The NFFL 2.0

Hello! And Welcome to The NFFL, this league has been designed to best simulate the experience of a real life NFL GM/Coach

The league will be composed of 2 Conferences each containing 2 Divisions (4 divisions total)

AFC (1), AFC (2), NFC (1), NFC (2)

Each season the divisions will be shuffled in a way that ensures at least 1-2 new teams each season will have a chance to make the playoffs and compete for a championship

The NFFL 2.0

Start Here:

Please read the entirety of this post before asking any questions or joining.

Our free agent auctions will occur weekly on Sunday Nights, 8pm Easter Time until 10 PM Eastern Time, Starting on May 31st until completion. If you cannot commit to being available for those time slots than I would not recommend joining this league. You are not required to make every auction, and it is 100% possible to not attend every auction and still build a very talented team/championship contender (I have watched teams do it in other leagues) but this is a 16 man league and voting on time slots would be absolutely chaotic, so Sundays 8pm-10pm US Eastern from May 31st until completion will be the set auction/free agent times.

League Description:

Hello! Welcome to The NFFL 2.0! This is an expansion onto my original creation (which has been a great success) “The NFFL.” This league is designed to get as close to the feeling of a real-life NFL GM/Coach as possible, meaning this is designed/formatted as a “mock” NFL league. The league will be comprised of 16 teams split up into 2 conferences (The AFC / NFC) and 4 divisions – AFC (1)  AFC (2)  NFC (1)  and NFC (2) – Rosters will be formatted as closely to a real NFL roster as possible and scoring will be as in depth as we can possibly get! Your 53-man roster will have 11 weekly starters on both offense and defense in which you will be tasked with building a deep, talented, and budget roster through drafting rookies, conducting trades and signing free agents!

Part of what makes this league unique is our “team captain feature”, considering this is a 16 man league and there are only 32 starting NFL quarterbacks at any given moment there is a legitimate possibility (due to drafting strategies, budgeting strategies, free agent strategies, injuries, bye weeks, etc.) that a team could find themselves in a position without a starting QB! In The NFFL 2.0 this is not a problem, in fact it could be a strategy! If you are an old school kind of football fan who really appreciates ground and pound football or if you’re dealing with a slew of injuries/bye week issues you could choose to start a RB in place of your QB! As long as your team has a “BACK” as their captain!

Rookie Draft:

The inaugural (season #1) rookie draft will occur in a serpentine order, the draft order will be randomized, each team will receive 5 selections. Trading is allowed.

The draft is currently scheduled for May 1st

All first-round selections include a “5th year option” and contracts are formatted similarly to NFL rookie contracts (meaning the #1 pick makes more than the #2 pick, etc.)

The draft will be conducted as a “slow draft” each team will be awarded 8 hours per pick , giving teams ample time to research, trade, negotiate, etc. if they so choose.

THE DRAFT ORDER WILL BE DECIDED AS FOLLOWS:

Pick #1 = 9th place team

Pick #2 = 10th place team

Pick #3 = 11th place team

Pick #4 = 12th place team

Pick #5 = 13th place team

Pick #6 = 14rd place team

Pick #7 = 15th place team

Pick #8 = 16th place team

Pick #9 = 8th place team

Pick #10 = 7th place team

Pick #11 = 6th place team

Pick #12 = 5th place team

Pick #13 = 4th place team

Pick #14 = 3rd place team

Pick #15 = 2nd place team

Pick #16 = 1st place team

In other words, WE DON’T REWARD LOSERS. The best team of all of the “losers” (i.e non-playoff teams) is awarded the #1 pick in the draft, the worst team in the league (i.e. the team who came in last) is awarded a top 10 pick (i.e. the #8 pick) but we will not be rewarding pulling your players/tanking in this league. Teams should always be setting their lineups, signing free agents, making trades and trying to win; THAT gets rewarded. I believe this will keep things extremely competitive as well as keeping things interesting for the nonplayoff teams (considering they will essentially still have their own “draft picks contest” going on.) plus it’s a great consolation prize to the team who JUST missed the playoffs.

Free Agent Auctions:

As stated above, free agency will occur starting at 8pm – 10pm US Eastern Time, Sunday May 31st, 2020 and will occur every Sunday thereafter from 8pm -10pm US Eastern time until completion.

All teams will have (9) 4 year, (9) 3 year, (9) 2 year, and (unlimited) 1-year contracts that they can offer free agents each season. Free agency will occur in a live bidding format in which all 16 teams can submit their best offer in which the winner gets the free agent.

