargers over Chiefs

Patriots over Texans

Saints over Cowboys

Bears over Rams

——————————

Chargers over Patriots

Bears over Saints

Chargers over Bears

Teams that can really muck the above all up and have legit possibility to blow things up : 1. Ravens, 2. Colts,  3. Texans, 4. Seahawks.

Adjusted numbers forecast for SEA/DAL . . .

SEA Offense (26.8 ppg +  +3.1 adjusted ppg) + DAL Defense (20.3 ppg allowed + -2.8 adjusted ppg allowed) / 2 =  23.7 points

DAL Offense (21.2 ppg +  -1.7 adjusted ppg) + SEA Defense (21.7  ppg allowed + -1.8 adjusted ppg allowed) / 2 = 19.7 points

HFA for DAL = +3 points.

Projected score: SEA 23.7, DAL 22.7

Adjusted forecast for LAC / BAL . . .

LAC Offense (26.8 ppg +  +2.5 adjusted ppg) + BAL Defense (17.9 ppg allowed + -6.7 adjusted ppg allowed) / 2 =  20.3 points

BAL Offense (24.3 ppg +  -0.3 adjusted ppg) + LAC Defense (20.6  ppg allowed + -3.3 adjusted ppg allowed) / 2 = 20.7 points

HFA for BAL = +3 points.

Projected score: BAL 23.7, LAC 20.3

Anyone else doing a playoff confidence pool? For those unfamiliar, it works similarly to a regular-season confidence pool -- you pick the winners of each game straight up and assign points based on your confidence in the result -- except that you have a fixed allotment of points for the entire playoffs rather than week to week. That is, there are 11 total playoff games over the four rounds, so you have to use each of your 11 point values one time for each game. Also, you don't have to make all your picks in advance; you can change each pick right up to the moment that game kicks off. I like that because it introduces an element of strategy; last year, I expected Pats to win, but I realized picking the Eagles was the best opportunity for me to leapfrog the folks ahead of me, so I did and won the whole thing.

Anyway, looking at this weekend's wildcard games, no match-up is jumping out at me. Three of the games have spreads of only a couple points. Bears are the biggest favorites, but even that is hardly a lock. So I'm thinking of using mostly my lower point values, particularly because I'm picking a couple upsets (LAC/Indy). The one game I can't get a handle on is Dallas-Seattle. Leaning Dallas, but I don't feel good about it.

So here are my (tentative) picks:

  • Indy over Houston (2pts)
  • Dallas over Seattle (3pts)
  • LAC over Baltimore (1pt)
  • Bears over Eagles (6pts)
If anyone else is participating in one of these, would be curious to hear how you're approaching it.

I'm going for a little bit of wow factor here as there is very little originality so far in this thread.

Saints would play Cowboys in this scenario. Bears play Rams.

Colts can't play the Pats Rd 2

my stab...

Texans over Colts (the one I'm least confident in)

Ravens over Chargers (Rivers will find a way to do something dumb)

Seahawks over Cowboys (not betting against Russell Wilson in the playoffs against a QB like Dak)

Bears over Eagles (would be an amazing story if Foles could pull it off again, but I think the Bears D crushes him)

Chiefs over Ravens (I think Lamar Jackson's great rookie run ends here)

Pats over Texans (would LOVE for the Pats to lose but, ugh, they have so much experience in tough situations)

Saints over Seahawks (Saints feeling like a well-rounded monster this year)

Rams over Bears (great O and D beats great D)

Chiefs over Pats (please just end the possibility that the Pats could win another one)

Saints over Rams (this game will be epic)

Saints over Chiefs (Brees' experience beats the young QB on the biggest stage)
