Trumps Talent Spotting Skills.... (1 Viewer)

Disclaimer- Serious question for the pro-Trump crowd, this is not intended to be a Trump bashing thread, please refrain if that is your only intent.

With the recent Rex Tillerson report out about how prepared Trump was for his meeting with Putin Trump has responded, as he has multiple times in the past when referring to past people he has personally picked for positions, by called them “low IQ” or “dumb”.  Assuming what he is saying is true are you at all considered with his ability to pick qualified people for these important positions within our government?

Trump supporters don't care and even applaud this kind of nonsense.  He has them completely mesmerized.  It's legit bizarre.
Which is still strange since the excuse for his complete lack of experience and government and foreign policy knowledge was that he would hire such great people.

That’s a fair and accurate statement. As a person who has spent most of his adult life hiring managers and leaders I’ve had my share of misses.  Though I do think Trumps swing in miss rate is extraordinarily high.

With that said, based on hiring hundreds of mangers and leaders over the last 20 years I don’t think I’ve ever after firing one of then thought it was because they were dumb. I think thats pretty clear and easy to vent out in the hiring process.

With Trump being a 72-year-old extremely experienced businessman wouldn’t it be safe to assume the same of him?

He's a home run hitter, expect a lot of strike outs.  Only problem is he still hasn't hit a home run (maybe Barr you could say if you are a major Trump supporter as he seems willing to protect his guy at all cost).

How many of his staff have been fired for being duds and/or later indicted as criminals?

He has picked his share, and several other’s share of duds.

Sure.  Even the smartest most adept people tweet about how stupid their former handpicked employees are.

Trump cul...supporters will excuse literally all but one thing when it comes to trump.  And that thing rhymes with giving amnesty to illegals or daca kids.

In fairness to Trump, the pool of talent he has to pick from is likely much smaller than any other president before him.   Working in this administration is something that could do irreparable damage to your career.

I've really liked his NASA head pick, Jim Bridenstine. There was some heavy scrutiny of him at the outset, but I've liked what he's done to promote NASA

Just how big a "share" are we talking here?

I'd say the Dud to No-Dud ratio is well north of 10-1 - if we are looking at the number of people who have come and gone in this administration.

I mean - if you had to pick the "worst" cabinet pick - there are at least a half-dozen worthy candidates - just to be the "worst.

Off the top of my head:

Carson, DeVos, Perry, Sessions, Acosta, Zinke, Mnuchin all come to mind.

Who's this?

Haven't read the thread, but I envy Trump's eye for talent.

I was going to make a top 10 list, but then I realized I didn't know where to start... supermodels, playmates, porn stars, miss USA and Universe contestants.

Really as impressive a pool of talent as I have ever seen.

Really surprised it took this many posts to get this reply.  I fully expected it within the first 5.  His work here really is top tier

What is your beef with these ones?
I’ll take Devos- she has no education experience and has been the main funder and architect of the Michigan education system for about 20 years. Since then the Michigan public school system has tanked while the charter for profit system she championed has been found to be the most corrupt in the country.  Just go through her thread to see all the issues.

As for Rick Perry, he has no related energy experience.

Our acting Secretary of Defense had 0 military experience before Trump appointed him.

He is incapable of making any real personal connections with damn near anyone.  Thus him being a horrendous/worst evaluator of talent and judgement of character isn't surprising.

Some of Trumps appointees duration's from wiki....

  • His tenure was the fourth-shortest in the office's history, excluding interim appointments.
  • Her tenure was the shortest in the office's history, excluding interim appointments.
  • His tenure was the shortest in the office's history.
  • Failed to obtain the security clearance necessary for work on national security issues. Resigned
  • His tenure was the shortest in the office's history.
  • His tenure was the second-shortest in the office's history, excluding interim appointments.
  • His tenure was the shortest in the office's history, excluding interim appointments.
  • Left after less than seven months.
  • His tenure was the shortest in the office's history,
  • is the only Secretary of State since at least 1945 to have been fired.
  • Resigned after less than three months.
  • I'm sure there are more.

And the HUD secretary doesn't know what REO stands for or why it's significant.  That's like a painter not knowing what paint is or what it's used for.

To the OP, he had several "good" (I think the more appropriate word here is reasonable) picks.  They are all the ones that saw everything that was going on and decided to quit.

Sometimes the person you pick falls short of what is required to do his job but it should only take about 10 to 15 seconds in an interview to realize the guy you are interviewing is dumb as a rock. Actually we all know Tillerson is pretty sharp despite the fact it took him several months to realize he had been hired by a moron.

Should be end of thread right here.

no thoughts no .... I have real life issues and have not kept up with anything much in 3 weeks. can't help with any input on any of it
You haven't noticed that most of the President's hires haven't worked out well going back through his entire term as POTUS?

This is what I thought the thread was going to be about for a minute there :D

Any thoughts?  Would like your feedback here. Thanks
Really shocked and disappointed in the lack of response from the crew.  Was looking for some honest feedback and thoughts from the other side of the Trump isle but looks like that’s not in the cards on this issue.

I guess complaining about the not stop Trump bashing is the preferred method of discussion.

As I posted in another thread....stuff like this and actual legislation democrats in the house have passed that McConnell is holding up dont her clicks and responses.

There is no real way of defense there so it goes ignored rather than even trying.

It also shows how hard it is to get actual honest debate and discussion on this board.

A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work.

Ug.  Please don't.

So seeking opinions from the other end of the spectrum on a topic is now fishing?  No wonder civil discourse is a struggle round here.

I specifically outlined in my original post that I didn’t want to turn this in to a Trump bashing tread.  Really wanted views from the “other side”.  Not sure what else I could do.

Unless you meant he creeps the women out, which is odd considering the actual outcomes (his laundry list of conquest with the women you claim he creeps out).
