***Official*** 3rd Party/Independent 2020 Voters Thread (1 Viewer)

Libertarian Party nominated Jo Jorgensen on Saturday.  Never heard of her until today.

Would like to see a few more issues fleshed out but she certainly seems interesting.
Never heard of this person, and I'm bitterly disappointed that I can't vote for Justin Amash.  I'm probably going to vote for Biden or not vote.

Seconded. Amash is the perfect vote for those of us in states already decided. His combination of conservative thought and willingness to be able to stand up to President Trump would be a breath of fresh air in politics.

If he was running, he might sway my vote away from Biden, because I don't want to vote for a major party, but with the disaster of the past few years, I owe it to my children to help stop the slide into further madness.

Yeah, I can take that position because I don't live in a swing state. I'm in CA, so there's no real danger of my vote tipping the election.

Without the threat of a re-election, I’m terrified the last 3.5 years would look like a walk in the park. I’m on anything with a pulse that isn’t Trump. Technically, Biden still qualifies for that, so he’ll get my vote. 4 years later and another disaster, well done Dems.

Oh, I was just kidding. Those were the signs that Republicans had plastered all over D.C., where I lived at the time, in an obvious play on Gore/Lieberman campaign signs.
I know, I saw a bunch of them, too. Had a decent chuckle, but then again, I was 15.

As a lifelong Republican, I voted Johnson in 2016. Being Minnesota, Clinton was going to win anyway, and Libertarian was the closesr to fiscal conservatism than Trump. That, and I knew Trump was a lunatic and I wanted to send a message to the GOP they were going off the rails.

I won’t do that again. Starting in 2018, I voted Democrat/DFL across the board and will do so for the foreseeable future. The GOP is not getting the message, and instead is doubling down on the insanity.

Other than the part about life-long Republican, this was and is me.

No more giving away a vote so Trump can win again.

GREENVILLE, South Carolina— “If Joe Biden aims to heal racial wounds in this country, he needs to immediately call for ending the racist policies he put in place, starting with the War on Drugs,” Libertarian Party presidential candidate Dr. Jo Jorgensen said today.

Jorgensen was responding to a statement the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate made in a speech on Tuesday, when he claimed, “I will seek to heal the racial wounds that have long plagued this country, not use them for political gain.”

But in 1989, President George H.W. Bush’s proposed escalation of the drug prohibition didn’t go far enough, according to then-senator Biden, who said that it “doesn’t include enough police officers to catch the violent thugs, not enough prosecutors to convict them, not enough judges to sentence them, and not enough prison cells to put them away for a long time.”

“President Trump has continued to execute the failed, destructive War on Drugs that Joe Biden helped put in place,” Dr. Jorgensen said.

“Trump has made great fanfare of his pardoning a token handful of people convicted of drug offenses,” she said. “What about the other 80,000 nonviolent federal drug offenders who remain locked up?”

“When it comes to racial injustice, it’s time for my opponents to stop their self-serving grandstanding,” she said. “Discriminatory drug-law enforcement is a big reason that people of color are five times more likely to be imprisoned than whites.”

“On Day One in the White House, I will pardon all victimless federal drug-law prisoners and encourage state governors to join me in establishing a long-overdue Drug Peace,” pledged Dr. Jorgensen. “But why wait? Justice demands that both of my opponents call for an end to the racist War on Drugs right now.”

I looked into them a little, I was turned off by Peltier as VP. I knew there was some controversy around his case but forgot the details... for anyone who doesn't know basically he was sentenced to two life sentences for killing FBI agents in the 70's. There was controversy about his case where he was involved but not in the shooting or something like that but it's just too far for me when I could just vote Greens with a similar agenda.
You know I'd never really read up on Peltier but Cohen published this thread today.  His only real crime was standing up for Native American tribes.

Looks like Howie Hawkins has officially surpassed the number of delegates needed to clinch the Green nomination.  Not going to say I'm overly thrilled with him but it's probably where I'm going with my vote. Ironically the second time I'll have voted for him in the past 2 years.

With this weekend’s victories we have now won 182 delegates, enough to clinch the @GreenPartyUS nomination in the 1st round! We’re excited to bring our ecosocialist vision to the general election and fight for the life and death issues facing the working-class! #HawkinsWalker2020

Judging by fundraising numbers, it would seem Green Party voters are much less enthusiastic about their candidate this time around.

Hawkins has raised approx $190,000 so far this cycle.

