Bill and Ted’s excellent adventure. Maybe Better Off Dead.  Go ahead and shut the thread down now as we have the obvious winners.  😉

Friday the 13th

Poltergeist

Nightmare on Elm Street

ETA:  I watched Children of the Corn with my daughter on Halloween once.  It does not hold up well.  I remembered it being scarier when I was a kid.  My daughter was

1994, Luc Besson was a very little known French Director but his early work is so pulpy. Natalie Portman's 1st major role essentially and a Grand Tour de Force by Gary Oldman who pushes the most extreme possible envelopes to showcase "Dirty Cops" long before the current movement was in full swing. The film plays like a movie shot in the 70s.

Leon is one of my all time Favs, saw in the theater with a little pink haired art history major who would go on to be my wife. But it wasn't an 80s film I'm afraid.

Another film he did and is an 80s film from 1985 was Subway, check it out my friend.

I would argue that not many 80s horror movies hold up, even the others on your list.

A few I did not see mentioned and I have tons as the 80’s is the greatest decade of movies bar none.

Major League

Wall Street

Down and Out In Beverly Hills

Let it Ride

A Fish Called Wanda

Dirt Rotten Scoundrels

Some Kind Of Wonderful

Can’t Buy Me Love

Flash Gordon

Rivers Edge

Eddie and The Cruisers (I’m probably one of the few who really likes this one)
Hoosiers
Vision Quest
Pale Rider (I liked this mainly because it was basically a remake of Shane)
Purple Rain
The Last Dragon (I fell in love with Vanity, she was a beautiful woman)
St. Elmo’s Fire

Love that movie!  I probably watched it a dozen times once it hit HBO.  And agree 100% about Vanity

x2 -- actually had the soundtrack from this -- had never heard of John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band before that, but "On the Dark Side" was fire.

Reminded me of another "music" movie from the 80s that I loved -- as a movie and for the music -- Light of Day.

I mean, how could you go worng? Michael J. Fox, Joan Jett, eponymous song -- all of it, amazing.

My guess is that many of the comedies would not either. Nostalgia is a strong pull however when people make these lists.

The Little Mermaid

The Last Starfighter

The Abyss

Alien

Aliens

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (I personally also like 3 & 4)

Christine

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Once Upon A Time In America

Silverado

Big

Crocodile Dundee

The Neverending Story

Tucker: The Man and His Dream

Lethal Weapon 1 & 2

Tango & Cash

And a couple guilty pleasure horror movies that are pure 80's: Fright Night and Night of the Creeps
