QB Trevor Lawrence, JAX (1 Viewer)

2021 seems like an awfully long time.

I was just talking about the three-year waiting period juxtaposed against right-to-work and antitrust laws. Interesting stuff.

In keeping with the link spirit, this looks like an in-depth but good primer about the labor law issues involving the NFL, the NBA, and their age requirements. Full disclosure: I haven't even read the whole thing. It just seems like a very thorough first or second-year law school sports law primer for those that are interested in this question that seems to pop up with supposedly transcendent talents every five years or so.

Legality of Age Restrictions In The NBA and the NFL

You’d think the NFL would have learned to avoid this after they lost Herschel Walker to the USFL.  This kid is already more ready to play than many NFL starters.  Let him decide for himself. Pretty sure he won’t be short on suitors.

On that note, I had forgotten that Larry Fitzgerald got a waiver to enter the NFL from Commissioner Tagliabue. That part of the article was a bit of a intellectual caffeine jolt this morning.

Some of the articles linked have bits and quotes from coaches that actually don't believe he's ready yet. I think the links Faust provides are interesting reading to us that don't really follow CFB but follow the Sunday version of football. I just assumed he was ready. He doesn't even seem to think so.

My stance on the legality of this has nothing to do with whether I think T. Lawrence can play and be effective in the NFL.

Okay, full disclosure: I dislike the CBA and the Courts' stance on the draft and the age restriction, but it is what it is, and it's fair to listen to those that think it impossible. Fine and dandy. Opinions are certainly welcome from all sides as far as I'm concerned. Finer minds than mine have weighed in on this and think I'm incorrect.

My stance on the entire CBA of the NFL is one where I shrug and ask what smarter men than I would do. It's tough.

Clemson sophomore QB Trevor Lawrence completed 22-of-39 passes for 395 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions and ran for a touchdown with 42 yards rushing in a 41-6 thrashing of Syracuse on Saturday.

The 399 yards passing are a career high for Lawrence (6'6/215). Two of the touchdown passes were to the ever-so-speedy wideout Amari Rodgers, and he also found talented freshman Frank Ladson Jr. for a score. Lawrence also added a rushing touchdown, but it wasn't all good with the two picks. Even still, the presumed first pick of 2021 showed off his impressive arm strength and touch -- for the most part -- and Clemson was not challenged. Again. They won't be challenged next Saturday against Charlotte.

They won't be challenged until the fiesta or peach bowl.
They already won their only challenging game (Texas A&M). Now they play one of the weakest schedules in an otherwise weak conference.

We don't get to really assess where Lawrence is this year until late December.  Obviously he's already shown to be elite.

I love Lawrence (and drafted him high in a 1 college player FF league), but despite the final stats, he played like garbage last night against Syracuse.  Underthrown balls that his big WRs bailed him out multiple times, bad reads on his interceptions, etc.   He just hasn’t looked great in any of thr games to start this season, to be honest.

Clemson sophomore QB Trevor Lawrence completed seven of his nine pass attempts for 94 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday's 52-10 win against Charlotte.

Lawrence (6'6/215) donned the baseball cap early in this one, giving way to Chase Brice and Taisun Phommachanh. The early rest might not have done much to bolster the Heisman numbers for Lawrence, but he is 100 percent healthy heading into the heart of the conference schedule. Things figure to start getting a little more difficult at North Carolina next Saturday and then home to Florida State on Oct. 12.

Sep 22, 2019, 1:21 AM ET

Las Vegas odds for Clemson sophomore QB Trevor Lawrence to win the Heisman Trophy have dropped to 12/1.

Lawrence (6'6/215) opened the season with 3/1 odds for the Heisman, but his performances early this season have not been impressive enough to hold steady on that front. Four quarterbacks now hold better odds in Tua Tagovailoa (7/4), Joe Burrow (3/1), Jalen Hurts (7/2) and Justin Fields (9/1). For the season, Lawrence has thrown for 925 yards (62.3% completions) with a 7/5 TD/INT ratio in four games. Compare that to Tua, who has put up 1,300 passing yards (77.7% completions!) with a 17/0 TD/INT ratio through his first four games of the campaign.

Clemson sophomore QB Trevor Lawrence completed 18-of-30 passes for 206 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 45 yards and an additional score in Saturday's 21-20 win over North Carolina.

