Well, no Balcony Belmont today!

Just watched the Acorn and the jockey of the 9 (3rd fave) sat a perfect balcony trip - the absolute way to win Belmont's long one-turn races - and not only did she not pick up & put down the winner, she couldnt pick up an inch on the dying rabbit (21, 43 breaks) in the stretch.

I'm switching to the other Pletcher horse, Spinoff, w the the three Tapits boxed under. If the speed bias holds, even Joevia has to be factored into the exotics. The Met Mile should tell a lot, so will give a bias update then.
wik doin' work - much obliged.

i am still at my daughter's recital dress rehearsal- sneakin' in and out after she finishes her numbers - will be in the clear by 6 or so  :deadhorse:

best of luck - but friggin' BW should be running at Parx today, not Big Sandy - easy toss, if he beats me i'll eat MoCS hat
BW got Mike Smith on board so I can't quit him. I like the three Tapit horses here, plus Tax, Spinoff, Sir Winston.

WoW, Everfast, Master Fencer, not so much, but I've got a trifecta box to hedge.

Met Mile,  how is speed holding up?
13 mins to post ... got Firenze Fire on top - gonna be a great one w/McKinzie and Mitole on his ### - i'm locked in now - free to watch unencumbered

ETA: Thunder Snow gonna factor with this speed bias if it holds

Mitole stalked, 'Kinzie closed - Mitole for the win ... Thunder Snow made a late move, got held up in traffic, finished third - i decided to key Thunder Snow

awaiting results

ETA: returned $28 - chalky mofos on top, just glad to recoup sumtin' from the Irish speedster

Freaking Chad Brown has 4 of the 10 in this turf race. Box them all!

1 3 7 8

i got our backs - ditching Tac as key as of now, i'm a smoker, and i know how mucus affexts energy expenditures .

.. wanna luv Tax, but the foot thing ...

WoW is solid.

Sir Barton may be too deep to close, if he presses with this bias, he may be knocked outta his game.

BW can #### off

Joevia has bias in his favor.

the 2 may have wadded in Baltimore.

the 3 is a gimpy invader.

so, SPINOFF will be the key.

Balcony dead - once again in the Met Mile, circlers could not even pick up the dead speed in the stretch and the only moves were inside and early (which would move up the Preakness winner unless, like i, you think he's a dead piece) and the winner was a speed horse stretching out (tho he may be that good). If you're not right on it at the quarter pole, you daid.

so track was playing fast yesterday ... bodes well for the pressers/stalkers - dunno how much of a cushion closers like Sir Winston can give if that holds today ... Tac and WoW and Tax and Signoff gonna draft Joevia for 2 minutes, then they will be in great position as the speedster fades ... and i'll be damned if i am intrigued on leaving that lil' ##### on my tix now - speed kills, and he's got it - no way he wins or even places, but ya gotta take the chance underneath for show dough and to bottom out tris/supers - still think him and BW are the easiest tosses if i had to wager right now, but ... this is a very muddled crop - i mean, who in the flyin' #### saw Everfast placing in Pimlico?

meh, cat will most likely finish OTM and way up the track, but - butbutbut - but
*rips up tix*

PSA - If you're ever at Pocono Downs ( Mohegan Sun) the only place to get a good cocktail is out by the track.

Man I suck at capping, but a fun day!

Let's bet pacers !!

say it with me -

the best lookin' animal outta the Peter Pan (Sir Winny)

the best lookin' horse coming in (Tacitus)

the controlling speed on a track playing to his bias wheelhouse (Joevia)

sometimes we make this game harder than it need be - hindsight is a mutha trukkin' nasty mistress - we serve her all too well.

it's been a run - very disappointed in yesterday's finality - chucked the house money right out the winnderrr - back to domestic brewkis, and we summer in the Catskills instead of Shannon/Ennistynom (hi, wik).

new shoes for daddy on hold - guess i wrap the tootsies in wonder bread sleeves when it rains - and it'll be the flowbee trims as my longtime stylist knocks me for fitty on the reg.

i don't like this losing shtick, but this gig is predicated on it, in'nit?  hell, Ty Cobb was a career .367 hitter, greatest of all time in that respect, a record that will never be broken - but that "greatness" carried a back end of .633 failure rate - don't think i'm hitting at that kinda clip this year - the big scores have evened me out cash wise, prolly still a few shekels ahead the game atm - but yesterday was a monumental whiff -

of all the words of tongue or pen/these four are saddest: it might have been

:bye:

Keyed Tacitus with Tax, War of Will, Sir Winston, and Intrepid Heart. F'n Joevia. All he had to do was fade like he was supposed to and I would have cashed a pretty nice ticket.

On the plus side, it was a great day hanging with my brothers. Got completely hammered and a very slimmed down Yngwie was throwing gas all night. Also threw a guitar pick right into my beer from 20 yards away. I'm pretending he intended to do it.

@wikkidpissah

Suffolk Downs is shutting down for good, demolition slated for July 1st ... i've never been, but i've heard some great stories about the place - Boston's Aqueduct, so it seems.  whatcha got? surely a few wikkism nuggets were gleaned at the Downs, no?

certainly not as marquee a gig as it once was, but the imminent razing is another wretched cog in the emblematic wheel of doom this industry is suffering - it's not dying, per se - it's ####### dead.

the TC races generate enough buzz, sure - and the KD ranks at the top of premier sporting events of the Spring - but we hear the death knell tolling ... it's faint, but persistent - always in our ear, foreboding and reckoning.

the 30 some odd deaths at Santa Anita over the Winter meet cranked it up even more - looks like the whip will now be altered to a sturdy foam contraption, if not banned altogether - chipping away more of the veneer.  i'm all for safety first for the animals/jocks - but mandated regulation is akin to yer nuts being squeezed in a vise - the pain is gonna get much worse.

Hollywood Park demolition was the real harbinger that we may not last past this decade - it's already niche as ####, but it's sliding and careening so recklessly ... gonna go the way of the leisure suit and formulaic sitcoms - trite, trivial, relegated to the dustbin of Americana.

meet me at the Regal Beagle.

I'm guessing that the very top tracks will survive and a few middle types if they simulcast and have casinos attached.  But the bottom places will get sold for the land value and the game will march on in truncated form. Fewer tracks and fewer races at those tracks that do survive.

would love to see this happen - consolidation is crucial to survival - concentrate on a select number of regional supertracks ... larger cards/fields, better regulation - more cohesion and consistency.

this has been on the wish list since forever - attrition will have to see it to fruition, because the common sense urgency has obviously never been served. do or die.

but i feel the real danger is gonna be from outside interests - the bullhorns are aplenty out there - i dread a cacophonous call to cancel all we love about this sideshow - yeah, i'm talking about activists and do gooders ... the slightest smudges can now be exacerbated into cataclysmic affronts by those who wield the social mediaz hammer - it's gonna get ugly.

An outsider's opinion because I love this thread (even though it reads like Greek without translation) and can't resist?

There have been activists for a long time against horse racing. I remember it as a kid and up through young adulthood. Lori Petty's spokespersonship was met with social outrage, and this was a long time before social media. Saratoga always had its protestors. I'm not in the game, but always followed the sports pages, back to front, and racing was part of them. Nowadays, you rarely hear about fathers and sons or writers at the track.

It's sort of dying a slow death anyway, the animal rights aspect of it only a part, though a growing one.
