Ah okay. So Baltimore and Ferguson happened on Obama's watch because of his policies?
MJSince then, the Justice Department has launched 70 investigations into state and local law enforcement agencies and has negotiated 40 reform agreements, half of which are court-enforced consent decrees. The Obama administration was particularly active with this policy, enforcing 14 consent decrees for troubled police agencies, from Ferguson, Missouri, to Baltimore.
- Fwiw I don't think Obama DOJ should be held blameless for what happened under their watch, before Ferguson IIRC they sort of followed what had been prior DOJ R/D civil rights policy, but these oversight and consent decree measures not only helped reform (I'm in such a city btw) they helped quell things. People want to know and see that something is being done. I also think (just my personal belief) that when PD's know they might get audited and end up with the true PITA that is oversight that they behave better knowing that. It's also my understanding that Trump, especially under Sessions, ended all that. Just my POV, it's meant constructively.
