Mark Harris and North Carolina election fraud: New election now looks likely (1 Viewer)

Not sure I get this - per CNN result page, Robeson went 50.3 to 49.2 to McCready.
It was big news last fall when McCready won the county by 15-16 points....almost as shocking as seeing him win Mecklenburg this time around.  He won by a lot less which means something....I suspect that's what they are getting at.  However, the news here should be that Dems are winning in places like that...times have changed quickly it seems.

MCcready lost ground there vs 2018 (when he wont by 15%)
Yeah, I just updated my post - I was reading what was said here and assumed that it wasn’t that spread.  But if you look at 2016 it went 50-46 Trump so to me that 15 pt gap says something about the guy they got rid of.  Tough to really read it based on all the factors.  I still think Trump team can’t be optimistic but neither can the Dems since they lost.

TIL what Robeson County is.  Key for winning the state in 2020 is going to be turnout in the cities/suburbs.  Not there.
So a very high level recap of last night's events looks like this.  The GOP cut into the Dem lead in the rural, less populated areas, closing the gap where the potential for growth is smaller (still baffles me that a Dem could lead/win in an area like this at all).  The Dem cut into (or won) where the GOP has lead for decades (in heavily populated, rich, white areas where many votes are still up for grabs).

This county really came down to pork for the local tribe.  No real takeaways from it:

Dave Wasserman

@Redistrict

A possible reason I'm hearing from Dems as to why there was a massive pro-GOP swing in Robeson Co.: in March, state Sen. Dan Bishop (R) sponsored a bill to open up more grant opportunities to Lumbee tribe. Looks like it paid off.

Ummm, I'm gonna need you to go ahead and vote tomorrow. So if you could be there around 9 that would be great, mmmk.

Wow. Surprise attack on Democracy while Dems where away at 9/11 ceremony. Assured them no action would be taken.

I'd call that dispicable but its a insult to the word dispicable.

There is literally no bottom for conservative politicians. Any means, legal or not, ethical or not. Absolutely taking a blowtorch to democracy. And a bunch of ####### flag wavers too.

That's why the flag humpers always make me nervous.

NCGOP has been using their gerrymandered supermajority to do this stuff for years.

Nobody got this joke. :kicksrock:

So Mccready:

Never mentioned Trump.

Never mentioned impeachment.

Never mentioned immigration.

Never mentioned the Green New Deal.

Never mentioned Medicare for All.

He spent most of his time talking about making healthcare more affordable by improving Obamacare. Now, none of this prevented the Republicans from labeling him a socialist anyhow, from claiming he was for Open Borders, the Green New Deal, all of it. And that worked with the rural folks, who in this district were decisive, apparently. But it did not work with suburban voters. Which begs the question: suppose McCready had been a Liz Warren clone, pushing for Medicare for All and the Green New Deal? I believe that, rather than lose by 2 points, he would have been trounced.

Will the Democrats get the message?

All that tells me is that the rural voters will believe whatever the GOP tells them even if it’s not true. Something I already knew from their continued support of Trump.

You’re really stretching to making an anti-Warren point. The flip side is that maybe this platform didn’t work and a more progressive one would have driven more people to polls and led to the Democrat winning.

You could also read this as:  What is the point of running to the center if these lies will just be told about you anyways?  Better to have someone that inspires the base.

I feel like this is the complete opposite of reality. Republicans will call the bluest blue dog the most liberal ever, so moving to the center gains you 0 Republican votes, while it will lose you votes from more left democrats. Alternatively, maybe going full leftist would have won him the election. We will never know, but it is no more of a wild guess than your assumption.

McCready lost while:

Never mentioned Trump.

Never mentioned impeachment.

Never mentioned immigration.

Never mentioned the Green New Deal.

Never mentioned Medicare for All.

So I guess the lesson learned is do the opposite and mention those things.
