*** Official Pete Buttigieg Thread *** (2 Viewers)

Shoot.  That was the last chance for youth in this election.  Now we're guaranteed a president starting their term in their 70s.  It's difficult to look towards the future when most septuagenarians can't grasp the technology of today's world and how fast it's growing and changing the planet.

Wow never seen an overhyped candidate from South Bend let fans down before.
Should have known with all the overhyped players that have done it.

He's still just getting started though.  Too much in this political game to not keep playing it at some level.  Still going to wear my shirt dammit!

Yup.  By the same age that Pete is today, Bernie had basically spent all his time as a protestor, an “independent filmmaker”, and a carpenter.  He wasn’t elected Mayor of Burlington until he was 40 years old.  So Pete has a lot of time left to accomplish a ton, build support for future candidacies, etc.

Rumored that Sanders surrogate Waleed Shahid got a random voicemail from Buttigieg in this now deleted tweet, where Buttigieg says he wants to 'share some news about his plans' with the 'vice president'.

Someone got an offscreen recording of the message- the VM, sent at 4:56, sounds just like him.  The 'breaking news' was posted around 6:00pm.  It appears that Pete, for whatever reason, really did want to keep Biden in the loop.

Makes sense.  Biden, like Pete, is a member of the Democratic Party.

As someone late to support to him, I guess this was inevitable as soon as I signed on. The death knell had sounded, apparently. I hope the process hasn't damaged him, and that he's able to come back a stronger person and an even better politician than he is now.

I don't think it's damaged him at all.  If anything, he's gotten stronger as this thing has gone on.

His speech last night was perhaps his best of the campaign

Edit: whoops, wrong link.

Good stuff. He really is naturally eloquent. Or practice makes perfect. Either way, he speaks very well. Even boilerplate stuff sounds good.

eta* That's funny about the link. I think I got the gist. First his husband spoke, then he did.

Yeah, CNN didn't exactly show the best parts of his speech (but they did show the great parts of his husband's)

What a charmer.  What a ‘progressive’.

Maybe he's not as progressive as you'd like him to be -- he seems to exude more the demeanor of a early sixties civics professor than a tear-it-down black star anarcho-socialist -- but that doesn't make him less charming or inauthentic about big "D" Democratic values.

I mean, was he supposed to stay in the race but dress up as a cheerleader for Bernie?  Pete wasn’t my guy. I thought he sounded like a suburban Barack Obama cover band.

But Jesus, Bernie supporters make it hard.

You know what always works? Getting people onto your side in an election by insulting their candidate after he drops out.  It's a proven winner.

I honestly don’t care what happens to Bernie.  Vote for Biden if you want!  It just bothers me that Mayor Pete was hailed as a ‘new age’ politician with bold ideas, while clearly being a careerist sellout with zero interest in anything other than serving the Dem establishment.

He was running originally as a progressive, then slowly morphed into a centrist.  He’s an establishment billionaire candidate, he represents the status quo, that’s all he ever represented.  And yet people are still so easily swooned by the empty ridiculous platitudes and Obama mimicry.  Sorry but it’s aggravating that people still don’t see this stuff for what it is.

One of Indiana's Senate seats is up in 2022.  Gonna pay way less that anything private, but gives Pete more Washington exposure.

I mean, you’d hope that if Pete represented some kind of systemic change to Washington’s power structure, he wouldn’t just fall in line behind it to suit his own personal ambitions.  It’s not about Sanders.  It’s about working on behalf of entrenched power while marketing himself as the ‘small town rust belt middle america’ guy.  It’s extremely cynical.
