2020 FBG Stock Contest (1 Viewer)

Andrew74

Footballguy
Welcome to the 16th annual FBG Stock Contest!

Hopefully I won't be as terrible keeping this up to date in 2020.

Real Time Tracking

The Rules

Pick one stock that you think can appreciate the most (EXCLUDING DIVIDENDS) in 2020.

We'll take entries through Wednesday, January 1st; must be posted by midnight board time. Baseline will be close of market on 12/31/19, regardless of when the pick was submitted.

Foreign stocks okay if traded on US exchange (i.e.ADRs)

ETFs okay IF NOT LEVERAGED

NO Shorts (includes short ETFs)

No duplicates; FCFS

Please also consider sharing some thoughts/info on the stock

Optional Bonus Question - Guess where the S&P will finish the year. (I am not worrying about duplicates for this).

I'm going to be really lazy and pick Reed, Inc (REED) again.  It was rocking last year until their 3rd quarter earnings missed and the stock tanked.  I've still heard some rumblings that there may be a buyout.  I think the company is worth more than the $0.90 it's trading at just on operations, so without a buyout, I think a double is feasible.

I did cash out my principal last year when the stock was $4+.  Wish I'd sold out!  I did sell out in December for a tax loss harvest and will buy back in soon.  I think I still netted about 30% or so.

Still bullish and think the S&P will close at 3,480 on 12/31/20.

Thanks, Andrew, for keeping this alive. We have quite an archive-- assuming those links still go somewhere.
It would be great to get back to more people sharing some info on their picks.

I will go with recently public, Inmode (INMD)   Israeli manufacturer of surgical skin treatment technology..
"The Company’s proprietary technologies are used by physicians to remodel subdermal adipose, or fatty, tissue in a variety of procedures including fat reduction with simultaneous skin tightening, face and body contouring and ablative skin rejuvenation treatments."

Because the population is aging and people are vain.

S&P  - no clue really - but I'll go for a net modest gain to 3330

My entry is CYDY.  I introduced it to the stock thread in October.  Late stage biotech company whose drug, Lironlamib, has ~13 indications. They've received fast track designation from the FDA for their combination HIV therapy and expect to submit the last two pieces of the BLA application later this month or in January.  They should receive FDA approval in Q1 2020.  They issued a press release today which indicated they may file for a break through designation at the FDA for treatment of Triple Negative Breast Cancer because of the results from two patients who are on the drug for compassionate reasons.  They will need to enroll a few more patients but if they continue to see similar results, the FDA won't be able to ignore them.

The stock has doubled in the last week but I still feel there's a lot of opportunity here. Market cap is around $400MM.

Here's an article which addresses the opportunity in the HIV space.

S&P 500:  3500

This year I’m going to take a shot with GOGO - thought process is that in-flight wifi access is going to be looked at more and more as a necessity vs a luxury

SPX: 3075

So who is making the FBG pie in M1?

Haven't followed much, but surely this mutual fund would crush.

First of all, props to chet who made at least a handful of FBGs thousands of dollars in the past couple weeks on CYDY. I hope he wins this thing in 2020 (and sells his CYDY at $50 per share, buys FBG, then brings back yoga pants.) But I'm in for a flyer on Luckin Coffee (LK). China and coffee--what's not to like. I'm hopeful that the S&P will correct well in advance of the 2020 election. I'll pick 2700 for a nice round number as its closing price on 12/31/20.

I went to the site, but the home page did not sell me. Granted I must be missing a lot of info. How about an Executive Summary?

M1 is just a trading platform with "free'" trades.  Anyone can create their own portfolio using stocks / ETFs, can share that portfolio if they so choose.  I've never done it, but I believe anyone can take a shared portfolio and use it.  I might go ahead and create the FBG portfolio and put a miniscule amount in it.

Undervalued compared to Trulieve by 3x. In the cannabis industry. They're #2 in Florida.

Profitable in Oct 2019. and expected to going forward.

owns 387 acres of land for cultivation. 250,000 square feet greenhouse is cultivating and producing all the cannabis brands for their own 22 dispensaries in Florida. 10 new dispensaries are coming in 2020.

From Motley Fools news "The 6 Best MJ Stocks in November", Liberty ranks No. 2.

On the daily timeframe, the 50 MA is about to cross the 200 MA - golden cross

Let’s see if Majesco and their pending IBM/MetLife project gets officially launched or at least formally announced this year. MJCO is my pick. Most well-known quasi-competitor would be Guidewire, but in short they are moving the outdated insurance industry to the cloud and also giving solutions to make insurance products more targeted and flexible. Sexy!

S&P 3585

So there is no minimum share price?  Seem to remember it was a $5 min at some point in past.
There used to be.  I think last year was the first year we went back to their being no minimum.

You wouldn't happen to know the ticker for Google Finance, would you?  When I used MJCO, it comes back "#N/A."

I use Google Sheets to track all my accounts and I actually can't get it to work, either, never have. I tried everything including exchange prefixes.

I figured I’d stick with my tradition of randomly picking a stock, since I’m pretty ignorant.

I found a penny stock list, closed my eyes, scrolled down and picked one.

My entry is HJLI.

Good luck to me!

CYDY closed at $0.61 on Dec 23.  CYDY closed today at $1.00 for a gain of ~64% already.  Just sayin'.

To late for LK... so AYX. Data analytics tool, best in breed. Probably not speculative enough to win but my highest-conviction holding going into 2020.

S&P: 2850

LK up 10% since last week. It’s no CYDY but it’s still a shame I’m not going to get credit for the positive move made after I picked it.

I got all the picks entered.  Please check yours to make sure it is correct.  Good luck everyone!

Nooooooooo I forgot!!!

gonna throw something in here for posterity anyway I never win.

it will be my usual bearish proposition because I am zero faith in the current administration even more so today.

LONG:  AU (trades on NYSE) closed at 22.69 today.

S and P 500: 2222.22

@Andrew74

if you put me as an unofficial ride-a-long eminence-style I'd appreciate it.  If not I understand :(

Just haven't gotten to this forum much at all in the last year :kicksrock:

Mine as well.
There was a formula error on a couple of row, so I think I got everything fixed.  Let me know if you still see an error.

I added your pick so we can all follow along.

I also sorted the sheet by Member name so it is easier for everyone to find their pick.
