***EPL 2019-20 Fantasy League*** Games start on Friday! (1 Viewer)

right, so while i agree that the system is working as intended i still think the system is wrong and if we fix it now for next season then nobody will have an issue.

you're right, i apologize. the system is arbitrary insofar that fantrax determines the default positions but they can play 15 games at that position to qualify for that position. i'm looking and a good example of this seems to be Deulofeu. Watford played 395 different formations in the first part of the season, he was a lone striker, second striker, right winger and even attacking mid.
Don't apologize.

And rarely take me seriously.  Watch out for @Sinn Fein though.

I think its a great way to think about the league, and we are never averse to trying to make it better.  We have tweaked scoring a few times to get where we are, and I think if there were an easy way to deal with position eligibility objectively, we would be open to looking at it.

I just don't want to get into a position where I make a judgement call for one player, that is different for someone else, let alone a player involved on my own team.  I figure if we all know the rules are decided by an objective 3rd party, we all make adjustments to how we rate certain players based on where they are eligible.

Looking at the opposite end of the field - Eric DIer comes to mind as a player who has M eligibility, but is clearly playing now (when not suspended) as a D.

In this league Dier is useless as a M, but could have some value as a D.

ok i'll take a stab with whoscored.com and a list of players i think should be changed now for next year and nobody would have a problem:

Sadio Mane LIV https://www.whoscored.com/Players/109915/Show/Sadio-Mané to only F

Marcus Rashford MUN https://snipboard.io/aYSvKy.jpg https://www.whoscored.com/Players/300299/Show/Marcus-Rashford to only F, plays similarly high to Mane

Roberto Firmino LIV https://www.whoscored.com/Players/96182/Show/Roberto-Firmino to only F

Richarlison EVE https://www.whoscored.com/Players/317804/Show/Richarlison to only F

HM Son TOT https://www.whoscored.com/Players/91909/Show/Son-Heung-Min to only F

Anwar El Ghazi AVL https://www.whoscored.com/Players/232261/Show/Anwar-El-Ghazi to only F (if villa stays up lol)

Allan Saint-Maximin NEW https://www.whoscored.com/Players/135891/Show/Allan-Saint-Maximin to only M

Theo Walcott EVE https://www.whoscored.com/Players/13796/Show/Theo-Walcott to only M

Andros Townsend CRY https://www.whoscored.com/Players/71522/Show/Andros-Townsend to only M

players i think it's reasonable to leave as M/F because they don't play as far up:

Jack Grealish, Ayoze Perez, Wilfried Zaha (questionable), Nathan Redmond, Gerard Deulofeu, Lucas Moura, Jesse Lingard

LOL at the idea of anyone drafting Lingard next year......

Some of those will take care of themselves - Mane and Firmino for example will only be listed as F next season.

The "tricky" part is when teams play a 4231 formation.

Rashford is a winger, who happens to play a lot in a 4231, where Martial has been the striker, and thus Rashford gets listed as a M (part of the 3 behind Martial).  He will be listed as M only next year.  (This year he started as F only, and gained M/F status through the year.  (Though Greenwood will be listed as a F next year, and will probably become M/F at some point...)

ASM - will only be M next year

Walcott - will only be M next year

Townsend - M

Richarlison - will only be F

Son - plays AM in a 4231, and occasionally F when Kane is injured.  He will be listed as M only to start the. year.

So, a lot of the issues will resolve themselves with out our involvement, and as long as everyone is aware of the position eligibility - I am ok with some fluke ones getting through.

It looks like the top-3 are set, and probably already in order, though 2 and 3 could shift.

@McBokonon

@Sinn Fein  and/or @TLEF316

Tlef can grab 2nd with a win, and Sinn loss, or outscoring Sinn by 12 points.  Neither team can be caught from behind, so it will be 2nd and 3rd in some order.

4th is @Moe.'s to lose.  If he wins, he gets 4th.

If Moe loses to Tlef - and @Poke_4_Life or @drunken slob win, they would pass moe on Points Scored tiebreaker, Poke has the edge on DS if both win.

