Unbelievable that he goes from that picture to a left-handed shot. There's another shot a little later in the video and it's the same thing. Incredible.

Before people go nuts over this, Simmons has on multiple  outfits and is playing against multiple sets of opponents in the video. So this is clearly a compilation of footage from multiple days at a gym. Sure, the shots and moves in the video are nice, but there could be 100 missed shots not pictured here.

My son has been playing ball for years. I could make a similar video that makes him look like whatever specialist you want in a video. Zion for dunks, Curry for threes, ball handling and getting to the rim like Kyrie, or a shutdown defensive specialist. In reality, he is none of those. But a propaganda piece can make anyone look outerwordly.

I think you misread the vibe of the thread. People are still dumping on Ben for his weird shot .

interesting.  will be for his age 30-32 seasons.  probably a good move for him, since his defense will presumably be even worse.

Yeah, I was going to post that if this is a promotion of "good shooting Ben Simmons" it isn't a good promo.  Shooting an awkward fade away from long 2 isn't what he needs to do to win ballgames.

 
NBA Playoff odds are out.

Is there a safer return on investment than 10% that the Celtics make the playoffs?  The only way that team doesn't make the playoffs is if they lose half the team in a plane crash or some kind of plague like illness.  There isn't a single combo of players that is so crucial to their success that they wouldn't make the playoffs without them.  Even with multiple season ending injuries, I don't see any way they don't at least land the 8 seed.  I think they are a massive longshot to even make it to the ECF, but to not finish in the top half of the East would take an act of God.

Sam Vecenie and Cole Zwicker on Game Theory a few days ago said that they thought Caris Levert would get an extension of 4 for 115 or 120, which kind of blew my mind.

I see @modogg placed a $100K wager for his 76ers to make the playoffs.  Long time to hold all that cash.

And for a 2.5% return (over what...like 9 months?).  You'd be better off paying down your mortgage with that.

That's why I floated the Celtics.  I feel like they are just as much of a sure thing, but with a 10% return over the same time period.

 
Wow, draymond signs extension for 4/100.  I am pretty surprised that he would do that.

with him off the market, restricted free agency is going to be even more interesting next year (and that should make these upcoming rookie extensions interesting as well.  Doubt these players are willing to leave anything on the table in an extension.)

My son is only about an inch shorter than Zion. He’s had several monster jams in actual games, including dunks over defenders  

In pick up games or horsing around in a gym,  he’s had some highlight reel dunks, including a 360 two handed dunk from just inside the free throw line where he brings the ball to his knees and then back over his head. Ten foot rims.

The point was not that he is anywhere near Zion’s level, but through the wonders of video editing he could LOOK like Zion in a highlight montage.

Another random thought.  Surprising that he just signed with rich Paul and that then Paul goes ahead with the extension.  It would sort of make me wonder about which of Paul’s other clients could benefit from green being off the market.  Maybe Marcus Morris, Montrezl Harrell and to a lesser extent dejounte murray, and maybe just maybe AD?  It would seem weird for Davis to engineer his way out of New Orleans just to opt out and go to atl, cle, cha, tor or mem, though I’m sure there are teams who could or would make the room if it meant getting ad.

 
Seems to be an unpopular opinion, but I think the Russell deal was bad and I think most of that Green deal will be too.   :shrug:

Who thinks the Russell deal was good?  

I think the dray deal is pretty good for gsw.  Assuming he stays committed to being in better shape, he will only be like 20% or less of the cap and that is solid.  Horford just got basically the same deal (in terms of guaranteed $$) and he is 4 years older.  I think they are somewhat similar in terms of their uniqueness and ability to fit in so many different schemes.

Love that move from Draymond. Oddly enough I think those three feel like they have a lot to prove. Sign the extension, get it over with, no questions during the season. They're gonna win it all this year

I don’t know, Green is much more of an offensive liability than Horford. In a year or two I suspect Green will be someone who has to pick his spots because he won’t have the athleticism to crank it up on defense all the time.

I'm good with it. He's young, and the Warriors are obviously extremely hamstrung in their ability to get quality players. And with Curry making big money for the next three years, I think they have to keep pushing chips into the middle of the table. Extend Green, max out Thompson even if he's going to miss most of this year, etc. etc.

It's not a perfect fit on the court, but Russell's a creative player, and letting him operate with Curry and Thompson running around/off screens is pure havoc. Or using Russell as a release valve when Curry gets mobbed. Or maybe it'll be a disaster, or maybe he'll get flipped. But yeah, all in.

I think we're also in store for am impressive coaching job from Kerr. I'm sure he's excited to do more teaching and development rather than ego management all year. This will be an interesting season that's for sure.

twas a very Belichickian offseason. two fellas with million-dollar talent and 10-cent heads in DAR & WCS and a kid from a winning program who gained his freshman fifteen (fifty?) not fitting in in Atl. let the culture show them how little actual difference there is between StarBall & team ball. i like it very much, esp if KT comes back by ASB and can handle being the low wing ala KD

 
Lonzo Ball's girlfriend is incredible.   You probably all already knew that but some of us are a little late to the player wife/girlfriend party.

This bums me out.  At least until he signed with the Lakers, I'd been hoping he'd mature and get healthy, and we'd get to see the best version of him as a player over the next couple years.  With Achilles and ACL tears, and his body type, he may struggle just to stay in a rotation going forward.

 
Arg. Is this where James talks Haslem out of retirement? Or will the Lakers ride the Jonathan Williams train...

 
Seems super smart that they are waiting off on starting this World Cup until college football and the nfl starts. Way smarter than running it in the dead of summer with nothing going on. 

 
Joakim Noah seems the best of the over-the-hill, still available, center class.  Of course, he’d have to answer questions to explain calling LeBron and company “Hollywood as hell”.
