"We" don't saddle anybody with debt -- the student decides on their own whether they want to go to graduate school, and they also decide whether to borrow to finance their degree, whether to pay for it in cash, or some combination of the two. People who want to cancel student debt need to explain why people who chose to borrow should retroactively get their purchase for free, while people who chose to pay up front should get nothing.12 points

Big news for The_Son - just found out he got the Rubenstein Scholarship from Chicago! Full tuition + a $20,000 per year stipend. Last week he was fortunate enough to be offered a full-tuition scholarship from NYU (which is confusingly called the Vanderbilt Scholarship) but with the NYC cost of living, it is still going to be about $90,000 out of pocket to go there. Pretty sure he's going to take the Chicago offer, except that his girlfriend of 5+ years is living in NYC and working for the US Attorney there through Fall of 2022 when she plans to start law school. So he's got to figure out wheth12 points

LOL at Ted Cruz. In an article fir Fox News, Cruz explains that he wasn’t voting that the Senate lacked jurisdiction to try Trump, but rather that the Senate should decline to exercise its jurisdiction. But the motion voted on was “Is former President Donald J. Trump subject to a Court of Impeachment For Acts Committed When He Was President.” And Cruz voted no. Cruz easily could have presented his own motion concerning whether the Senate should decline to hear the case, but instead he just went ahead and answered “no” to a question of his own devising instead of the actual question11 points

Cobalt Blockchain, I'm sorry I ever doubted you. My boss emailed their CEO the following today: How about this for a press release: Dear Investor: We are attaching our stock price chart, a price chart of physical cobalt, as well as one for bitcoin (even though bitcoin and blockchain are decidedly different, but, in this market, who cares?) Finally, we wish to remind you that the name of our company is… COBALT BLOCKCHAIN. Thank you for attention and please forward to anyone you know in the Robinhood/Reddit community.8 points

Say what you will about QAnon people, but between the polyamorous tantric sex guru and that shaman guy who stormed the capitol, these people live lives that are incredibly more interesting than mine. I mean, here I am sitting in my office, and my big plans for the night involve getting slightly baked and playing XCOM. I feel like I'm kind of wasting my life here.8 points

Trump began this "the only way I can lose is if were rigged" months before the election. After the election he repeatedly told his supporters the lie that he had won the election in a landslide due to massive fraud. He told his followers to "stop the steal", "fight like hell", "don't let them take away your country" up to and the day of the insurrection. It is a funny coincidence that January 6th was the date of "rally" and that Trump finished speaking moments before the crowd began their march and assault on the Capitol, just as they were beginning the count. It is also a coincidence7 points

I think if its important to you to confirm your own patriotism, why not stand in your living room at home and play the national anthem each morning? Why limit it to sporting events and other public displays? I wouldn't judge you for doing that. What if you are home on your couch when the anthem is shown before a game - do you stand and ask those in your household to stand and assume the position until it is over? I don't appreciate a stranger questioning my patriotism due to my participation in a public ritual which I view as window dressing. Its fake patriotism to me - more an opportunity7 points

riot <> insurrection. I'd add that this isn't about criminalizing political speech and I think you know that. Let me put it very clear: the US congress has a constitutional duty to confirm the electoral college votes per the 12th amendment. Trump directly and indirectly interfered with that by (a) pressuring Pence to circumvent and (b) asking the crowd to march to the capital to disrupt their proceedings. This is a very clear and direct attack on a process explicitly mandated by the Constitution, of which I shouldn't need to remind you that Trump put his hand on a bible and5 points

Further proof that Trump planned all of this is that "Stop The Steal" was launched by Roger Stone.....in 2016. This was planned if he lost in the primaries, and then if he lost to Clinton, and finally got a chance to implemented it when he lost to Biden. It was a preconceived plan to propagate a dangerous lie and have his followers to act on it. https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/13/busines5 points

Kind of excited looking at my strava today. This will make 8 weeks in a row of running 20+ miles and 10 weeks in a row of running 3+ times per week. Much to my dog's chagrin, I have retreated to the treadmill quite a bit the last week or 2, but better than not running at all.5 points

You keep trying to equate BLM leadership (which is who exactly?) and the president of the United States. It's not even close to an apt comparison5 points

15. Space Cowboy -- The Steve Miller Band (from Brave New World) One of the best examples of how the blues became psychedelicized, this merges a thunderous rhythm that wouldn't sound out of place on a Muddy Waters record with freaky guitar pyrotechnics and far-out lyrics. It's also the first example of Miller including references to his older songs in a new song (here, Living in the USA and Gangster of Love), a trend which peaked with The Joker.5 points

