Time to Totally Get Rid of the Democratic Party (1 Viewer)

Opie

Footballguy
In this day and age of erasing all that had to do with slavery, the Democrat party should have been the first to go.

No group or organization, in the history of the United States has done more to promulgate and promote slavery.

Name one group in the history of the US that has done more to promote slavery than the Democrat party.

Every statue, every proposed name change, and every erasure of anything associated with slavery, should go AFTER the Democrat party is eliminated.

Whatever dynamics have caused it (likely lack of education), many black people don't realize the history of the Democratic party. Virtually none know MLK was a Republican.

We teach history in our group. Lots of ugly that hardly any of them are aware of. Even what party freed the slaves.

It's enlightening to them.

This is laughably wrong. MLK never confirmed affiliation with either party.

You actually "teach" this lie to people? Good lord. "lack of education" indeed.

Riiiiiight. You might be thinking of Malcolm X, who was neither Rep or Dem, but leaned right, especially as he got older.

It's common knowledge. I'm not sure what else to tell you. MLK sure as hell wasn't a Democrat, LOL.

Do I need to post some links?

It may be common knowledge in whatever circle/bubble you live in, but it's wrong.

Martin Luther King Jr, the Civil Rights leader, never declared himself to be a member of the Republican party. Ever.

You have no links.

That's just the first thing that popped up.

Now, in your group, you can teach MLK as left-leaning if you want, but you know that'll be a lie.

We'll teach what's common knowledge & we'll do it proudly.

YOU ARE QUOTING A SIXTH GRADER'S BLOG!!!!

Kids Speak for America had its start in 2010 when 6th grader Seth Weinheimer was talking with a school friend. The two boys were talking about all the stupid things that seem to go on in government and with politics. They thought there should be a place for kid talk such as political talk, money talk, and government talk.  The boys said, “We might be kids but we see adults doing stupid things. Kids have ideas too and if adults would listen to us they might like some of them.” “We think that Kids can take their ideas to the news and work to make changes.” Soon thereafter with the help of Seth’s grandfather Terry, Kids Speak for America was born. link

OMG, I am dying here.  :lmao:

You do realize that SIXTH GRADE KIDS are not the authority on the history of the world, right? RIGHT? Please say that you realize that!

Is this what you use for your textbook when you "teach" people? This can't be serious. Is this real life?

What grade is this?

That's a blog. It does not provide a source except for this, which appears to be another unsourced blog.

Neither link contains any actual evidence that King was a Republican.

You are terrible at this. Really, really bad.
Haha.

Liberal. Anyone who claims lib for MLK can't be trusted.

He was openly liberal. He criticized both Republicans and Democrats for failing to pass liberal legislation:

"This coalition of southern dixiecrats and right wing northern Republicans defeats every move toward liberal legislation in Congress."
You have an odd take about MLK & one the vast majority of people disagree with.
It's not an odd take. I was sourcing MLK's own words. He wanted liberal legislation.

You see how that works? I make a claim, then I provide actual words from the actual person to back it up.

You have nothing but randos on web sites.

Anyone who links a 6th graders blog as fact can’t be trusted.
What grade was my other link?

I just told you it was the first thing that popped up. And I went & got another link for you.

Liberal. Come on, LOL. We can either have honest discussion or we can't. Which is it?

King is the one who used the word "liberal," in fact he used it quite often.

"There is a pressing need for a liberalism in the North which is truly liberal."

Seriously, might want to think about teaching that little factoid the next time your bubble gets together.

King was pro-liberal and called for more liberalism on a regular basis. I've already provided links to two of his more famous texts regarding it.

Seriously, you should look into it. Actually learn something, you know?

On a serious note, I always looked upon MLK as a Republican (remembering from school). That said, to be fair, I'll see what the teacher puts on the handouts. I've learned a lot of things, myself.

He may not have a party listed. I'm interested to see. I suppose you can make any claim you want about MLK, but his actions were certainly of a conservative nature.

Man, some of you guys have some thin skin. Haha.

I can't believe conservative views like mine & some of the others get you guys down like that.

Believe it or not, we don't look upon your views as trolling or schtick (not from what I've seen, anyway).

It's interesting.

But your statement about MLK is not accurate.  There are values from both parties MLK embraced and others that he did not.  For instance, MLK did embrace ideas that promoted income equality.   You can make a case he should have been, but he certainly wasn't.

Well, I've already admitted the Republican moniker was mine as I remembered from school. I'll see what the dude puts on the handouts.

That said, MLK has to be considered a right-leaner, IMO, but I'm not the teacher. The guy that does it teaches many of MLK's viewpoints.

That said, I suppose you can make any claim you want & teach it how you want.

I’m interested in this.  Was this a public high school teacher in Oklahoma that taught you MLK was a Republican?

“I am much more socialistic in my economic theory than capitalistic. And yet I am not so opposed to capitalism that I have failed to see its relative merits. It started out with a noble and high motive, viz, to block the trade monopolies of nobles, but like most human system it fail victim to the very thing it was revolting against. So today capitalism has outlived its usefulness.”

Martin Luther King, Jr.

We shouldn't define MLK by one quote. He had many.

This guy teaches many of MLK's principles & I'd bet most academics have him right of center, but I actually wrote a note to find out more (especially if he has him affiliated with a party).

Yeah, MLK was a very interesting dude.

Right of center by most accounts, but his legacy is compelling.
He was campaigning for worker's rights plus a universal guaranteed income and government-sponsored low-income housing as economic justice measures to lift up the living standard of the poor in this country when he was killed. He demanded a $30 billion annual investment in antipoverty measures, a government commitment to full employment, enactment of a guaranteed income and funding for the construction of 500,000 affordable housing units per year.  If you consider those conservative, or right of center, we have very different views of conservatives in this country.

"We ought to come in mule carts, in old trucks, any kind of transportation people can get their hands on. People ought to come to Washington, sit down if necessary in the middle of the street and say, 'We are here; we are poor; we don't have any money; you have made us this way ... and we've come to stay until you do something about it.'"

“Oh America, how often have you taken necessities from the masses to give luxuries to the classes… God never intended for one group of people to live in superfluous inordinate wealth, while others live in abject deadening poverty.”

“Just as nonviolence exposed the ugliness of racial injustice, so must the infection and sickness of poverty be exposed and healed–not only its symptoms but its basic causes.”

“We have so energetically mastered production that we now must give attention to distribution [of wealth].”

“We realize that dislocations in the market operation of our economy and the prevalence of discrimination thrust people into idleness and bind them in constant or frequent unemployment against their will.” A just response, King believed, was a guaranteed annual income “pegged to the median income of society, not the lowest levels of income.”

Probably a good place to leave this tweet

What if, and hear me out on this one, it’s actually the progressives who are the racists, the homophobes and the bigots, and they just use those lables on the rest of us because all they really want to do is control us?

I guess at some point, I don’t think the alleged debate matters, but why multiple supporters are driving the same point at the same time in the same way does. The Trump campaign is driving these claims - why?

Tell you what, we have a PS major who does most of our teachings.

I'll bring back his report...
I’m very interested to hear more about this group. You have teachings and handouts? Is it like a Bible Study or book club where people come prepared to discuss a particular topic and there is someone who leads the discussion?

I live in John Lewis’s district and have met the man a few times. He would have a hearty laugh about this thread if asked.
I was walking the streets downtown while on a work break and he walked right past me.  It took me a second to realize it was him and he was gone - wish I was paying better attention and could have thanked him for his service.  And I agree - he would get a good laugh.
