""The most overrated player in the draft."? (1 Viewer)

An anonymous NFL executive in personnel told the Athletic's Bob McGinn that Clemson LB Isaiah Simmons is "the most overrated player in the draft."

NFL coaches and general managers prefer certitude, and that's nearly impossible to come by as it pertains to Simmons' role. In a poll of 16 executives asking what they thought his best position would be in the NFL, 10 replied weak-side linebacker, three said nickel linebacker, one said outside linebacker and two said safety. “If you put this guy at sam linebacker only, he’s going to struggle,” said an AFC executive. “If you put him at free safety only, he’s going to struggle. You’ve got to be creative." A two-year starting hybrid specialist who earned the 2019 **** Butkus Award as the nation’s top linebacker, Simmons played snaps at linebacker, safety, and nickel corner in college, allowing merely 5.6 yards per target given his elite sideline-to-sideline coverage skills. It would be wise for front offices to avoid pigeonholing him into any type of role, instead allowing him to roam free and naturally create plays at the next level.

I was hoping he's around @ 2.04 on my 12 team IDP league. May just look at Queen or one of the WR.

I am glad to see the dinosaurs are confused by him and won't be the one to pick him. Give him to someone who will adapt what they do to his unique skills.

Landing spots will dictate a bit but I have this as my big board based on my PPR league.

Jonathan Taylor
Jerry Jeudy
Ceedee Lamb
D'Andre Swift
Justin Jefferson
J.K. Dobbins
Henry Ruggs III
Denzel Mims
Jalen Reagor
Brandon Aiyuk
Clyde Edwards-Helaire
Tee Higgins
Cam Akers
Chase Young
A.J. Dillon
Laviska Shenault Jr
K.J. Hamler
Isiah Simmons

His value would not be maximized in certain schemes unless they adjusted.

That anonymous NFL executive (if he was telling the truth or just spreading mis-info to get Simmons to fall to their pick) may have been coming from a scheme that supersedes a great individual talent like Simmons.

EDIT:  PFF @PFF Innovators > copy Cat face

Top-eight pick to a team with dire need and who will maximize his potential.

Not sure your IDP scoring but he will go much higher in my league.  Floor is a second round pick because top-IDP Lbers score as high as 2nd-tier RBs.

I'm curious, how much has your board changed now that the draft has concluded?

Only speaking in FF terms how many missed the boat on Darius Leonard?
Now he’s the best FF linebacker in the game. I can easily see Simmons right there at the top with him, he has once in a lifetime athletic ability and some size to go with it. He is truly a freak, I am anxious to see how he is used in the Zona D scheme.

I could be way off base but I get feeling he will be a better NFL player than FF contributor. Probably wrong but I can live with it and don't intend drafting him anywhere.

Very possible. But in mho this only happens if he’s constantly covering TEs or slot wr. If he’s playing Lb just on sheer athletic ability he will always be around the ball which should translate to tackles. Zona has already said he will be playing LB, I think the stat sheet is gonna get stuffed by this guy. Consistently. But we shall see.   :)

He's very strong doing that, so I think it would be stupid of the Cardinals not to use him in such a manner.

I definitely see that happening on occasion, but really there are only a handful of TEs that would demand that type of attention, like Kittle. But unlikely he covers him every down, that would be a waste of an asset. But only they know what is the plan for him. Joseph has already said Simmons is a LB first.

Every great LB around the league does other things to make the team better. You think Kuechly only sat around waiting for a rb so he could get a tackle? Of course not, I am definitely not saying I expect Simmons to lead the league in tackles, but I do expect his FF numbers to be good. He will cover TEs on occasion he will also get sacks.

Obviously how they use him will determine how good for FF he really is. I drafted him in one league and was glad others passed on him.

Like I said, we shall see.
