Song lyrics that would make a great movie

Recommended Posts

On the Today Show this morning Dolly Parton said the following of her new Netflix series, Heartstrings:

”Ever since I was young I thought, ‘I would love to see my songs on the screen as movies,’”

QUESTION: What song lyrics (of any artist) would make for a great movie?

Red Barchetta - would be interesting to see a world where it was illegal to drive a gas powered vehicle. What caused us to get to that point, etc...

Red Barchetta
My uncle has a country place
That no one knows about
He says it used to be a farm
Before the Motor Law
And on Sundays I elude the eyes
And hop the Turbine Freight
To far outside the Wire
Where my white-haired uncle waits

Jump to the ground
As the Turbo slows to cross the borderline
Run like the wind
As excitement shivers up and down my spine
Down in his barn
My uncle preserved for me an old machine
For fifty odd years
To keep it as new has been his dearest dream

I strip away the old debris
That hides a shining car
A brilliant red Barchetta
From a better vanished time
I fire up the willing engine
Responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel
I commit my weekly crime

Wind
In my hair
Shifting and drifting
Mechanical music
Adrenaline surge...

Well-weathered leather
Hot metal and oil
The scented country air
Sunlight on chrome
The blur of the landscape
Every nerve aware

Suddenly ahead of me
Across the mountainside
A gleaming alloy air car
Shoots towards me, two lanes wide
I spin around with shrieking tires
To run the deadly race
Go screaming through the valley
As another joins the chase

Drive like the wind
Straining the limits of machine and man
Laughing out loud with fear and hope
I've got a desperate plan
At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded at the riverside
Race back to the farm
To dream with my uncle at the fireside

Paradise By the Dashboard Light

"Paradise By The Dashboard Light"

[Boy:]
Well I remember every little thing
As if it happened only yesterday
Parking by the lake
And there was not another car in sight

And I never had a girl
Looking any better than you did
And all the kids at school
They were wishing they were me that night

And now our bodies are, oh, so close and tight
It never felt so good, it never felt so right
And we're glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
Glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
C'mon, hold on tight
Well, c'mon, hold on tight

Though it's cold and lonely in the deep dark night
I can see paradise by the dashboard light

[Girl:]
Ain't no doubt about it we were doubly blessed
'Cause we were barely seventeen and we were barely dressed

[Both:]
Ain't no doubt about it
Baby, got to go out and shout it
Ain't no doubt about it
We were doubly blessed

[Boy:]
'Cause we were barely seventeen
And we were barely dressed

Baby, don't you hear my heart
You got it drowning out the radio
I've been waiting so long
For you to come along and have some fun
Well, I gotta let you know
No, you're never gonna regret it
So open up your eyes
I got a big surprise
It'll feel all right
Well, I wanna make your motor run

And now our bodies are, oh, so close and tight
It never felt so good, it never felt so right
And we're glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
Glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
C'mon, hold on tight
Well, c'mon, hold on tight

[Both:]
Though it's cold and lonely in the deep dark night
I can see paradise by the dashboard light
Though it's cold and lonely in the deep dark night
Paradise by the dashboard light

You got to do what you can
And let Mother Nature do the rest
Ain't no doubt about it
We were doubly blessed
'Cause we were barely seventeen
And we were barely

[4x]
We're gonna go all the way tonight
We're gonna go all the way
And tonight's the night

[Radio Broadcast:]
OK, here we go, we got a real pressure cooker going here
Two down, nobody on, no score, bottom of the ninth
There's the wind-up, and there it is
A line shot up the middle, look at him go
This boy can really fly
He's rounding first and really turning it on now
He's not letting up at all, he's gonna try for second
The ball is bobbled out in the center
And here comes the throw and what a throw
He's gonna slide in head first
Here he comes, he's out
No, wait, safe, safe at second base
This kid really makes things happen out there
Batter steps up to the plate
Here's the pitch, he's going
And what a jump he's got
He's trying for third
Here's the throw
It's in the dirt, safe at third
Holy cow, stolen base
He's taking a pretty big lead out there
Almost daring them to pick him off
The pitcher glances over, winds-up and it's bunted
Bunted down the third base line
The suicide squeeze is on
Here he comes, squeeze play, it's gonna be close
Here's the throw, here's the play at the plate
Holy cow, I think he's gonna make it

[Girl:]
Stop right there
I gotta know right now
Before we go any further
Do you love me?
Will you love me forever?
Do you need me?
Will you never leave me?
Will you make me so happy
For the rest of my life?
Will you take me away
Will you make me your wife?

Do you love me?
Will you love me forever?
Do you need me?
Will you never leave me?
Will you make me so happy
For the rest of my life?
Will you take me away
And will you make me your wife?

I gotta know right now
Before we go any further
Do you love me?
Will you love me forever?

[Boy:]
Let me sleep on it
Baby, baby, let me sleep on it
Let me sleep on it
I'll give you an answer in the morning

[Both:]
Let me sleep on it
Baby, baby, let me sleep on it
Let me sleep on it
I'll give you an answer in the morning

Let me sleep on it
Baby, baby, let me sleep on it
Let me sleep on it
I'll give you an answer in the morning

[Girl:]
I gotta know right now
Do you love me?
Will you love me forever?
Do you need me?
Will you never leave me?
Will you make me so happy
For the rest of my life?
Will you take me away
Will you make me your wife?

