I guess I kinda respect that there are some rules of law, but at this point, why even bother with this impeachment? I haven't really been following along, because we all know how this is going to end. What's the ####### point?

This is the Senator that has stated that all women offering allegations need to be believed. She has forever trashed her reputation and should be roundly ignored.

I know you are not replying to me, but I'm like minded with the OP. I'm no longer hopeful that the Republican party represents my fiscal conservative views. When I say fiscal conservative, that is not code for make rich people more rich. They talk a good game and gave a loud mic to the Tea Party but in retrospect that was just using a wing of the R party to wage political budget obstructionism. Given power, they exploded the deficit. I don't actually think either party does fiscal conservatism anymore, so the only topic for me to vote on is morality.

Did she do this while being in public service? I'm guessing no. Did she do this while her husband/son/parent was in high office? I'm going to again guess no.
She was an SC House member and then Governor when Boeing opened their east coast operation in SC.

Lots of people change their views/beliefs, but I doubt very many people instantly change. There is usually a progression and a sequence of events/actions that change peoples' views. 15 years ago there were fierce debates in the FFA over gay rights. Public opinion on this topic has shifted wildly from then to now, but it didn't happen instantaneously.Engelberg said:

I really don't care if you "buy" it, but yeah, the last 2 elections have been straight D right down the line. And will be that way till this President is out. I voted for Chris Christie twice, Christie Whitman, and a GOP Congressman (Chris Smith), plus GOP mayor. Not again for a while (whether you believe it or not).

You replied to Amused to Death. ATD was replying to me. I can't speak for ATD. That said, ATD never said his views or beliefs changed. For myself, it's unacceptable that the people I expected to represent me because we SHARE some or many political views are part of a cover up.
I've voted for my share of GOP presidents and state/local elections as I mentioned. But this Trump-led version of the GOP is not something I want to see long-term. This version of the GOP needs to go away, and voting strictly against is the only voice I have.Bucsfan5493 said:

This is the question that I've never heard one single Republican attempt to answer. They'll say things like 'The house could have called them as witnesses if they wanted to", but never answer to why Trump wouldn't ant to let these witnesses with first-hand knowledge go under oath and tell us all why Trump did nothing wrong. Same with refusing to hand over any documents. This is all anyone needs to know as to Trump's guilt. And to suggest the whole thing is illegitimate is hilarious. Worst case of corruption in our country's history. This is exactly why our framers included an impeachment clause. They anticipated a Donald Trump. Unfortunately, they didn't anticipate an entire senate to be in on the crime/cover-up.

Donald and Eric Trump own a company that has received thousands of taxpayer dollars at the direction of the President, without Congressional authorization or any semblance of fair bidding for the jobs.
Another update: GOP senators will be allowed to stick their fingers in their ears and sing "da da da da" to make sure the don't hear any evidence or argument again Trump.
McConnell was pressured by Collins, Portman, and MurkowskI. He wasn’t confident he had 51 votes.
While it won't matter to the Senators, I hope it means something to open-minded voters. I'd take this first round as doubling down on 2016:
Is Portman someone that might realistically ask for witnesses or other procedures to make the proceeding more genuine? I hadn't heard his name discussed before as one of the Republicans that might crack on this stuff.
