I don’t post much in here but if you pay attention, I rip Trumps antics.   He is a blow hard and a loon.   I wish he would shut his mouth and turn off Twitter.

Trump has been a terrible president for all sorts of reasons, but I honestly think he would win reelection somewhat comfortably if he would just stay off social media.

He’s bee a great President for all sorts of reasons too. No one has ever stood up to China like he has. The dems fighting against him the dishonest ways they have now face the bad optics of being pro commie China.

You've seen the video from from the State of the Union last night https://youtu.be/ppoElx09wFk

Two questions:

1. Did this hurt or help your side? I"m not asking here whether it was proper or not or over the line. That's the next question.

2. Was it "over the line" for Pelosi to rip up the speech? And "over the line" is intentionally vague. You may be Pro Trump and think it helped Trump and it was over the line. You may be Anti Trump and think it was over the line and it hurt Trump. Or any combination of the two.

I don't think it has any long-term impact. It's just silly.

Clearly, they don't like each other and that impacts their ability to work together. Pelosi was over the line, but it was a partisan ploy to please her supporters and attack Trump.

The speech itself was just the typical SOTU where everything is great, but Trump created 'TV' moments that made this perhaps more entertaining than a typical speech. I don't think the speech was really anything that shocking or offending to warrant that reaction from her, but I don't think it makes her look very good.

I am undecided and it was like watching two children. I am a moderate republican for the record but changed parties for the upcoming election so I can vote in the Democratic primaries.

2 wrongs do not make a right and Pelosi stooped to Trumps childish behavior not shaking her hand when he came up to the podium.

It hurt the democrats IMO. And it rallied Trumps fanatical base even more.

The whole thing was ridiculous and is an indictment of how pathetic our politics in this country have gotten. So embarrassing.

Anti-Trump. Hurts Democrats, over the line.

It’s a damn shame that Trump produces the State of the Union like it’s the Hunger Games, and lies incessantly. But it falls on the people to understand if and why that matters, and more-and-more the GOP has voted for the circus, right down to giving PT Barnum a Medal of Freedom. (“A sucker is born every minute.” -PT Barnum.)

I feel what little recourse I have left is to vote for a party that isn’t the circus. So I hate to see a clown show.

I am so glad she went this route instead of doing something meaningless and petty like fighting his $738 billion defense budget.

This is a really good point and is my biggest problem with politics.   Our leaders constantly argue like children over stupid stuff like hand shakes and torn papers while the big issues are not addressed, year after year,   Imagine what could happen if full attention was placed on solving big issues such as spending, healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

Isn’t it as simple as a technology platform that gets many millions across party lines to agree to outcomes, track progress against them, demand results, and promise to tie reelection to his-partisan efforts to get things done?

In my estimation he will win anyway. The Democrats can't get out of their own way and the party is so divided.....it's insane. You have two Ultra left socialists, and unfortunately I don't think this country is ready for a gay president. The two moderates in the room thus far have not gotten any traction....but it is really early.

Biden IMO is the only guy with a shot to beat Trump. This country is not voting for extreme left socialists.

I am in agreement with these posts.  The problem right now is people care more about their side than about the entire team (country).   The way these things are going it is pushing the slightly leaning left/right further and further apart because they are being lumped into the far left/right.  Instead of trying to do what is best for the country as a whole its centered around what is best for the party lines.  This is the biggest problem we face today.  Nothing will change if this isn't fixed.

Agree. I have seen 20-30 even 40 year friendships end over this ridiculous notion we can't have different opinions on politics and policy. It is a direct reflection of what Washington has become.

A client of mine came in last week who was introduced to me by another couple that I work with. They are both retired couples who did a lot of travelling together for years. I asked the client what trips did he and the other couple have planned for 2020. He told me they have not spoken in over a year.

All over the fact he was a Trump supporter and the other couple are Democrats. I was floored. And I was saddened. What a shame to lose such a great friendship over politics. Not worth it.

Why can't we simply respect each others opinions and try to meet in the middle when it comes to policy? Moderates we are a dying breed and most of the country.....IMO are moderates. What the hell has happened?

It's not even necessarily over different opinions on policy.  It can be as much as saying I like what is happening with X...…..oh then you are racist Trump supporter or are a ####### socialist snowflake...…….It is guilt by association even if you are just slightly in agreement with some policy.  It is such a ridiculous overreaction that it pushes the moderates away from each other.  You get treated as an extremist even though you are nowhere close to it so you almost feel like you have to go full extremist just because.

