  1. Well, the bathroom is 90% done. Vanity and sink are in and operational. Shower door goes in this coming week, and then the toilet will be in. So we will be fully functional by next weekend. Master bedroom is painted and ready to go. Which means, I get to run again. Will try and run tomorrow morning, and then on Sunday it's my annual: "Chiefs Are In The Super Bowl So Run in Your Chiefs Gear Carrying a Chiefs Flag" run. Did this last year and it was a blast. Should be about 10 degrees on Sunday, so a nice crisp start to the day before the day-long hype begins.

  2. There are about 200M adults in the US. If 1% of adults hold bizarre and delusional beliefs, that's 2M nuts out there. In the olden days, you would bump into one of those people from time to time but it probably wasn't a regular occurrence. Today, though, those people have access to social media. It turns out that nuts are drawn to hot takes, and the social media infrastructure operates as if it were intentionally designed to amplify these folks. Sane, level-headed analysis gets read and forgotten, but crazy-wild insanity gets re-tweeted to the heavens. There's nothing wrong with la

  3. Only 6 of us sitting out on our deck but I have a huge party every year and since the Bucs are in it I can’t let up now. 3 racks of ribs smoked chicken homemade bacon baked beans on the smoker potato salad picked red onions and my wife makes two cupcakes every year to represent the cities playing but F Kansas City — for the beloved Bucs, Guava and cheese cupcake and then a tres leches with a coffee buttercream cupcake. Probably will be enough food for 15 people (I’d usually make 6 racks) so people are taking home leftovers.

  8. Thanks for asking, tri-man. It’s been a pretty rough go of it. The Bad: Pain management has been tough to get a handle on. She was in this state (blood alert) for 11 days, until she was able to have surgery (2 of 3 incisions visible). She had about a five day stretch where she ran a 100-103 fever, which apparently isn’t uncommon post-surgery, but which made her additionally miserable. She’s been essentially bed ridden since New Years Day, so that’s definitely taking a bit of a mental toll (the pain, boredom, regretting the steps that led to the injury, missing activities with our ki

  13. I'm parachuting into this kind of late, but it seems to me like this "Trump vs. Wilson" thing is kind of a good example of tribalism in action. We should all be able to agree that Trump and Wilson were both terrible presidents and also pretty lousy people. I don't personally see much controversy there. Where this discussion goes off the rails is when people get invested in whether the Blue Tribe Bad President was worse than the Red Tribe Bad President, or vice versa. I mean, they were both awful and we should be glad that neither is currently office. Who cares which is worse? For me

  14. OK, I'm awake before @Yo Mama, gonna grab this before he does. Round 173: Free Stylin' Fight the Power -- Public Enemy There are two versions of this, one from the Do The Right Thing soundtrack and one from Fear of a Black Planet. Either is fine for the playlist.

  15. Well I think it’s not as simple as “Hypocrisy! Lying! Drama Queen!” The two parties are scared of different things. This is glaringly obvious in every thread. People on the right talk about BLM protests like they’re the Hunger Games or something, with all the crazy rioting and murdering. Meanwhile a bunch of regular left-leaning people I’m Facebook friends with went to a bunch of BLM rallies without incident and posted about how proud they were to bring their elementary school kids there. (I’m sure my kids and I would have gone too if not for COVID). The BLM protesters were my friend

  16. In continuing my play of looking for EV/sustainable energy SPACs, I'll be looking to get into RMGCU tomorrow if I can get in in the $10s when it starts trading. They say they are looking to combine with a business that "has a large and growing market with an ESG and sustainability focus." This is RMG's third SPAC, their first was a merger with Romeo Power (lithium ion batteries for EVs), which ran from $10ish to $37 after the announcement, although it's back down to $18 now. And the COO was involved with a SPAC that merged with IEA, an engineering and construction company with a renewables

  17. I rocked some 80s today. (our playlist, not the poster). Goes without saying, but another great mix that was a blend of hits, different songs by bigger artists than their hits, and new stuff for me. A few new to me that I liked were: Charlie Sexton, Sparks, and Blow Monkeys Some different songs by familiar artists I liked were by: Whitney, Hall & Oates, Inxs, Go West, Howard Jones, Men at Work, and Eurythmics.

