IIRC he started or dug up an old thread about Big Mouth last week and bemoaned the fact that there wasn't a currently active one.  He was right about that, it is awesome, although since it's a netflix show the discussion was mostly in that thread.

I miss the old discussions of TV shows, they were one of my favorite things about the FFA. But I'm pretty sure they're a victim of streaming and DVR killing the "water cooler" discussion of shows except for reality TV, Game of Thrones, and to some extent a handful of other limited series that air on HBO or AMC.  Hard to have a good thread about Stranger Things or Narcos or Handmaid's Tale or Homecoming when everyone watches them at different times.

The Lost thread was fantastic as that show happened.

In the olden days of having to wait a week for a new show.  I love netflix and binge watching and so on...but like the GOT aspect where you still have an episode and a week to digest and discuss.

That's a good point.  I am debating whether to watch the new season of True Detective weekly or just wait until it ends and binge it.  A couple of years ago, that would not have been a option for me.

Yeah, no doubt that streaming and binging have ruined those shows where that is an option. No one wants to post spoilers so people just give an overall opinion of the show and that's it.

The only shows that seem to work for thread discussions are serial format shows that air on actual networks instead of streaming.  Also they have to be popular enough that most people watch them within 48 hours so they don't have to worry about spoilers or just because they're excited to see what happens next. The only ones I can think of right now that fit that mold are GoT, True Detective, Better Call Saul, Westworld and maybe The Good Place and This is Us (? I don't watch it). They all have threads I believe.

damn- this is spot on. makes our usual weekly series threads really hard to post to. netflix, amazon... hard to discuss these when some people have watched the entire series in a day, while others take months. IIRC, hulu releases episodes per week- so still an option with those.

but there are still a few basic cable shows still talked about. twd, for all of it's death-rattles, still provides some laughs. GoT. ... I'm sure there a couple others.

Also Succession should have been on my list.  Most entertaining show on TV. Get it together people.

Best thread ever when it was early in the show. I think GOT is the only other show that captured me like Lost. Having the week of discussion in here with all the Internet Easter eggs was awesome. That show did a fantastic job of keeping mysteries and new ideas like the flashbacks and flash forward. I had just gotten my first Bigscreen HDTV 65” sweet Mitsubishi and had it in my basement with Dish network’s HD receiver (no HD DVR yet). I had a 3 year old and a newborn but that show was my 1 hour by myself in a pitch black room blasting the 5.1 sound. Simple things.

HBO show about the family of an uber-wealthy man that runs a powerful media conglomerate a la Rupert Murdoch. It's not lifestyle porn though- everyone in the family is completely miserable in their own fascinating ways. Starts a little slow, you might even be bored for the first couple episodes, but after that it's incredibly entertaining. It's not The Wire, prob not gonna win a pile of Emmys, but it's one of those shows where the hour flies by and you can't get enough. There's a thread around here somewhere, although half of it is me telling people to watch it.

Okay, I am going to post in this thread about a new tv show that is possibly the worst...I mean absolutely the worst show made. I am talking about The Masked Singer.

My wife was so excited for whatever reason to watch this steaming pile and so I said okay, I will bite. For those unfamiliar with this show. there are 12 stars/celebrities that dress in these really stupid costumes that hide their face with six of them matched up against one another each week in a singing contest and the crappiest one of them is sent home each week and (gasp) unmasked.

Four of the worst possible judges comment as they sing and offer such gems as “Is it Justin Timberlake? I think it is Lady Gaga. NO, it is Celine Dion.”  Their comments make this show so bad it is unbelievable.

They either offered lots of $$ or free meth to the studio audience because every time they cut to them, it is amazing—just amazing how excited they are to hear these losers sing.

Here is the ultimate insult, the so called celebs are B maybe C actors and singers with some football players sprinkled in. The person voted off this week was Chong from Cheech and Chong and yet the judges wondered if it was JT or (yes this was actually said) President Obama.

i know the guy from Sharknado is probably one of them as well as Donny Osmond.

I have no words how this got made for US tv. I understand it was big in Korea but they had actual stars on their show.

This is another for me...as my kids have gotten older but still not driving age, they are involved in activities at school in the evenings.

And they stay up later...making our real tv watching window much shorter for my wife and I.

We are typically a week or so behind on even the 30 minute comedies we like...and usually more so on the 1 hour shows (currently this is us...and further behind on the Good Doctor).

By time I watch a current episode, the discussions are usually done and avoid the threads for spoilers of some of those other shows that may have them.

watched week one...probably wasn't going to watch week 2...but might now for the comedy factor of Chong being mistaken for those people (and better if I "guess" it right and my wife doesn't know I already know).

Concept was ok...execution was really bad.

But hey you get Nick Cannon.

Now, the first week of Americas Got Talent "champions" was really good.  Other than that crapass Susan Boyle getting the golden buzzer when she should have been bottom 2 or so out of the 10.  The russian got talent sword swallower guy was incredible.

Thanks. I'll reciprocate by offering an old show to watch in case you missed it. Check out Halt and Catch Fire.

i think the big problem is that after sons of anarcrhry there was no reason to make other television shows becuase the summit had been reached sure they still throw some crap together but it is just to have something to draw advertisers nirvana has been achieved and its avaialable streaming take that to the samcro bank brochachos

I'm a TV addict. Posted before, but check out the TV Time app if you are like me and want to keep your library of viewing between TV and streaming services organized.

Binged this last week and I agree it was really well done.  I think Patricia Arquette deserves some awards for her role.

But it would be misguided if you want to watch it because Patricia was so hot as Alabama in True Romance.

About a year ago I mentioned that I wished Netflix would release some shows weekly for this reason and I got absolute eviscerated around here for it.

I believe Netflix floated the idea publicly at one point as well and got equally destroyed.
