*Official 2019 Philadelphia Eagles Thread* - Season's over; Go Away Now... (4 Viewers)

I’m good with the lower number. He’s declining but it allows time for Mailata to develop and learn from a HOF player and saves money in the process.
I'm good with it. Lower cap and really there was no great options yet. Are we really going to trust Mailata or Big V to protect our Franchises blind side unless we move Lane over and put one of those guys at RT? Plus it's not like when Peters plays he's hurting the team. Yes he's declined but his lost one step is better then 98% of the LTs in this league losing one step. Plus like you said other get to learn from a First ballot HOF player

Not really.

Graham, Long (guess this means he’s staying?) and Barnett all underachieved last year. The 4th DE would be Sweat who didn’t look good at all when he played. Bennett looked good, seemed like a good scheme fit and didn’t cause any issues. It is what it is but I wish they could have found a way to keep him another year.

Also  Here’s Howie’s history of 5th round picks since being GM:

2010- Rickey Sapp & Riley Cooper

2011- Dion Lewis & Julian Vandervelde

2012- Dennis Kelly

2013- Earl Wolff

2014- Taylor Hart & Ed Reynolds

2015- None

2016- Wendell Smallwood & Big V

2017- Shelton Gibson & Nate Gerry

2018- None

Maybe he’s due? Or maybe we just got a meaningless pick. I know some of these were Chip years too or there was a question of who made the picks him or Reid. Even if you pick the best 3 of this group it’s bad.
I don't think anyone expects guys from the 5th-7th to become starters. Hell who expected Brady to be better then all those other guys.

Cooper was good for what he did. He played teams well was a very good Run blocker and overall blocker at WR and made some catches. Can't ask for more from a depth player

Wolff I thought was decent but didn't he get slowed by an Injury or something and never seemed the same player?

Dion Lewis was IMHO the next Sproles. He was also Shady's Back Up. I don't think like many during that time Lewis was properly used and NE used him the way he should've been There's talk Tenn could release him and the Eagles could be interested in a Reunion

Big V was crucial to our SB run. He's a decent depth guy spot starting Swing Tackle.

Not saying we missed on a lot but there were some decent picks in there that helped the depth or if used better could've amounted to more. Sometimes your signings and picks are only as good as the guy who knows what to do with them on the field

Just got an alert that DJax is being released.

Funny, I feel like we happen to be in the market for a speed guy...
We are and he wants to comeback. I thought I posted this last night but when I got on here I still saw I had the post being made and didn't finish typing it. Tim McManus and another reporter I guess from TB have reported TB is looking to Trade or Release Jackson and he wants to comeback to Philly. I know a lot of fans weren't big on him but even if you didn't like the guy you have to agree he got a raw deal when leaving and DeSean knows the current guys aren't responsible for that and the smear and defamation campaign article written after he was cut that later everyone figured out had so many holes the media stopped referring to the article. He was fairly productive when here and last year I believe led the league in YPC at over 18 still. He's older now but if he comes in cheap it'd be sure fun to see Wentz and Him hooking up and maybe bring back some of the fun memories that DeSean and McNabb provided on occasion. Plus Dougie P trying to utilize guys the best they can in certain ways to get his playmakers the ball. Not only that but he's still a fairly good return guy.

Another player that would've made Sense TB might trade or release is Gerald McCoy but now with the Jackson signing I don't see staking McCoy

I doubt there's any serious interest from the Eagles on CJ Mosley. He's looking at top-5 money at his position, and a position the Eagles don't seem to value for investing big money.

Not to mention it would also likely cancel out the Foles comp pick
Plus I think Mosely is more of a 3-4 LB anyway

There's still a lot of talk of OBJ being gone from NYG. One less WR we have to worry about but really why should we worry about Giant WRs when they need someone to get them the Ball? Matt Miller just reported SF signed LB Kwon Alexander but aren't done yet and OBJ is still very possible.

He's also making almost 4 million a year more than Bennett did, and isn't as versatile. Jackson wasn't a bad signing, I just really don't understand why they traded Bennett.
didinger mentioned this weekend that bennett had a foot issue that kept him from practicing most of the time.  i know that he still produced and i was surprised they got rid of him, but they may have been concerned about making sure to get rid of him slightly too early rather than risk doing it too late.

Foles looks like he's signing with Jacksonville for 21-22 million per for four years. Good for him. Definitely a class act.  I hope he is awesome with them and that's who we beat in the Super Bowl. A true Philly legend.
I'm not a fan of the Jags giving him that kind of money for a guy who's been inconsistent throughout his career and never has played a full season but Good on Nick getting that deal.