For context, Jill Stein had raised about $652,000 by this point in 2016.”

@primonutmeg

On @RonPlacone's show Green Party candidate Howie Hawkins claimed that his RussiaGate statements were misinterpreted -- that he was advocating impeachment based on obstruction of justice.

However, in the original interview, Hawkins clearly states he believes "collusion" occurred

How is she on the environment? I find a lot of points of agreement with libertarians but fracking and anti regulations usually turns me off to them

Still holding out hope that the Greens give Jesse another call (highly doubtful)
According to their issues page: “I will work to remove government barriers to replacing coal-burning and oil-burning power plants in the United States with safe, non-polluting, high-tech nuclear power plants – and allowing off-grid use of solar power. Worldwide, I believe we need to consider all scientific & economic knowledge to care for our environment, not cherry-pick data to support a pre-determined outcome. Most pollution is generated in developing countries, so reducing pollution worldwide requires cost-efficient zero emission energy sources like nuclear.”

There’s a bit of a mutiny going on in the Green Party, covered most prominently by Primo Nutmeg and the #CleanTheGreens hashtag.  The Hawkins people have benefited from some DNC-tier rigging, rule-bending and conflicts of interest.  Howie Hawkins is the death of the Green Party.  There’s probably going to be blood at the GP convention.

Oh interesting I'll have to check that out... I've withdrawn a lot from political twitter over the last few months (to the tremendous benefit of my own mental health).

I voted for Hawkins for Gov in 2018 because he was the only real option for me but I definitely don't love him, especially the Russiagate BS. Aside from Jesse obviously I kinda liked Dario Hunter but it seems like he ruffled feathers within the GP too.

If there is a dust up at the GP convention I hope some of them latch on to the Movement for a People's Party and get it rolling. I'm more excited about them than any other group at this point.

Not sure I like the bottom of that ticket.  Think I'd prefer it if Monds won the VP vote, but really can't say I know a whole lot about either.
Monds?  Cohen’s kind of a weirdo but I like that he’s talking about freeing whistleblowers, Reality Winner, Assange, Ross Ulbricht etc.  At least they both seem to be real libertarians and not washed up republicans this time around anyway.

Yeah I’ve retreated from twitter some too, the news cycle is just too sad.  This Biden inevitability narrative is pretty bleak too, but I still think Trump’s favorability is being heavily underestimated.

Hawkins is so bad, like even if he wasn’t wrong on several issues and given to CNN talking points I just think he’s boring and a little dull.

I trust Jorgensen so far and honestly there’s not much else out there as far as I can gather #ImWithHer.  I’ll be keeping an eye on MPP too.

While I am totally on board with anything different from the current,  we still have to be aware of how 3rd parties can be used and abused by the Big 2.

Twitter thread from columnist Dan Bice highlighting some possible... discrepancies in Kanye's WI nominating papers.

Thread
It just doesn’t seem right that a lawyer representing the Trump campaign can file papersfor Kanye West run for  President in a battleground state knowing full well it will take a few black votes from Biden. I call it dirty pool which pretty much describes Trump his entire life. “It’s whether you win or lose, it’s not how you play the game.”

Summary of 3rd party ballot access:

Libertarian: currently at 37 out of 51 states (+DC), but has not lost access to any states yet (was on all 51 ballots in 2016)

Green: currently at 31 out of 51 states (+DC); has lost access to 4 states (KS/NE/NH/OH) but gained access in 1 state (NC) (was on 45 ballots in 2016)

Constitution: currently at 14 out of 51 states, projected to be on 24 ballots in 2020 (same as 2016)

Alliance and Reform Party: currently at 13 out of 51 states (was not on ballot in 2016)

Socialism and Liberation Party: currently at 6 out of 51 states (was on 8 ballots in 2016)

Kanye's Birthday Party: currently at 3 out of 51 states (CO/OK/VT). Already missed deadline in 24 states, and was rejected in 2 other states (IL/NJ) for signature fraud.

Modern Whig Party: currently at 0 out of 51 states. Hey, ya gotta start somewhere!

Major parties propping up or suppressing third parties to suit their own interests is not new.  Switch to ranked choice voting and this stuff would end.

Well the Democrats found a technicality to get the Green Party kicked off the ballot in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Much easier than trying to do something to actually earn their votes.

Wonder who they'll blame now if they lose. 🤔

Weird. I was told Republicans were the party of voter suppression.