VERY If you get a window to do something of substance then do it, but don't expect it. Time on feet is the priority when conditions are like this. If mother nature says the time on feet that day won't be quality then c'est la'vie, get out there anyway (within reason).5 points

Like most in here, I'm against some overarching plan to forgive student loan debt. Honestly, I think the concept is actually a bailout of higher education institutions. If the student loan market crashes, then the golden goose of students borrowing to fund their education dies. The concept that it costs $40K a year or more to house, feed and teach a single student for 9 months is ridiculous. They have bloated their budgets and formed what is a net drain on the economic output of our society. It is similar to the financial markets, where the value added is not as much as the costs asso5 points

Yea still taking D & C along with my multi-vitamin. Why not other than added expense? I'm all about attacking this through health as much as possible. I get it, just getting tired of the constant moving of the goalposts. Double masks work better than single masks, what about triple masks? Surely that will be 3 times as much protection!!! How about you wear the ####### mask over your mouth and nose, tight, as they are supposed to be worn? So tired of the chinstrap crowd. I've been wearing a surgical mask from day one, tight around my face and nose. Have tested it with a candle5 points

I only read a few of the tweets, the ones in the articles that reported her firing, and it seems like she was punted for poorly stating her point, i.e. being bad making analogies. I would guess she was warned before and this was more of a last straw sort of thing. On a tangent note, everybody sounds dumb when comparing anything in the US to Nazi Germany.5 points

#3 - The Cure - 10:15 Saturday Night (1978) Originally released as the b-side to the Cure's debut single "Killing an Arab", "10:15 Saturday Night" was the first track on the band's up-and-down first album (for me, "Fire in Cairo" is really the only other memorable song). I love 10:15, but I don't know that anyone could have listened to "Three Imaginary Boys" and predicted that the Cure would end up in the RnR HoF. Everyone in the band looks like such little kids in this video. ETA: I don't know which is my favorite part - the bassline, the guitar solo, or "drip, drip, drip...5 points

Well and the other issue with the argument you're responding to: At some point we need to stop the what aboutism's. Trump incited an insurrection. I don't have the words for how bad that is. But instead of "Holy crap, Trump incited an insurrection," the argument quickly becomes "well what about the BLM and Antifa riots?!" Why do we need to discuss that to discuss the Trump insurrection? Can we not all just agree that the insurrection was bad regardless if anything else happened? Both sides are guilty of it. I hate when the leftist posters do it. I know the rest of the Rep5 points

If the President could put Jack Dorsey on mute, that would be dystopian. That a private citizen can effectively put The United States President on mute is a triumph of technology, as well as of constitutional democracy and the rule of law.4 points

My wife's ER and ICU team has been using double masks since the beginning. It was done to save N95s for reuse. N95 on the inside, surgical mask on the outside. She never got sick, and no one at her work has gotten covid at work. The few who got it, got it from a wedding, funeral, family gathering etc. where no one was wearing masks. Always seemed obvious to me that masks work and the problem is there are too many times people don't wear masks. Double masking at the Home Depot doesn't really help if you go maskless during a Super Bowl party. Its weird to me that people are wi4 points

Rewatching those highlights...his vision is seriously top tier. He's seeing the space, and understanding both teams' shape for crafting passes in a way that's really world class. AND he's hitting the passes with timing, accuracy and weight...just amazing. And that doesn't even account for his ability on the dribble and understanding what's coming ahead of time...similar to how he's receiving the ball- incredible understanding and anticipation. I know it's not THE bundesliga, but incredibly promising to see him given the apparent reins to this team so quickly, and to be steering things so4 points

I just read the article. I honestly thought it was going to be about some shadowy group of people that were trying to influence everyone to vote against Trump. I have to say I'm disappointed at Trumper's that point to this as some sort of evidence. The whole article was about making sure this was a fair election. And by the actions that Trump took after the election, I would say thank goodness for these people.4 points

And why were they chanting death threats about Pence? Because Trump, the ####### President of the United States filled their gullible heads with utter nonsense that Pence had the ability to “stop the steal”. And then, on that very day, attacked him for not doing so. How anyone could conclude that Trump is not responsible, or somehow fit to run for office again, is absolutely bananas. The false analogies and conflating the summer riots with the insurrection is either disingenuous or naive and dangerous for the future health of American democracy.4 points