All teams will have a 188-million-dollar salary cap which they must manage (that may increase considering the real-life NFL salary cap is set to increase, so I will update you guys on that). There is a variety ways to manage your budget such as cutting players, eating dead money, trades, utilizing your IR, etc.

Contracts:

ALL CONTRACTS ARE FINAL

(excluding extreme circumstances such as death)

ON THE FIELD INURIES DO NOT COUNT AS DEATH

Players will be responsible for all owed money on a player’s contract. To simplify this I will give an example.

Example: If you give Tom Brady a 4 year, 40-million-dollar contract (worth 10 million per season) his contract will be BACKLOADED. This means that his contract would be constructed as follows:

Season 1: 6 mil            Season 2: 8 mil            Season 3: 12 mil          Season 4: 14 mil

In addition, about 20 million (about half of his contract) will be fully guaranteed. That would mean that the first season of his contract (6 million) would be fully guaranteed, and then about half of his salary the following seasons. This would mean if you cut him at the beginning of season #2 you could end up owing him 4 million in season (2), 6 million in season (3), and 7 million in season (4) (there are a lot of variable to this).

So before you recklessly hand out big, long term deals to players you should really question if you want to be financially tied to them, 3 or 4 years down the line

Placing a player on IR relieves you of 50% of their current years contract, this is a good way to manage injured players (obviously) but it can also be used as slots to hold extra players (such as prospects) as well as a way to manage a bad contract and gain salary cap space.

Trades:

Trade Deadline will be set for the final day of week #10 of the regular season (around November 10th, official day TBD and I am open to making it until the end of the regular season)

Trades will be processed upon acceptance, no vetoes allowed; however, if “collusion” is suspected I do reserve the right to intervene. Generally speaking I am extremely lazy faire, however, I do not put up with bull####. If the 5th ranked WR is being sent to a team in exchange for a package of skittles I do reserve the right to step in; if this ever did occur a league vote would be made in which a 51% (overall majority) would be required. This has never happened, I do not expect it to be an issue, don’t be a #####, don’t be that guy, its fantasy football please just have fun and don’t ruin the league for 15 other people.

All trades are final upon acceptance, HOWEVER, as a “EMERGENCY” precaution (for whatever reason, perhaps you accidently hit “accept”) you will receive a 5 minute grace period in which you can send me an email saying “EMERGENCY TRADE VETO”, if your email is received within 5 minutes of hitting the “accept” button I will manually undo your trade. Once it hits 6 minutes the trade is final…. If any other CRAZY situation happens we will deal with that on an individual basis.

DRAFT PICKS MAY ONLY BE TRADED 1 YEAR IN ADVANCE

(i.e. the year(s) in which you are paid in full for)

League Safe:

All payments and payouts will be conducted through league safe. Our league link is listed below. You can use this link to pay for/reserve your spot in the league whenever you are ready.

https://leaguesafe.com/join/3923830

Payments are due by April 1st, 2020 at the latest although spots will be reserved based on a first come first serve basis. So I would pay as soon as you have the money available / once are sure you want in, the league will fill up quickly.

No money will be refunded, you are 100% responsible for all money paid and will be expected to play out the (seasons) in which you have paid for (Seasons #1/#2 upon entry). If a replacement for you is found, 50% of your money will be refunded (the other 50% will be used to help sell your team for a decreased price to a replacement owner).

As an example is if after season #1 (and at the beginning of season #2, in which the money for season #3 would be due since we pay 1 year in advance) you decide “this isn't for me.” You are still 100% responsible for season #2. If we are able to find an owner who will pay full price for season #3 and half price for season #2 (since he is taking over someone else's team) then you will be refunded half of your money (as a courtesy). However, if a replacement owner can only be found by offering them a free 1st year in exchange for them paying a year in advance you will get 3 options….

#1 Play out the season and try to win some money back

#2 Forfeit your money and count your losses

#3 try and sell your team yourself for a higher price by talking to friends, posting online at forums, etc.

THIS IS A DYNASTY LEAGUE, NOT SOME ONE YEAR BUSH LEAGUE BULL####.

Which is why I can't just let people screw over the league, which is why I am being very upfront about all of this. People will come and go in this league (just like the real NFL….) people get bored, sick, die, busy, whatever, and replacements will be found. However you are responsible for every season you pay for, whether you choose to forfeit that money, play out the season, or sell your team is up to you; however, do not expect a refund unless (for whatever reason) the league was to end.

* Edit: 0.5 points per reception and 0.25 points per carry (hand off/run), I believe divisions will be “shuffled” each year which will keep a competitive variable ensuring at least 1-2 new teams will have the chance to make the playoffs and make a run each year.
