Delivery serviceWhat helps you stick to a budget and resist the supermarket temptations?
Yeah, I'm not sure I'm taking advice on how to avoid impulsive supermarket buys from a guy named NutterButter.Never ever go to a supermarket hungry
Only shop when you are in a hurry, use one of the shopping list apps and put the items in the order of the aisles at the store you shop at most frequently. Just focus on getting in and out of there as quickly as possible. Shopping is such a time suck. What helps you stick to a budget and resist the supermarket temptations?
Another one is shopping by yourself is so much faster. The more time your partner/kids are dawdling you just end up bored and browsing.I think to go in the market with a crystal clear list of what you are there to get. Just quickly go and gather those items directly so you don't get trapped into wandering around and getting tempted by stuff you don't really need but are attracted to buying.
I use delivery, and I haven't had any problems with the freshness of produce or the date of perishables. It is worth trying.I would agree with the delivery option suggested, but I find that if you want fresh produce in your home you end up shopping in the store multiple times anyway.
Once we started using Instacart our grocery bills went down 30-40%Delivery service

You can get a yearly subscription for $79 or $99 that covers unlimited deliveries. I can't remember which.whats the service/delivery cost on that?
It's the opposite for me. I live less than 5 minutes from a Costco, but with parking and the length of the lines, I can order off instacart and have it delivered to my house in less time than shopping myself. They usually take about 45 minutes to get to my door from the time I order.Going food shopping at costco is one (or is it two since I go twice a week on average) of the highlights of my week. Unless they're paying me, I'll pass on the delivery.
I typically only go at 8 mon-fri. Its so peaceful at that time. You almost have the whole store to yourself. It's the opposite for me. Yeah, I think that's the standard price. I'm pretty sure I got a promo code that took it down to $79.99 is unlimited.
This. If you must go to the market, stick to the outside aisles. It has everything you need there. The inside aisles is where all the junk and temptation resides.Delivery service
I think $80 every two weeks is perfectly fine but no one budget will be perfect for everyone. You could be happy with canned tuna for dinner but someone else wants ribeye steak.Question for you guys that shop at a grocery market, how much do you spend?
Is 79-80$ every two weeks normal for a single guy?
That seems really cheap. You must be buying a lot of crap. If you're on a budget, I get it. If you can afford better quality, stick to fresh, perishable goods. More expensive but your body will thank you.Question for you guys that shop at a grocery market, how much do you spend?

That sounds pretty low to me. Do you just eat the food from the market? That would be nuts if you only ate $40 worth of food each week.Question for you guys that shop at a grocery market, how much do you spend?

While I may question spending that extra money on the service, the paid shoppers don't usually throw extra junk in the cart. So delivery might actually save you money in the long run.Delivery service
I've found the cucumber section to be particularly interesting.I like picking out my own produce.
But I'm single and I also like to see if there are any hot women touching vegetables.
First thing my parents taught me when they shipped me off to college.Never ever go to a supermarket hungry
That's what the bulk aisles are for. Stock up on organic almonds, cashews and walnuts for the 1.49/lb jelly bean price and proceed to self checkoutbeing broke
I mean I have a crock pot and cook chicken, rice and beans. I try to get fruits and veggies from Aldi's.That seems really cheap. You must be buying a lot of crap. If you're on a budget, I get it. That's extremely low for 2 weeks of food. you're the opposite of impulse spending. Are you eating ramen noodles every day?wazoo11 said:Question for you guys that shop at a grocery market, how much do you spend?

The 3-4 times a year I go to the grocery store this is my exact plan, and it works well, and cheaply. My wife hates this plan, except the few times she actually gprcery shops with me. She runs the cart and gets stuff and I go get things on the list. We get out of the store in 25 minutes, and she thinks it's wonderful. Then she goes back to hating my plan. .I think to go in the market with a crystal clear list of what you are there to get. This seems like a narrow range.wazoo11 said:Question for you guys that shop at a grocery market, how much do you spend?

I hear what you are saying, but there is also a value in my time and IDK if I could handle going to 4 different stores just to save a few cents per item.I read the Sunday newspaper inserts every week, and I write down a list of sale items that I want to get from each store. Then I'll hit 3-4 stores in the next couple of days (some days I'll do all my shopping at once, other times I'll just hit one store on the way home from work a couple nights a week).
I hate overpaying for stuff. I hate knowing that I paid more than I could have paid at a different store down the road. I'm not cheap, but I have a great appreciation for value.

I feel the same way as you, but I think for some people it's almost like a hobby in saving money even if those savings are only a small amount per week. All of us probably have that relative in the family that would rather clip coupons then play Soduku or Candy Crush etc. If they genuinely get enjoyment out of it I say good for them. There are tons of factors that determine how efficient/inefficient this is with your time but it pales in comparison to someone that golfs and plenty of folks do that.I hear what you are saying, but there is also a value in my time and IDK if I could handle going to 4 different stores just to save a few cents per item.
Yep. I don't mind paying $300 for a pair of jeans but if another grocer has a pint of blueberries for .99, you best believe I'm making an additional stop and stocking up there.I feel the same way as you, but I think for some people it's almost like a hobby in saving money even if those savings are only a small amount per week.
