Joe Biden to Raise Corporate Taxes and Taxes on the "Wealthy" (1 Viewer)

KEY POINTS

Former Vice President Joe Biden’s plan to raise taxes on corporations and wealthy households would increase federal revenue by $4 trillion over the next decade, according to a new analysis by the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center.

While Wall Street may view Biden as more moderate than self-declared democratic socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders, investors would still face dramatic tax increases under his proposals.

The biggest tax increase on households would be the application of the payroll tax to income over $400,000. That provision alone would raise $962 billion over a decade, TPC found.

"Former Vice President Joe Biden told a roomful of well-heeled donors on Tuesday night that he would not “demonize” the rich if he’s elected president in the 2020 election. “I need you very badly,” he told the group.

Addressing the 100 or so guests at a fundraiser at the swanky Carlyle Hotel in New York City, Biden said he’d gotten into hot soup with “some of the people on my team, on the Democratic side” for his earlier comments about rich people being “just as patriotic as poor people.”

That’s “not a joke,” he said. “I mean, we may not want to demonize anybody who has made money.”

Appearing to suggest that his tax plan would not include excessive taxes on the rich, Biden said “no one’s standard of living change” if he’s elected.

“The truth of the matter is, you all, you all know, you all know in your gut what has to be done. We can disagree in the margins but the truth of the matter is it’s all within our wheelhouse and nobody has to be punished. No one’s standard of living will change, nothing would fundamentally change,” he said."

why the 180* now?

it's a bold strategy: tell your donors one thing, and tell your [potential] voters something contradictory less than a year later.

i wonder which group he's not telling the truth to?
His tax changes will probably be full of loopholes that they can exploit.  Oldest trick in the book.

So the Democrats have a great plan.

Ruin the economy with extended SiP measures, and then punish the entities(corporations/investors) that can save the economy with higher taxes to further stunt/damage the economy.

Apparently money grows on trees for Joe Biden.

Because he will say or promise anything to get elected.

We need to raise tax rates on the highest income brackets. Substantially. The giveaways to the rich have to end.
When is enough enough for you guys?

You guys want to raise taxes all the time.  Will 100% finally be enough for you?  is that when you plan to stop?  When you have everyone's money?

I guarantee you "the rich" doesn't mean what you think it means or what Sleepy Joe and the Democrats are telling you, because if you think everyone ain't gonna get taxed to death, you're in a serious bubble.

Hyperbole much? Everyone wants better education, better roads, better military, better police and fire departments etc. Do you think all that doesn't cost money?

WTH?  We already pay high taxes.  You act like nobody is paying anything.   OF course we're already paying for all that.

The point is it is never enough.  Every year you want to raise taxes because "roads, police".  It's a weak argument because our tax money is going for FAR more than just roads and police.  We could probably pay 30% less in taxes and still have all that covered.

Prices go up not down, and wages haven't kept up with inflation over the last 40ish years. Plus correct me if I am wrong, but we just cut taxes by 14 percent on the rich. Cutting taxes and try to fix things isn't going to work.

I said etc. Sorry I didn't list everything.

There’s no 180 from this article to the original post. In both he’s talking about raising taxes on the rich.

This is joe telling the rich donors their taxes will be raised but not oppressively

First, I appreciate that this is actually a thread about policy: we could use some more of these in here.
Mainly what Biden is proposing is to repeal Trump’s tax cut. Personally I think that’s a good idea. We can’t afford it.

The bolded (bolding mine) is the problem, where he is reassuring rich people that they will still be rich, but the subtext is you are also applying those same words to people who are struggling and getting left behind.

It's a start.

A fundamental reshuffling of wealth is inevitable and will happen on a global scale, the only question is how much or how little friction there will be during the transition. One good thing about the pandemic is that it accelerated a process that may have taken a decade or more and the dust should settle within 2-3 years. It also puts the problem in stark enough relief and provides what will be an undeniable rationale so that hopefully the change occurs through government rather than through violence.

What will take a while longer (though still not close to a decade) is the rest of the world switching to the Yuan as the preferred reserve currency. America is going to face some ugly truths over the next few years, but we have the potential to emerge better and stronger if we don't screw it up. It will take the type of leadership and collective effort that seems especially unlikely at the moment, though that's probably always the case right before massive restructurings or they wouldn't happen. God bless the United States of America. We're gonna need it.

I feel the same way about our military budget. How about we take some of that money and spend it here in the US to do the stuff we can’t pay for, whether it’s healthcare or a wall or dam repair or whatever. We really don’t need to raise taxes, although I think we should.

Another fake cutting taxes on the rich arguments. I mean at some point you guys actually have to look at things, right? That tax cut went to everyone.

I get that you hate Trump, but altering history because it makes you feel better has got to stop

He had 8 years.
So your position is that the Dems had to "fix" a Republican mess because the Republicans didn't reverse crappy Democratic policies that caused the mess?  Did I interpret your position correctly?

EDIT: I'll also add the real estate and derivative markets began to tank in 2005/2006.  So if you got a 7/1 ARM you took that loan in 1998 and 1999 and it wouldn't be eligible for refinance until 2005/2006.  So...

Go back to whatever time period you feel "America was great" and compare those tax rates to today, or even better, under that commie Obama.

Today's "radical liberals" are nothing compared to Eisenhower, Nixon, and Reagan.

Awesome news. Let’s see if he actually sticks by this, but not sure how many people could be against it. He said he’s not looking to raise taxes for anyone making under $400,000 so only the mega rich will be paying more which is long overdue.

The fact that you posted this tells everyone in here one of two things. Either you just follow party lines or you haven't read it and are just trolling. You aren't fooling anyone. I am done with this fishing trip.
Don't know why any Democrat deals with him. He obviously hates us.
