Former staffer accuses Joe Biden of sexual assault

It is pretty simple, IMO.

If you called for investigations into Kavanaugh, Trump, Fairfax, Franken, etc. and are completely dismissing any of these allegations against Biden, you are a hypocrite.

If you excused the behavior of Kavanaugh, Trump, Fairfax, Franken, etc., and thought it was all a partisan witch hunt, yet want Biden investigated, you are a hypocrite.

The only partisan witch hunt was Kavanaugh which was certainly about protecting abortion,  which she lied about under oath.  There was zero to back up her claim that anything even happened let alone Kavanaugh being involved.   Trump is slimely and undoubtedly guilty with far too many credible reports.  Fairfax was probably guilty with two credible rape allegations from women with no motivation to lie.  Franken was a victim of poor timing as his crimes were offensive but mostly just juvenal bs.  Biden is probably guilty as the story is corroborated and fits his history of uncomfortable touching.   Reade told her story to people while she still supported him politically.

Right, harassed. I think that was Reade's original claim. I realize that harassed also covers assault, but that's kind of the point, the difference between her first story and this one.

This.

They should not be treated any different. Both are unqualified to lead this country based on past allegations.

Not that I am a huge fan, but Amy Klobuchar nearly saw her campaign throttled because of accusations that she was mean, and threw a shoe at someone. Yet here we are with the two presidential candidates with serious sexual misconduct issues. :kicksrock:

We really do need a woman president

Sorry to hear that, you seem to be one of the few hung up on the wall. Compared to Obama he looks like a genius, not sure what you are talking about. Due to the pathetic options on the left once again Donnie is the clear choice.

I have no dog in this fight, and it makes BOTH sides look bad, re: the hypocrisy noted in the moops post that I quoted above.  It's comical the lengths some will go to, to criticize the other side while giving their side the benefit of the doubt.

My favorite kind of hypocrisy is the kind where someone only points out the hypocrisy on the other side. Being hypocritical about hypocrisy is pretty amazing stuff and accounts for a decent percentage of PSF posts.

And, for the record, I'm sure I've been guilty of that in the past and will be again at some point in the future.

Women are often sexuallyassaulted be people they admire and then are conflicted on what to do.

And yes, the details were the same.

LaCasse told Insider that in 1995 or 1996, Reade told her she had been assaulted by Biden. "I remember her saying, here was this person that she was working for and she idolized him," LaCasse said. "And he kind of put her up against a wall. And he put his hand up her skirt and he put his fingers inside her. She felt like she was assaulted, and she really didn't feel there was anything she could do."

I just don't see how Biden can survive this if it's treated with the same seriousness as the Kavanaugh issue was.

I'm torn because I have no one to vote for as of now. I think Trump has done good things but he's a bit much personality wise. Biden is a senile lifetime politician who's really never accomplished anything, plus he's possibly a serial sexual assaulter. Ugly state of affairs right now. There has to be another option.

@clairesandberg

Now is the time to deal with the ramifications of Tara Reade's accusations, not this fall. There is simply no moral justification for Biden to continue as the presumptive nominee. Out of respect for survivors and for the good of the country, he should withdraw from the race.

This does not mean that Bernie should become the nominee by default. I agree with @peterdaou that the primary should resume somehow, and other candidates who dropped out should be able to get back in the race as well. Obviously, this means primaries should not be cancelled.

But barreling ahead and acting like Biden's conduct is excusable, or pretending that Trump won't make a lot of hay out of the Democratic party's hypocrisy, does not seem like a good plan to me. Speaking as a person who is very alarmed by the prospect of a second Trump term.

I appreciate this article from @rtraister laying out why no woman VP will be able to fix Biden's sexual assault and harassment problem. https://thecut.com/2020/04/the-biden-trap-woman-vice-president.html… But it ignores the option that would put us on the best footing, both morally and strategically: Biden stepping down.

Obviously this would be an unprecedented step and there are huge logistical and strategic issues to consider here. But I hope that people in the party are thinking seriously about them.

The stakes are too high to just pray that "yes these accusations are troubling but vote for Biden anyway to stop Trump" will be a winning message. It's possible that it will be enough, given the level of death and economic destruction we're facing, but do we want to risk it?

And do we want to take that risk while losing the moral high ground, telling survivors and women that they don't matter, and appearing to confirm to those who have lost trust in the political system altogether that Democrats are just as partisan and without values as Republicans?

Cavanaugh had ridiculous stories thrown at him and he was guilty until proven innocent. I recall several democrats even saying such. Now that its their guy it's going to be a blackout and don't look over there... especially a known creeper with documented history of having issues with personal space.

I was just curious about what double standard you are complaining of?  Trump has dozens of credible sexual assault allegations against him and the right wing media pretends it doesn't exist.  So you will think it is is funny if the left ignores this claim against Biden, but do not think it is funny that the right buries dozens of similar claims against a sitting president?  The hypocrisy you are calling out is itself hypocritical.

Also, Re Kavanagh - I believe Ford.  I invested a lot of time into that whole thing and read everything.  Kavanagh lied in his confirmation hearing and lied to the Senate directly about ridiculous things (Devil's Triangle = drinking game).  He came off as a guy who could have been cast in Porky's based on his college years.  I know others disagree and I'm not interested in rehashing the evidence.

Of course he will survive it.

If you guys have trouble with this story and you can’t vote for Biden- well that’s up to you. But if you honestly believe this story will result in his stepping down as a nominee- that’s not gonna happen. Or if you think this story will in some way seriously hurt Biden’s chances- that’s delusional as well IMO.

In the real world right now, Hillary Clinton is endorsing Joe Biden. Biden is spending his time tweeting about coronavirus testing and differences between him and Trump on that issue, which will brings the ONLY issue that matters to folks in the fall.

This story will continue to be internet fodder. But in the real world it won’t make the slightest bit of difference.

One thing for sure, state TV is all over trying to push this story.  Half of their front page stories relate to this.

Weird how they are were so supportive of Trump and all his accusers who were doing it only for politics and had no evidence.

I wonder if Trump supporters actually think this out of the blue, no evidence accusation will hurt Biden when he's running against Trump?

Like someone will say, "well I was going to vote for sleepy Joe, but since he's been accused of sexual assault, I'm going to vote for Trump instead."

It's silly in its absurdity.

C'mon.  Biden's a handsy ol' fellow who definitely showed affection in weird, harmless ways.  But this chicks recount is 100% against any Biden we've ever seen.

Respectfully disagree. And just from reading this board I am not sure someone so entrenched on one side can accurately speak about how this will effect people like myself who are without a credible candidate and exasperated by both sides.

This is going to have an impact on Biden. This will not disappear with what's out there right now.

I find Tara Reade's account of sexual assault to be absolutely credible, well supported by friends/coworkers/acquaintances- and far more serious than anything Kavanaugh or Al Franken were ever accused of.  But for some reason, it's not being covered the same way as Blasey Ford's allegation was.  Joe Biden needs to drop out.

Besides, the standard of conduct for people seeking office has been set by Trump.  That's the litmus test, are the assault charges more numerous, believable, and is there tape ADMITTING to sexual assault?  If not, then the voters decide.

According to his own words he is an assaulter, unless you somehow missed the Access Hollywood video:

Quote

And when you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab 'em by the #####. You can do anything.

And 23+ women have accused Trump of some sort of sexual impropriety with them, with most having contemporaneous corroboration from a friend, co-worker, neighbor or relative who they told about the incident after it happened.
