The Don
As a way to provide some sort of diversion while many of us are homebound, I started this tournament to determine which exactly is the best Courtroom Movie.

To qualify, a movie has to spend a certain amount of time in the courtroom (which includes the jury room) and the courtroom scene(s) must be vital to the core of the story.  I am lenient on these qualifiers in order to get more diverse style and subject matter, but only to a point.  An example of one that did not make the cut despite having two courtroom scenes was one of my personal Top 10 films – GoodFellas.  Not a close call - one does not typically think of GoodFellas as a courtroom movie, so it is not included here.  Close calls were generally included.

The top 32 movies (in my humble opinion combined with IMDB lists, RT score and public notoriety) qualified.  5 rounds.  There shall be a winner. Vote as you feel is appropriate.  Let’s begin.

Didn't come up on any of the lists I looked at.  Sorry
Oh yeah that’s a must. I didn’t even realize that it was missing because it’s such an obvious choice. I’m glad The Verdict made the cut, great movie and one of Newman’s 2 best performances.

Just remembered Rashomon.

Those two, head to head would be interesting.
Yep, that Judgement at Nuremberg and The Passion of Joan of Arc are big ones left off the list. Though I think it's likely most people haven't seen them so I get leaving them off for new movies. The thing doesn't work so well if people haven't seen a bunch of the movies.

Judgement at Nuremberg was one of my final cuts, for the reason you list.

It's usually listed in the top-3 for lawyer films of all time.
I like it and it's entertaining.

But for me, it doesn't compete with films like 12 Angry Men, To Kill A Mockingbird and A Few Good Men, to name a few.

Presumed Innocent is one of my favorites. I can't turn the darn thing off once I start watching it.

Should have a John Grisham division.

No "A Time to Kill"?

I just watched "A Few Good Men" the other day. Forgotten how good it is.

"12 Angry Men" should take this down.

Disappointed Runaway Jury is up against A Few Good Men at the start.  I thought it was a good movie and should have gotten some love....

I would have that up there pretty high in my rankings as well.  Great movie and I hope they burn in hell.....

I thought the same thing.

It's easily the best film based on a Grisham book.

I would give that award to A Time to Kill.   However, I like all of the adaptations even if they don't always follow the book that closely (The Firm).

No Sleepers?
worst. premise. ever.

WHY THE #### DIDN'T FATHER BOBBY ALIBI THEM PRIOR TO THE TRIAL?

ya mean to tell me those two hoods were never once asked for their whereabouts on the night of Nokes' murder?

and, if they were, why didn't they just say they were at the Knicks game with Father Bob?

... and if that alibi caught everyone by surprise at the trial, why didn't the prosectuon just ask "WHY DIDN'T YOU DIVULGE THIS WHEN WE ASKED WHERE YOU WERE THAT NIGHT?"

... and, seriously - a priest just pulls out three ticket stubs and that's it?  case closed?

other that that how was the play Mrs. Lincoln?

:lmao:

damn crooked/fixed trial  :D
Yeah that was surely lame = although they wanted the trial to expose the pedolphilia so they couldn't alibi them beforehand. Obviously though it's a flawed premise.

but I did love the movie otherwise.

you could argue the defendants wanted the trial to happen and play out the way it did.

Sleepers was among the final cuts.  I really didn't want to have a 64 film bracket or have play in "games"
