2019 Free Agent Signing Thread (1 Viewer)

Even though the Colts have the most money to spend it just isn't Ballard's way.  I do hope he signs at least one big name FA, preferably either at WR or defense.  More than likely he will just sign some tier 2 or 3 free agents to plug holes here and there.  Nothing earth shattering.

Negotiations begin in about 5 minutes.

IIRC, the first day was kind of light last year but it has been a year so may not be remembering correctly.

Trent Brown signing with Raiders per Shefter. Have to think this takes them out of Bell hunt, if they were in it

And Trent Brown will be the highest paid OL in history per Shefter
Rapoport confirming as well:

Details on the #Raiders impending deal for OT Trent Brown: 4 years for $66M and $36,750,000 fully guaranteed, source said.

Edit: Solder got 4 for $62M & 34.8M guaranteed last year.

The Pats should get their 3rd back as a comp pick

Don't understand how it's possible to come to terms on a contract within 9 minutes of the tampering period being opened.
For sure can't see who them letting that cat out of the bag that quickly can't lead to scrutiny from league office but not sure they really care.

Pats and Ravens run the best racket out there when it comes to comp picks. Grab guys at the end of deals. Plug and play them in their system for a year. Play in a Superbowl. Then let them sign elsewhere for uber bucks, hampering another team with an overpaid player and collecting a 3rd rounder for themselves. Rinse, repeat, year after year.

That’s the real Patriot way. Well that and having an all time great at head coach and qb. Send the rubbish off to be overpaid and “compete” against them. Coaches and players both.

Per Rapoport: "Bills are expected to add free agent CB Kevin Johnson, source said, giving them a former first-rounder in the secondary. The deal is pending a final review of the contract."

Former 1st rounder is about the only good thing you can say about him. He was constantly injured for the Texans the last two years, his sophomore season before that PFF rated him the worst starting corner in the league.

With Nate Solder's contract as a template last year wouldn't be too hard for them to come to an agreement in principal pretty quick.

Will be interesting to see who the first safety is that is signed, it is a loaded market. Some reports say Mathieu was offered $9.5M per by the Texans but wants more, other reports saying Earl Thomas is looking for $30M over 2 years which seems insane.

Source tells me Greg Olsen is taking the ESPN job.  During the Combine Ron Rivera said that Olsen told him he wants to keep playing football. That was before the Jason Witten news though...

The #Lions are closing in on a deal with former #Seahawks CB Justin Coleman that will make him the NFL's highest-paid nickel, source said. Big addition for Matt Patricia's defense.

A lot of money for a guy coming off an ACL and didn’t play particularly well before that.
Covers a lot of grass and has been the "leader" of the NFL's perennial doormat defense.  Wow.  Bucs' fans are not sad to see him go, and we only have one worthwhile LB on the roster.

Sources: Former #Giants star S Landon Collins is signing a 6-year deal for a whopping $84M with the rival #Redskins. Hard to imagine a box safety with this kind of deal after last year’s slow safety market. This moves the market dramatically.

Is this one really happening?

WILL BRINSON: That's more than every single free agent safety made last year combined.

Ridiculous if true, are they moving him to linebacker? Reports were WASH was shopping a couple of LB'ers this morning.

They are mentioned as well, but Collins fits the Colts better than anyone else and Ballard needs to spend some of that money that ISN'T burning a hole in his pocket.   I believe Collins would be the highest profile FA would go after.  Ballard tends to only go after lesser free agents.

ETA - Just read bicycle_seat's post.  They can have him at that ridiculous price.

He’s signing with Wash. It’s done.

Good to see there is now the Patriots North team to go along with the Patriots South and Patriots Central teams. LOL.