I gotta know right now
Before we go any further
Do you love me?
Will you love me forever?

What's it gonna be, boy?
Come on. I can wait all night
What's it gonna be, boy?
Yes or no?
What's it gonna be, boy?
Yes or no?

[Boy:]
Let me sleep on it
Baby, baby, let me sleep on it
Well, let me sleep on it
I'll give you an answer in the morning

[Girl:]
I gotta know right now
Do you love me
Will you love me forever
Do you need me
Will you never leave me
Will you make me so happy
For the rest of my life
Will you take me away
Will you make me your wife

I gotta know right now
Before we go any further
Do you love me
Will you love me forever

[Both:]
Let me sleep on it
Will you love me forever
Let me sleep on it
Will you love me forever

[Boy:]
I couldn't take it any longer
Lord, I was crazed
And when the feeling came upon me
Like a tidal wave
I started swearing to my god
And on my mother's grave
That I would love you to the end of time
I swore I'd love you to the end of time

[Both:]
So now I'm praying for the end of time
To hurry up and arrive
'Cause if I gotta spend another minute with you
I don't think that I can really survive
I'll never break my promise or forget my vow
But God only knows what I can do right now
I'm praying for the end of time
It's all that I can do (ooh, ooh)
Praying for the end of time
So I can end my time with you

[Boy repeat until the end:]
It was long ago and it was far away
And it was so much better than it is today

[Girl repeat until the end:]
It never felt so good, it never felt so right
And we were glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife

Lazaretto - Jack White - I would shoot it at Waverly Hills Sanatorium:

Quote

The Waverly Hills Sanatorium is a closed sanatorium located in southwestern Louisville/Jefferson County, Kentucky.

...

Waverly Hills has been popularized on the television show Ghost Hunters as being one of the "most haunted" hospitals in the eastern United States.[citation needed]

The sanatorium was featured on ABC/FOX Family Channel's Scariest Places on Earth, VH1's Celebrity Paranormal Project, Syfy's Ghost Hunters, Zone Reality's Creepy, the British show Most Haunted, Paranormal Challenge, Ghost Adventures on Travel Channel[21][additional citation(s) needed], and in episode 18 ("The Bull and the Beautiful")[22] of season 3 of Animal Planet's series Call of the Wildman.[23] It was also featured on paranormal shows Ghost Asylum and Paranormal Lockdown; both on Destination America. It was also mentioned on The CW's show Supernatural in season 11, episode 23, "Alpha and Omega".

Lyrics:

My veins are blue and connected

And every single bone in my brain is electric

But I dig ditches like the best of 'em
Yo trabajo duro
Como en madera y yeso
Como en madera y yeso

And even God herself
Has fewer plans than me
But she never helps me out with my scams for free,
Though she grabs a stick and then she points it at me
When I say nothing, I say everything
Yeah when I say nothing, I say everything

They threw me down in the lazaretto
Born rottin', bored rotten
Makin' models of people I used to know
Out of coffee and cotton

And all my illegitimate kids have begotten
Thrown down to the wolves, made feral for nothin'
Quarantine on the Isle of Man and I'm trying to escape any way that I can, oh
Any way that I can, oh

I have no time left
Time is lost, no time at all, throw it in a garbage can
And I shake God's hand
I jump up and let her know when I can
This is how I'm gonna do it

They wanna burn down the prison
They're lighting fires with the cash of the masses

And like the dough I don't fall down
I'm so Detroit, I make it rise from the ashes

Major Tom (Coming Home) - Peter Schilling

Major Tom (völlig losgelöst)

Peter Schilling

Standing there alone, the ship is waiting
All systems are go, are you sure?
Control is not convinced
But the computer has the evidence
No need to abort

The countdown starts

Watching in a trance, the crew is certain
Nothing left to chance, all is working
Trying to relax, up in the capsule
"Send me up a drink", jokes Major Tom
The count goes on

Four, three, two, one
Earth below us
Drifting, falling
Floating, weightless
Calling, calling home

Second stage is cut, we're now in orbit
Stabilizers up, running perfect
Starting to collect requested data
"What will it effect, when all is done?"
Thinks Major Tom

Back at ground control there is a problem
Go to rockets full, not responding
"Hello Major Tom, are you receiving?
Turn the thrusters on, we're standing by"
There's no reply

Four, three, two, one
Earth below us
Drifting, falling
Floating, weightless
Calling, calling home

Across the stratosphere
A final message, "Give my wife my love"
Then nothing more

Far beneath the ship, the world is mourning
They don't realize, he's alive
No one understands but Major Tom sees
Now the light commands, this is my home
I'm coming home

Earth below us
Drifting, falling
Floating, weightless
Coming home

Earth below us
Drifting, falling
Floating, weightless
Coming home

Earth below us
Drifting, falling
Floating, weightless
Coming, coming home

Home

I dunno, but I'm pretty sure the lyrics to "Last Christmas" will make a gawdawful movie

Hurricane - Bob Dylan

Yes, I know the movie has been made, but I have never seen it.  Not sure how good it is.

Just go to Mackinac Island. No gas powered vehicles allowed on the island, save a fire engine and ambulance.

This is one of the first songs I remember listening to the words. My dad played Gordon Lightfoot all the time and this one I remember always wanting to know what was going on. So I asked the original Google, my parents  about it.
