Libertarian Donald Rainwater is surging and could unseat incumbent Republican Eric Holcomb. The mandates and shutdowns have soured many conservative voters and Rainwater is also attracting some Dems as well.

His platform consists of eliminating state Income tax, eliminating property tax on your primary residence, constitutional carry and legalizing cannabis.

I’ve always sympathized with a lot of Libertarian positions but this is just nuts.
Speaking as a libertarian who usually votes for Libertarians, this is our own damn fault.  There is a really good libertarian case to be made for how to fight covid, specifically focusing on the incompetence and risk-aversion of the FDA and to a lesser extent the CDC.  This wouldn't be some new epicycle that we just invented -- people like me have been grousing about the FDA for decades.

But unfortunately, the Libertarian party is less Tyler Cowen and more naked-guy-yelling-about-seatbelt-laws so here we are.

Surprising as its a pretty conservative state.
It is, and current Governor Eric Holcomb has proven to be a RINO. He ponders to Chinese companies to fill Hoosier job openings. He's in bed with big Pharma and refuses to consider cannabis reform. There is recent speculation his mask mandates were influenced by deals with the teachers union. His refusal to call in the General Assembly at any point during the pandemic has many people irate. He is a prime example of what's wrong with big government.

Donald Rainwater is seen by many as the more conservative option.

What you call RINO sounds like almost every mainstream Republican in office today.

Some people fear for their safety, others fear for their jobs. The problem is that sometimes you vote for one, thinking you won't lose the other, except that you end up losing both.

Other than the cannabis thing..... these sound like the same steps Brownback used to "fix" the state of Kansas economy awhile ago, no?