  18. You may all think this ended with a whimper but I still enjoyed the hell out of it. Thanks to @timschochet for setting it up and for @AcerFCdoing most of the data entry. The best part is I got a new job with the same company so I won't be out of job. Sorry that I wasn't as engaged on this one but that was kind of more important. At least to my wife. Congrats to @Yo Mamawho apparently needs to not watch so much TV.

  22. My opinion is that IPOE/SoFi will generate great returns for me and is an at least a 5 year hold. I have 1000 shares currently @ a 19 average and not worried about it. I was looking to add early last week in the 18's and then it exploded up. Still looking to add. This is probably a fine place to do it, but I'm greedy and want to wait until it's closer to 20. At 20, SoFi is a $17B company. My personal belief is that SoFi will become a $100B+ company at some point in 5 years.

  27. When it's that cold I pull it between my mouth and chin - the elastic is strong enough that it stays there and doesn't slide. Haven't needed to do that yet this winter, but it appears as though that time is coming - possibly in a couple hours. With the amended forecast I've also bailed on next weekend's race. At those temps I won't be running on snow; it'll be frozen snow. If I were 100% healthy the challenge may be fun, but I'm just now turning the corner on this injury so now seems like a suboptimal time to risk a setback. I'm resetting my sights on a different and longer (HM) trail rac

  28. Another day off of school, and windchill is to the point where the kiddo can't go out much. Yesterday I knocked out a playlist while cleaning and playing with her, and knocked out 3 movies Hope today is as "productive" She did get introduced to a new genre of music yesterday though. The word she had to think of others that rhyme with was junk, so after a couple she landed on funk, but claimed that wasn't a word, so I had to prove her wrong with some Parliament. She loved it, but to be fair she likes anything she can dance to.

  30. Round 173 Burning Love - Elvis Presley (Elvis) Speaking of karaoke - when I was in my early 30s and working at a law firm I went out to a club with the two mailroom guys and a bunch of young secretaries - all of whom were black or latino(a). I'm a nerdy white guy. Well the club was more of the same - out the hundreds and hundreds of people there I was one of three white guys. Upstairs they had karaoke - everyone was performing slow R&B jams or hip hop songs and taking it very seriously. I went up and did this song, complete with the Elvis poses and high leg karate kicks and the p

  32. I don't understand how people cannot comprehend that someone - especially a politican - would act in bad faith to capitalize on their own political position vis a vis the insurrection/riot. These are politicians we're talking about, and AOC seems willing to accumulate power at the expense of truths on many occasions. In addition, how many times has she been in hot water for basically condoning the riots (remember her what to wear and how to interact with the police tweet? The running water tweet? Pretty much every tweet?) and when the riots aren't on her side, she plays the fear card.

  35. Related: DALLAS, TX—While gay conversion therapy has long been thought to be ineffective, there may be a promising new method for converting the gays. Local gay man Landon Ellison was out protesting a Chick-fil-A in his city Wednesday morning when he got hungry. He looked around to make sure his fellow protestors weren't watching before slipping into the restaurant and ordering a classic chicken sandwich. "It's probably terrible," he sneered at the cashier, who only smiled and said it was her pleasure to have her place of work insulted. "I'll bet it tastes like HATE!"

  37. From Rob Maaddi: Lots of Carson Wentz talk here in Tampa. 2 team executives told me #Eagles should get at least a first-round pick for him. Neither thinks they could get two 1s. One says a 1 outside top 5. Other says a 1 in 2nd half of 1st round. Biggest question is will the Eagles do it.
