Not good enough to be a cartoonist, not thoughtful enough about politics to get in on the published essay.
The Times is actually ahead of the game on this; political cartoons are rarely funny, regardless of which side.
Doonesbury by Trudeau, Zippy by Griffith, Bloom County by Breathed, and Non-Sequitur by Wiley were/are the best "front page" sociopolitical cartoons that existed/exist today. Those needed four panels.