Lawrence (6'6/215) wasn't perfect on the afternoon, but he did enough to help the Tigers remain undefeated after UNC put a scare into the defending champs. The sophomore star scored via a short rushing touchdown just before halftime -- that one knotted up the score at 14-14 -- and pushed Clemson out in front on a perfectly-placed 38-yard scoring toss to Tee Higgins early in the fourth quarter. He then had to nervously wait out UNC's subsequent touchdown drive, one which would have put UNC ahead had the team's two-point conversion attempt proven successful. While Lawrence has been slightly more wobbly this season than in his scorching end to the 2018 campaign, he remains one of the most talented quarterbacks in the country. The Tigers will play host to FSU next weekend.

Looks like completely different player from 2018 version.
I don't know how that can be. He looked like he was on another plane of existence last year. But you're right, 2019. . .

but he still runs well!

Still like him whenever he enters the draft.

Honestly he has kind of sucked this year.  And most of his mediocre stats came on a couple of screen passes that went the distance that really had nothing to do with him.

yeah.  it's kind of shocking.  His subpar play is making CLEM look very beatable.  They almost lost today to a tomato can.

In all reality he wasn't THAT great last year, really.  I never really understood the narrative that this dude was Andrew Luck++.  He played great, for a freshman, on a team that was practically an NFL team playing against a bunch of college squads.

He looked like he had promise, but people were jumping 3 steps ahead with this guy.

Clemson sophomore QB Trevor Lawrence sustained a bruised throwing shoulder against Texas A&M in Week 2.

Lawrence underwent an MRI following the game, with that scan coming up clean in terms of structural damage. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound sophomore said after the team's tight win over UNC two weekends ago that he feels healthy, so at least outwardly, it would appear as though the gunslinger is past his early injury concern. Lawrence remains one of the most talented players on the CFB landscape, but has wobbled at times this season, throwing for 1,131 yards (61.8% completions) with an 8/5 TD/INT ratio in five games. He'll be working against FSU this coming weekend.

Clemson sophomore QB Trevor Lawrence completed 17-of-25 passes for 170 yards, three touchdowns and an interception while rushing for an eight-yard score in Saturday's 45-14 demolition of Florida State.

Lawrence (6'6/215) was picked off in the contest, his sixth interception thrown this season, but overall, it was a very sharp performance out of the star sophomore. Discount the lower yardage total, as Clemson barely need T-Law in the second half. He accounted for all four of his touchdowns in the first half -- three passing, one rushing -- alone as the Tigers raced out to a 28-0 lead heading into the locker room. While Lawrence has not performed to a Heisman level for the season as a whole, if he catches fire, look out. Clemson heads to Louisville next weekend.

Clemson sophomore QB Trevor Lawrence completed 20-of-29 passes for 233 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in Saturday's 45-10 win over Louisville.

Lawrence (6'6/215) made a few wow throws in this one -- as he does in every game -- but once again, he had issues with his decision-making. Both of the sophomore's picks came in the first half -- both in the red zone -- and even his 25-yard scoring pass to Justyn Ross just before halftime was problematic, as Lawrence danced around in the pocket before flinging it up and (in our eyes) getting lucky. Lawrence has now been picked off in five-of-seven games and has three contests under his belt throwing multiple interceptions. Clemson is still a pretty strong bet to finish the year undefeated and in the Playoff, but Lawrence's lapses -- assuming he doesn't shore them up by degrees -- could cause legitimate issues against more robust competition. The Tigers will take on Boston College next weekend.

Clemson sophomore QB Trevor Lawrence completed 16-of-19 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns while rushing eight times for 42 yards in Saturday's 59-7 win over Boston College.

It’s been an unusual year for Lawrence, but none of his past mistakes showed up in Saturday’s game. Lawrence (6'6/215) was the ruthlessly efficient machine everyone assumed he would be all season. On 19 attempts, the sophomore had just as many incompletions as touchdowns at three apiece. Lawrence got the Tigers out to such an early lead that backup QB Chase Brice's 16 attempts in cleanup duty almost matched Lawrence's 19 attempt.

Oct 26, 2019, 10:39 PM ET

Clemson sophomore QB Trevor Lawrence completed 12-of-16 throws for 218 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 33 yards and a score in a 59-14 rout of Wofford on Saturday.

Yep. Clemson played Wofford this week. Lawrence (6'6/216) had no issue finding players open against the Terriers' defense, which isn't a big surprise. Clemson played Wofford. Still, it's worth noting that Lawrence has thrown for six scores the last two games, and he added a rushing touchdown for good measure. It's also worth noting that Clemson played Wofford on November 2. The Tigers will take on NC State next Saturday.

Nov 2, 2019, 7:10 PM ET

Clemson sophomore QB Trevor Lawrence completed 20-of-27 passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns while rushing eight times for 59 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 49-10 win over North Carolina State.