The parties are so wrapped up with bad mouthing the other party and propping their party they don't fix anything.  I was so disappointed in the Michigan Governor follow on speech because it was so blatantly about the party line instead of actually doing anything.  I say fire all politicians and go back to part time elected officials that don't get paid and are only doing it because they want to better the country for everyone.   Stop being party-ists  (similar to racist but only about your political party).

Any friendship ended because of support of a candidate that doesn't involve either fascism, communism, or another dreaded -ism is a damn shame.

I think overt racism counts. That was what I thought of when I wrote "another dreaded -ism." But there's a line sometimes crossed out of ignorance about other cultures, races, and sexes that people often cross unwittingly and with no malice. I'd say malice towards other races counts. Selective misanthropy is no good, especially when borne out of immutable characteristics.

If I was in the same room with that jerk I'd feel pretty proud of myself if I was able to restrain myself to only ripping some paper instead of ripping him a new one. That said, she's in a position of power and needs to restrain herself in that moment. I understand it though and I won't hold it against her.

Keane Bhatt @KeaneBhatt

There is no better distillation of Washington, D.C. than a State of the Union in which Nancy Pelosi—having just led the impeachment of Donald "All Roads Lead to Putin" Trump—twice joins in a rousing standing ovation of Juan Guaidó, Trump's appointed "president" of Venezuela.

Putrid Pelosi stunt symbolizes the hatred and division sown by Democratic operatives. From The Russian conspiracy theory launched by the left to the fake news impeachment conjured up by partisan hack and CIA whistlower, Eric Ciaramella. Seditious Schiff and Democrat’s look increasingly like public enemy number one to our nation and constitution.

658 posts?  I don't know.  You seem to be a troll.  I don't believe you either.  Your vitriol is a little too close to the surface for anyone who isn't all in.

I raise the possibility much earlier, but as a joke.

The Presiding Officer at the Joint Session was vice President Pence, not Pelosi.  If there was an official document submitted, and I read the federal requirements somewhat more broadly than merely to the courts as implied by Prof, Tribe, but to government officers, and when I couple that with the Constitutions demand that a report is made I think that would be correct, the official document was the one handed to Pence and hers was a copy.  I suspect they have document control numbers on the docs and that would in fact be born out.  when I raised this I was having fun.  I can't believe that anybody would have run with the theory, but there we are in this day and age.

I must have missed when Turley said Trump should step down for suggesting shooting asylum seekers. Not to mention separating the families of asylum seekers or locking them in jail.  Yes, tearing up a copy of Trump’s lie riddled speech is the true crime here.

What is so funny are reports (from unnamed sources) of Trump ripping up official documents in the White House with his staff having to scotch tape them back together to preserve them because they are required to be retained by law.

Plus Trump has deleted tweets which proved to be embarrassing after the fact, which in itself is some federal code or statute violation because even a tweet is considered an official statement by POTUS and by law must be preserved.

King Trump is literally incapable of breaking the law because he is the law.

It's not just pettiness. Trump projects all his crimes and vices onto others, yes, but he also likes to accuse his critics of being corrupt in order to drag them down to his level. He intuits that he'll never be able to convince lots of people that he's a straight arrow, but if he can get people to say, "Ah, the whole lot of 'em are crooks and liars", that's a win for him.

Yeah left wing radical behavior that lawlessly abuses their power to further their Marxist, communist, white male phobic agenda tends to bring out the vitriol  from those who don’t want their open border, infringed gun rights, curbed free speech and baby killing/gender twisting, Christian hating utopia.

People with low post counts who don’t agree with you aren’t necessarily trolls. Maybe they’re just less Communist news network CNN brainwashed than the average lefty.

Yeah, except the tweets are backed up in real time on another server. As long as it's not within arms reach of Hillary, it's safe to say the tweets still exist.

It is ridiculous to expect people to waste their time listening to someone they don't like or disagree with, when the content can be summarized in a couple sentences.

You only want to read and listen to things you like and agree with?  It is impossible to understand issues or grow that way.  People who come into politics or have never had a job outside politics and leave wealthy millionaires should be a concern to all of us no matter what side you are on.   Also in this short clip Dore discussed why Pelosi did not go for impeachment of George Bush.
