local radio just said that they are announcing Tropical Storm warnings... in southern Arkansas! :eek:   Stay safe fellow LA and TX (and now AR) peeps! Drink 'em if you got 'em.  :banned:

 
Brutal thinking of the stress facing this, it's sheer luck it went south of Cuba instead of over the top. Massive eye. Might be the most powerful storm to hit Louisiana, per WVUE, and I'd have to think they haven't forgotten Katrina or Rita. Holly Beach at Lake Charles is so low, it's basically sea level. The weather service has evac'd from Lake Charles. God bless Vermillion, Cameron, Sabine.

 
Holy crap.  Last I looked this was supposed to be a yawn storm.  This sure escalated fast.

Impacting some shear way way too late.  This is the shear that was supposed to be there last night (as of 2 days ago).  

You can see some sign of this on the west side IR imaging.  

That being said, what it is now should be the peak intensity.  :scared:

 
Sounds like storm chaser Devin Black is stuck on the coast. 27 and 82 already flooded. 
 

ETA: looks like there is more than 1. Hope they find somewhere to ride it out.

Last update was 150 mph winds and 940 mb. This thing is getting super intense right before land fall.  Really worried about this area and hoping residents were smart and got out of there.  

 
If it sticks to forecasts will be passing to the east enough tropical storm level winds are what are expected for where I'm at.

Everyone in a more direct path, be safe.

Desert Power was right about Lake Charles. Lafayette is just barely far enough east to avoid the worst, but they will feel it.

Port Arthur, TX and Beaumont, TX are closer to landfall than Lafayette. Going to be rough in those towns. Again.

 
Lake Charles, Pt. Arthur, and Beaumont are all slightly lower elevation that most of Lafayette as well. Only by 15' or so but in this case that makes a huge difference. Not to mention a ton of chems produced in that area that none of us want in the gulf as well.

There's such a tight spiral on the west side of the storm, like everything when it gets northwest of the storm just gets pulled right back down to the eyewall. There's nothing over Houston right now. Just a few clouds in the sky. Had a small storm come through 8 hours ago but often not even that many clouds since.

 
It's 11:40 and my attempt to get a couple of hours of sleep before the big stuff hit us has failed.  I did some phone interviews on CNN and WWL radio in New Orleans earlier this evening.  

So far the power is still on and no flooding here in Lake Charles.  Winds are pretty strong but not consistent.  

Landfall soon, then we'll begin getting the 100 mph+ winds.  We are hopeful they won't last too long.  Our surge is not expected until mid-late morning since we are 30 miles from the gulf. 

Our building has a generator so I expect to keep power, but cable, internet and cell phones might not last.  

I think I am awake for the duration now. I'll try to post an update later.

The NOAA completely borked this prediction.  Less than a day ago this was going to hit as a cat 2.  

This storm is a lot like Katrina, though.  Huge surge in the last day.  

 
Transformers are starting to go out in downtown LC. They look like lightning and sound like fireworks. Making landfall now.

 
Getting into the northern eye wall now. Building is shaking! I think we will be in the eye in half an hour or so. Power mostly out downtown. Deteriorating conditions overall. Gonna be a rough stretch to a while.

 
Are these TWC reporters trying to win some Jim Cantore emmy for “most dangerous live weather broadcast?”  the gal last night, couldn’t say anything as she was just trying to not get blown away and if she did say anything you couldn’t understand her with the wind noise.
 

 
Seems like the storm surge wasn't that bad.  There was a forecasted re-curve late that would have walled up the water that never happened.  

For the most part the reports are of wind damage mostly, won't see anything approaching Katrina/Harvey.

Alternative view is that rapidly intensifying storms don't bring with them as much surge.  (note, this is me talking out of my ### again may not represent reality)

 
The coffee situation has improved dramatically. At home I have no power or internet, so I have to go to the office for anything other than cell service. It’s ok, nowhere near normal. I couldn’t post pictures on Facebook because the bandwidth stank. Speaking of stank, our water came on last night so I got a shower, which my co workers are currently appreciating.
