The Colts don't usually bother with high end free agents, preferring to build from the draft, but this year they should make an exception.  They should go after Amari Cooper, use the #13 pick on defense should one of the better QB prospects not fall to them, and then use the #34 pick on BPA.

I tend to agree.  A lot of talent on that team, I can see a couple more pieces getting them into the mix.

The Chargers announced Philip Rivers will enter free agency.

"I've said before that Philip can still compete at a top-starter level and, in a perfect world, number 17 is your quarterback forever," GM Tom Telesco stated in his press release. "Obviously, we live in an imperfect world where the only constant is change." The Chargers have a lot of moving pieces to address this offseason, but Rivers was always expected to be on his way out given the circumstances. The veteran closes his 16-year tenure with the organization as the franchise's all-time leader in completions (4,908), passing yards (59,271), and passing touchdowns (397), having started every game for the Chargers since 2006. The Buccaneers and Colts have both popped up as potential landing spots for the 38-year-old signal-caller this offseason.

I'm sure there are logistical reasons for the order, but I've always thought the NFL offseason was somewhat ### backwards. Why not have the draft first so everyone can get "the best players available".  Then to fill the remaining positional holes have the FA period follow it up.

Not sure the players union would like that strategy. Current players get first opportunity to get new contracts with teams more likely to react with the uncertainty of the draft looming. Otherwise teams could potentially “shore-up” needs with the draft and have a more complacent take on free agents. Just a guess.

Will Browns Target Anthony Harris in Free Agency? Difficult to Imagine They Won't

When introduced as the team's general manager, Andrew Berry said the Cleveland Browns would be aggressive acquiring talent. Without being specific in terms of how that will take shape, the Browns may not be throwing a ton of money around in free agency, but they will certainly pick their spots and try to add players that can help them. One player that could fit the mold perfectly is pending free agent safety Anthony Harris from the Minnesota Vikings. ...

From the FBG  news wire:

Browns | Cleveland likely to consider Jack Conklin    Thu Feb 20, 03:29 PM

Tennessee Titans impending free-agent OT Jack Conklin will likely receive interest from the Cleveland Browns in free agency, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jake Trotter.
From the link:

Jeremy Fowler@JFowlerESPN

Browns will not be re-signing Greg Robinson. Their first call in free agency should be to Jack Conklin, one of the most captivating free agents in the eyes of NFL sources. Time to adequately protect Baker.

---------------------------------------------

Fowler is making a suggestion and doesn't really understand the Browns are going to incorporate a brand new outside-zone blocking scheme.  Greg Robinson was not a fit and neither is Conklin.

Brent Sobleski@brentsobleski

Signing Jack Conklin to a MASSIVE deal--which he'll demand on the open market because he's 1) 25 years old and 2) the best of a bad crop--then playing him in a scheme he's not particularly suited for doesn't seem like a good idea.