Just an FYI:

Rob Harris @RobHarris

Confirmed: Next Premier League season to start on September 12 and finish on May 23

Maybe, just maybe, one of these years I’ll remember fantrax doesn’t default to local time zone. Had a reminder to check lineups and make adjustments at 10:15 central this morning, matches started at 10 😑

might not even matter as the only change I would have made was Fleck for Norwood, and maybe Mahrez for TAA as he was much more likely to come on as a sub. Still got a chance against TLEF though thanks to Tierney

You people should be ashamed of yourselves. McBokonon literally had to google “nutmeg.” He then had to further refine his search to “nutmeg soccer.”

Losing to McBokonon, who is probably going to be able to post again within hours, is disgraceful. Plus he lives on the west coast. Just sad, guys. You lost to an ill-informed idiot.
I thought McBokonon was due back on July 26...

I was off on this - @Moe. , despite sleeping in, had enough points to hold of @drunken slob

Three-way tie for first - @McBokonon held the tie-break with most points.

Sinn did just edge Tlef for 2nd by a little under 4 points.

PM me your paypal addresses, and I will get those to Christo.

Would have lost by .21 still with those changes, so glad it didn’t matter.

Hey! I was up at 7 am today, I just don’t understand how time zones work

4th place gets money? Would it be too complicated to put that towards my entry fee for next year since Christo might be out as our treasurer? My email is noswad315 at gmail

Really fun season, even with the break this year. Don’t think we’ve ever been this congested at the top. Looking forward to the draft. @shader or @DJackson10 let me know if you want to co-manage with me next year

Special baking for fussball?

If Christo will be back - I'll ask him to be treasurer again - and hold the entry fee from this years winnings.

16 a possibility @The Gator? I’m a strong yes if it is.  If not, I totally understand.  Just finished 50k in EPL, so I’m definitely not the pushover I was when I last played with you guys

Let me set up a thread - and get a vote on that.

I am not specifically opposed - but crunching the numbers and 16 is a lot.

That’s not me, btw. I’ve stayed away from posting in the PSF as promised. I wish I could say the same for certain commissioners.

Are we making a new thread for the new season or is this still the one?
I am having an internal debate in my head about who is best positioned to start the new thread...

There seems to be a consensus building that I might not be the best person to start/maintain the thread.  I understand the concern, even if I think they are slightly overblown - but the irony of "me" even making this post is not lost on me.

The draft will start around the week of August 10.  Historically, we gripe about the pace of the draft, but generally get in about a round per day.  So, 17 rounds would have us done at least 2 weeks prior to the start of the season.  There is some value in waiting - as this will be an odd transfer season, with some teams not finishing up this year until mid- August. (CL does not finish until August 23).

We will have to sort 1 issues pretty quickly - number of teams in the league.  We have 14 right now, with two more wanting to join - making 16.  I hate excluding anyone who wants to play, but I do also worry about depth of rosters, and value in the waiver wire/free agent pool.

We haven't done 16 teams before; let's try it. As for roster versus waiver, I think we should favor a bigger waiver pool. 15 man rosters. Limit teams to 1 GK and grant right of first refusal on the backup if starter gets hurt. Then have a 4 man bench. Start draft 8/24.

Not in favor of going to 16 teams. I'll deal with 14, but this was a lot more fun this year when there was SOMETHING decent on the WW most weeks.

With the constant rotation of starting lineups, small benches would result in a lot of guys taking zeros each week (or having to pick up a total scrub just because he's starting in order to register some points)

Not trying to exclude anyone either, but I hate the idea of having to either take a zero or pick up some non-scoring midfielder or defender from a relegation level club just because of mid-season squad rotation.   With all the different game windows (many of which are super early in morning) we're just adding a bunch of randomness in at that point (not skill)

Also, and this may sound like sour grapes.....but can we put some sort of mechanism in place to fill out the lineups for teams that "give up" late in the year?  That really impacted the results from this past season and we should probably find a way to cover ourselves if it happens again.  With no playoffs in place, it kinda sucks that one team gets an opponent that's trying early in the year and someone else gets to play someone only starting 9 viable players in the last week of the season.
