2019-2020 NHL Season Thread (4 Viewers)

One of their prospect blog guys is losing his mind on Twitter. I’m not sure he actually likes the team, just the prospects? All I care about is the cup, the entire core is young, go and get that damn thing.
The hockey version of the “don’t trade any prospects” guy is the worst in all the major sports.

Toffoli to Couver

@TSNBobMcKenzie: Prospect Tyler Madden, Tim Schaller and 2020 2nd round pick for Toffoli.

@PierreVLeBrun: So to recap: Tyler Toffoli (no salary retained on his $4.6 M AAV) to Vancouver for Tim Schaller ($1.9 M AAV), prospect Tyler Madden, a 2nd RD pick this year plus a conditional 4th in '22 if Toffoli re-signs with Van City.

Happy with the return for the Kings.

@adater: I’m hearing broken collarbone on Rantanen. 6-8 weeks normal timetable
Hi Joe. This is Marc. How's things?

Seriously,  tho, that sucks for him and the team. Hopefully a quick healer and he will be fresh for the playoffs.

@RealKyper: Sources say Shea Weber injury has his season likely over and his future in question. Told injury is related to foot that was surgically repaired in 2018. While waiting for swelling to alleviate and further confirmation, surgery seemed unavoidable going into this week. @nhl #weber

he only has 6 more years left on his contract.
@Left_Wing_Lock

Shea Weber: Is expected to be in the lineup for today's game. https://leftwinglock.com/players/index.php?p1=Shea Weber&flag=y… #nhl #GoHabsGo

The flip of it being that the Bolts are XX-XX-XX in 2020 (think they have lost only twice since Xmas in regulation), winning 11 in a row, and they have only gained 11 points on the Bruins and remain in second place

Hell of a push by Tampa, Toronto fading fast behind those two.

Speculation that prices for acquisitions will be way up vs last year with so many teams still in it.  The Bruins need a second line winger badly...  I am worried on the price but I think they have to add someone.  I am dreaming of Kreider...

@CapFriendly: TRADE
To Carolina #Hurricanes
D Joey Keane

To New York #Rangers
F Julien Gauthier

https://www.capfriendly.com/trades
Seems like a good prospects trade for both teams.

@drosennhl
Rangers trade D Joey Keane to Carolina for F Julien Gauthier, 22, who has 26 goals in 44 games with Charlotte in the AHL this season. Gauthier is fourth in the AHL in goals. He was Carolina's first-round pick (No. 21) in 2016.

Rangers gave Gauthier #12.

Yup. Looks like dealing D depth for a young big F prospect. Win win

The Canadiens have acquired St. Louis’ second-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft (and a conditional fourth-round pick in 2021), in exchange for defenseman Marco Scandella.

wtf was Kypreos reporting on if he's back playing so soon?

12. I heard the same rumours about Shea Weber’s injury — that it was serious and would, at least, cost him the rest of this season. So I spent some time last week trying to figure out the timeline and how things unfolded the way they did. This is what I pieced together: Weber was hurt Tuesday, Feb. 4, against New Jersey, but played the rest of the game. The blocked shot got a lot of attention, but, because the injury turns out to be a sprain, that instance doesn’t seem to be the actual root of the problem. He might have caught his skate in a rut, but I can’t pin it down.

The next day, he informed the team he was in pain, but an MRI had to wait until the weekend because the swelling was so bad. That imaging was inconclusive, because the swelling hadn’t gone down enough, so all involved decided to wait to do another one. Then someone realized the better path might be to send Weber to Dr. Robert Anderson, who performed the surgery on his foot in March 2018. (Anderson, who works for the Green Bay Packers, is an ankle/foot specialist. He also operated on Ryan Suter.)

Weber saw Anderson last Wednesday, and informed the club at around 1:00 p.m. that day the diagnosis was not as bad as feared. The Canadiens took heat for how they handled this, but it’s tough to fault them for this one. They repeatedly stated they were going to wait until they knew for sure, and didn’t get conclusive info for eight days. Plus, Weber is notoriously private, and wouldn’t like a blow-by-blow update.

i didn't understand this blurb from 31 thoughts

I do think the Canucks still would consider adding a Wayne Simmonds, but that’s more difficult without a 2020 first- or second-rounder.

I mean Simmonds is an easy guy to root for but he looked done last year.  Decent Corsi but he only has 7 goals and 16 helpers. I honestly would be surprised if any GM offered better than a 4th for hom at this stage.

Does anyone know why Gauthier didn’t get more chances at the NHL level? Produced a ton in the AHL and was already 24 yet only saw 5 games of limited action.

money working is an issue, need is there for Colorado.
why does anyone need Lundqvist at this point? He's 38 years old and clearly below average. Even if you ignore his bloated contract, he doesn't want to leave the Rangers and has a no-trade clause.