Lot of buzz about LeVeon Bell potentially going to SF.  Would love to make a play for Breida if it actually goes down.
There's a lot of talk that the eagles prefer Coleman over Bell too.

Jackson coming back probably signals the end of the Nelson Agholor era.
I'm indifferent on Nelly at this point. Should've never been drafted by Us to begin with. Rather traded down and taken TJ Yeldon or Landon Collins at the time. I appreciate what he did in the SB run but he's always been so inconsistent.

I have really missed desean.  I hated him when he was on the Redskins but I'm ready to love him again!
I'm still mad at Chip for letting him go. Never should've happen. I hated that he went to Washington but I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy every time DeSean Burned the Eagles when Chip was on the Sideline and whipping that smug look on his face.

Greg Aumen reporting just a pick swap Eagles get 7th Bucs a6th this years draft

Mortenson says DeSean gets $13 Gauranteed in Restructured deal

Bleeding Green has it as well as others. also D Gunn

League source tells me the eagles gave a 2019 6th round pick and a 2020 7th round pick to get Desean Jackson
Did I hear it wrong, I think we get the 7th back in 2020? Not a big djax guy but we got our deep threat as long as he doesn’t lose a step.

FORMER EAGLE RB Frank Gore is signing with the Bills

Lions also signed a former Eagle in Danny Amendola who I read from some people the Eagles could've been interested in

As expect with the signing Jags are gonna release Blake Bortles. Theres been some writing that maybe the Eagles take a chance on him and bring him in on a one year prove it and competition for Suddy

Our friends the Rams just keep getting richer on the DL resigning Dante Fowler

Like I posted Earlier the Giants are still discussing trading their Diva WR

DeSean Jackson's reworked deal is now a 3yrs extension for $27M

yeah you heard wrong it's a swap of picks this year. We gave up a 6th this year for a 7th. I don't know the exact picks though

Also Super Fan Shaun Young who I'm friends with on The Facebook saw DeSean at an autograph signing in Valley Forge Casino not even a week ago. Was talking to DeSean who gave him a big grin and wink when Young asked if he wanted to comeback to Philly and would he if they were interested. Sounds like Jackson knew then he was on his way back here. Shaun posted that little story about 3 hrs before the trade went down BTW.

I really timed this "vacation" well. Work told me to take a week off (didn't do anything bad just that there were other Vacations coming up and I had 1week and a half of vacation time take a week before others did) and I put in for this week simple because my pop-pop's birthday would've been Sunday if he were still alive. But I totally forgot FA started this week too

DJ is a nice addition to the offense, and I get to pull his Jersey out of the depths of the closet, but I'm not so sure he's really worth 10 million a year. Kinda feel we could find that production elsewhere for less.

I think I'm OK with it, but just. More intrigued by the Malik move, and happy with re-signing Peters at a more cap-friendly number

Jeff McLane reported that Nelly is gonna stay an Eagle for now. Might take a big offer to pry him out of their reach but he also said don't rule out a restructure

It does feel like Howie is walking a tight rope this off-season. He's gearing up for another title run while trying to preserve cash for the future. They will pay Carson next year and he has to get talent in here but can't overspend. I don't think Leveon is coming and I'm fine with that. As long as they restore the lines in the draft and hopefully get some hits else where, I'll be cool with this off-season. A healthy Carson with a real deep threat opens up everything for Ertz, Alshon, Dallas and company.

Yeah no way we go for bell.  We need Coleman or Ingram to pair with another rb in the draft though
After watching where the money is going I’m actually afraid they only draft RB’s and if they sign someone it will be a lesser known guy or one that’s been on FA a while who we didn’t expect. Just please don’t bring back Sproles.

Details still to come, but hoping the DJax deal is more like a 2-year commitment, as far as money/cap. Main concern is his health. He's missed almost 4 games a year the last 4 seasons, mostly with injuries that relate to, and affect, his speed. At 32, those types of things increase, not decrease. Will probably see him taking a lot "veteran days" during the week this season.

I agree. I'd love to get Coleman to go along with the other new additions. That would be a great offseason, IMO.  And then linebacker and defensive backfield help in the draft.

Honestly, I think Howie should just wait until the dust dies down from the first wave of FA and sign the best name left on the cheap. One of Ingram / Coleman / Yeldon / Ware / Johnson will probably get $5M a season and one will get $1.7M, and I don't think any of them are 3x better than any other.