When a ramping-up Clemson team meets a spiraling NC State team, this is the result. Lawrence (6'6/216) looked fully back in "future No.1 overall pick" form with more than ten yards per pass and a quartet of touchdowns. After Clemson went up 49-0 early in the third quarter, Lawrence got to rest for the rest of the day as backup Chase Brice took over in cleanup duty. Lawrence and the Tigers will face Wake Forest next week.

Nov 9, 2019, 11:13 PM ET

Clemson sophomore QB Trevor Lawrence completed 21-of-27 passes for 272 yards and four touchdowns in Saturday's 52-3 win over Wake Forest.

Lawrence (6'6/216) got things going with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Tee Higgins in the opening minutes of the contest, throwing a perfect little slant to put Clemson out to an early lead. He would hook up with Higgy for scores twice more in the first half, including one on a beautiful back-of-the-end-zone toss in which he put enough mustard on it to split two defenders with under a minute remaining in the first half. This season, the star sophomore has now thrown for 2,575 yards with a 27/8 TD/INT ratio across 11 games played. After a somewhat wobbly start to the campaign, Lawrence has posted a 19/3 TD/INT ratio in his last six games. He has thrown for at least three touchdown passes in each of those six contests. The Tigers will be off on bye next weekend before wrapping up the regular season against South Carolina on Nov. 30.

Nov 16, 2019, 6:47 PM ET

Clemson sophomore QB Trevor Lawrence completed 26-of-36 passes for 295 yards with three touchdowns and ran for 66 yards in a 38-3 blowout of South Carolina on Saturday.

To the surprise of absolutely no one, this game wasn't close. Lawrence was able to find Tee Higgins for two of his scoring passes; including a beautiful 65-yarder, and Justyn Ross came down with the third. The 6-foot-6, 216-pound signal-caller also was able to gash the Gamecocks with his legs, and he was pulled when this game was out of hand. Clemson is 12-0, and they will look to clinch a spot in the playoff with a win in the ACC Championship over Virginia next Saturday.

Nov 30, 2019, 3:08 PM ET

Clemson sophomore QB Trevor Lawrence completed 16-of-22 passes for 302 yards with four touchdowns and ran for 24 yards in a 62-17 crushing of Virginia on Saturday in the ACC Championship Game.

What a difference the second half has been for Lawrence. It was another dominant effort for the 6-foot-6, 220-pound signal-caller, and it could have been even bigger if this game was remotely close. It was not. He found Tee Higgins for three of his scoring passes, with Justyn Ross procuring the other. Lawrence has been simply dominant as of late, and it's no surprise that it continues for the presumed first pick of the 2021 draft. Clemson will be heading to the playoffs, and likely will be the third seed.

Dec 7, 2019, 11:00 PM ET

Clemson sophomore QB Trevor Lawrence completed 18-of-33 passes for 259 yards with two touchdowns and ran for 107 yards with a score in a 29-23 win over Ohio State on Saturday in the Playstation Fiesta Bowl.

Both of Lawrence's touchdown throws went to Travis Etienne, and Etienne did most of the work on those connections. While the 6-foot-6, 220-pound signal-caller has certainly shown his ability to make plays with his legs, it was surprising to see how effective he was on Saturday against the Buckeyes. The play of the night was a 67-yard touchdown that saw Lawrence break down a couple of Ohio State defenders like a point guard with a crossover. It wasn't his best passing night by any means, but it was good enough as the Tigers move on to the CFB Championship on January 13 against LSU. Lawrence still has yet to lose a college football game.

Dec 29, 2019, 12:04 AM ET

Grace Raynor of The Athletic writes that Clemson sophomore QB Trevor Lawrence stayed up until 1 AM reviewing film the night before the game against Ohio State.

Lawrence (6'6/220) and backup QB Chase Brice stayed up until the early hours of the morning trying to find something exploitable in the Ohio State defense. According to Brice, the two came to the conclusion that Lawrence's legs could be a weapon, as Ohio State's single-high safety defense made them a bit boom-or-bust against QB runs. As Lawrence proved in the game, he was able to rip off some key runs on a couple plays where he broke the first tackle. Lawrence ran for over 100 yards for the first time all season against the Buckeyes.

It's incredibly likely the next two #1 picks play in the championship. Which should be awesome.

Only 1 team will win this lotto in 2020 and the following teams need to start preparation right now to win the Tank for Trevor QB lotto.

Bucs
Panthers
Dolphins
Chargers
Bears - gotta work extra hard & give up on what they have because they have nothing right now.
Colts - same
Lions - same

Gruden may even make a run at him by getting rid of Carr and tanking big time.

First year in Las Vegas? Won't happen.

Brady retires, Lawrence becomes a Patriot. Because BB says so.
