Top 100 movies of the 2000's (1 Viewer)

a lot I haven't seen, some I have that I don't think deserve mention, but a lot I saw that I liked a lot. IMO, Yi-yi is the best on this list... but good to see a lot of others up there that don't normally rate (Team America and Borat in particular).

Have yet to see a "Top 21st C" list with my favorite "The Imitation Game" on it. The only movie i've seen to get hyperintelligence right, and a righteous telling of the story of the hero of the 20th C (wins the war, invents the computer) destroyed by prejudice and it dont make the Top 100 of a British snobzine.

The highest rated one I've seen is #19.  And only 13 on the whole list.  That's scary.  Either this is a #### list, or I don't spend enough time in front of the TV.  My guess is the former.  Got to see if any of these are on Netflix.

Seen about 25. Obviously some disagreements, but solid list. The big omissions for me were Zodiac, The Assassination of Jesse James by...., Lady Bird, La La Land, Dunkirk, Memento, Children of Men, Amelie.

Those would be great additions to the list!

Will count tomorrow, but I think I've seen over 1/2, and I like the list enough to move some I haven't seen up the queue.

I think the list whiffed a bit on the comedies, but to be fair I am probably not the best judge for that.  Just think Team America that high is a bit much.

Got to No Country For Old Men at #86, laughed, and bailed.

Instant credibility torpedo right there for me. I'll admit it's individual, but that's what that ranking did.

Liked the others up until and abit after, though.  But there were not 85 better movies that NCFOM in the aughts and teens.

There are at least 2 movies better than it in 2007, so I dont think its outrageous that at least 50 are better in the last 2 decades.

I did a couple of these lists and it's hard.  I agree it's too low, but I usually have issue with what is on/off the lists more than if a movie is 4 or 40.

You know, I went back to bed and thought about it. I kept looking at the list in the end. Not a bad one to this dilettante's eye.

Hurt locker was awful

Get Out at 25 :lmao:   GTFO

A Serious Man was one I really liked

Boyhood...might as well have filmed paint drying for 14 years

12 years a slave - also boring as hell

terrible list overall

Looks like I've seen about 55.  I think the list is good with the dramas and docs, but comedies are off and like most lists the horror is lacking.  I get why Get Out is ranked high with critics,  but would personally have other horror movies on the list instead.

Agree with zodiac, momento, and COM

Dinkirk was a let down for me and haven't seen the others

I was surprised to see a list without Mad Max: Fury Road

I didn't like it, but was surprised it wasn't on a list - especially if stuff like Ted and Team America found their way on there.

Which horror movies?

Which horror movies?
Good question.  I personally think stuff like The Orphanage, Cabin in the Woods or Let the Right one In are much better horror movies, but I get why Get Out is on lists.

ETA - I will try to find my threads of best movies of the 00s and first 1/2 of this decade to see if I had some horror movies on there.

i remember being good friends with the rock critic with the city weekly. It was sort of prestigious position, all things things locally considered. He is and was an interesting guy and a good friend, who I'd gotten to know way before the sunlight of fame. I kid about that that, but it was true to a degree. As the local critic, he wielded pen power that you wouldn't believe in terms of booking, influence, etc.

He was really enthusiastic and knowledgeable about music. Just so much so.

His lists and taste made me wanna :wall: :wall:

Watched Boyhood last night to verify this list.  👎👎👎  The premise of showing a movie over >20 years is interesting.  The movie is boring though.  This top 100 list was obviously picked by an Oscars board of governors septuagenarian.

Another mediocre list. Almost like a random list of critic's favorites.

#1 and #2 are a complete travesty for me.

A Serious Man would make my top 10 worst list.

Take this for what it's worth, but according to Rotten Tomatoes here are the average Critic and Audience scores for the 100 movies:

Critic Average score:  90%

Audience Avg. score:  78%

Which two would you put over No Country?  Guessing There Will Be Blood and Zodiac?

Some omissions from my list of favorites:

City of God

Sexy Beast

Let the Right One In

You Can Count On Me

Memento

The Secret Lives of Dentists

Shaun of the Dead

Zero Dark Thirty

Inside Llewyn Davis

Minority Report

28 Days Later

Man, you guys have a boner for No Country..
You can count me as another ha.     I think I would have to include The Place Beyond The Pines somewhere on this list.   I think I also like The Town a bit better than Oceans Eleven and might try to fit it somewhere on here.

I'll add myself to the chorus on the No Country as a big miss on rank.  I don't think the list is terrible overall, but definitely has the British feel that you expect from The Guardian.  Wuthering Heights is up there, and that is about as boringly British as it gets.

If only all critics of critics did that.  Of course I'd also love to see the scripts that all of them would submit that would make anyone's top 100 list.

If you haven't seen 24 Hour Party People or The Handmaiden, definitely check them out.

Would have liked to see The Guard on this list, but what can you do.
