  1. My god in this world, Willie Mays, is 90 years old today. I will celebrate this, not with some ol' man nostalgia tour, but by telling you what having #24 as my deity has taught me. THE WORLD IS SOME BULL#### I knew the above as soon and surely in my life as that kisses are sweet and milk builds strong bones, simply because the Greatest Person in the World was a black man from Alabama who could not drink water........frikkin water.......wherever water was because some bald-faced bohunks took fulfilment out of degrading generation after generation of a society of men, women and childre

  2. Wanted to say thanks for the great discussion. Every year, people message me about how the boards are dying and they'll soon be gone or something else. And every year I'm impressed by the quality and quantity of discussion. I'm not sure many "dying" boards have topics fly off the first page as quickly as they do here. Thanks for being here. Rock on.

  3. I was waiting to update until I knew where Peter would be going to college next year, so here goes: Peter will be attending Washington University in St. Louis this fall. He'll be studying engineering. He seems really excited about it. WashU apparently has special housing options for trans students if they want them but Peter isn't interested. He'll be living on campus in a suite with all male students, presumably his roommate and all his suitemates will be cis guys. That's something he's really looking forward to. The school allows people to just get randomly matched with roomma

Sometimes people make jokes that step over the line but the ‘punishment’ is a lot harsher than it should be. You have logs of timeouts people have been given so it shouldn’t be much work to see if it’s deserved or not. I understand it’s a business but nobody is going to stop subscribing because they saw a poster make a joke like that, especially if it got deleted fairly quick. You’re far more likely t

  8. We have SO MANY other threads where we can be richards to one another. Let's not let this one be one of those. This thread has always been a Switzerland of sorts, with politics left outside the saloon doors and genteel behavior towards each other the only brand on tap. My two cents....Let's make some money and have a festive weekend!

  10. I want everyone to also see what happened to Apple and Amazon. They reported insanely great quarters. Ridiculous actually. And.......? Nothing. Now imagine if they came in under expectations in this frothy market. 10-12% easy drop....easy, maybe more. This company came in a penny under expectations (6 cents loss vs 5 cents) and sells off 20%. Why? New technology, new frontier type technology and far smaller than the mega giant tech of AMZN and AAPL. I remember when AMZN was volatile as all hell......same with AAPL. These are the growing pains of disruptive technology st

Slight tailwind on the out- which you can see on my strava with the pace dipping up and down slightly depending on which way I was heading. There was a 5k and 10k that started 10mins after us and followed the same course, but with a shorter turn around point. M1-2 see above. Once I realized I wasn't going to hang with the winner, it was a bunch of open mileage with nobody to pace off of. But I felt good and settled into a pace that felt pushed but comfortable- 7:05-7:10. I didn't want to blow up my first tim

Of course this is the CEO speaking but the vision is very clear for them and they are seeing orders accelerating in 2023 and beyond. I agree. Fuel Cells are the future. Don’t be surprised to see this stock in the mid 30’s by year end with all the announcements that will happen over the course of this year. Demand is starting to pent up as countries and companies are moving to zero carbon by 2030. This is the class of the fuel cell sector IMO. The IP they have is second

  14. Great Western Half Marathon This race is an out and back course on a trail that was converted from an old defunct railroad line. The trail is about half asphalt and half crushed, smooth limestone. So a race technically on a trail but not a “trail race” since it is as easy to run on as road. Last night I mentioned a goal of 1:20 ish (yes, I know, I’m supposed to write 80:00). To expand on that, I guess my goal was 79:50. Tri-man pointed out that way down on the bottom of the website to the race, they list course records by age group. The record for the 50-54 age group was 79:51

I was left speechless and after an uncomfortable pause they asked if the vaccine was a requirement. I said No out loud, but said to myself not thinking the vaccine will alter your DNA is a requirement.

It's not just the commute, lunch, coffee breaks, etc The money I waste on gas, parking, wear and tear on my car, maybe tolls are all a big deal too. But just in terms of work, unless everyone on my team is in my office, I still have to use zoom/slack or whatever tools you guys use to have my meeting. Have you ever run a meeting where half the people are on zoom and the other half are in a physical room together? It sucks. You'll end up with everyone on zoom. 19. I promised you guys a race report, so here goes. I’m not going to spend a lot of time on the pre-story, but suffice it to say that I wasn’t feeling super confident coming into this race. With a newborn at home, my training had been inconsistent at best—I had a couple bigger weeks, and I did manage to do one 20-miler and a couple 18s, but I didn’t really do much quality, and my overall mileage wasn’t anywhere near where I’d normally like it to be. On top of that, I was probably 10 pounds over my ideal racing weight, and at 1-2 seconds/mile/pound, you're talking 4-8 extra minutes. Bottom

We are down about 20-22% based on our average cost basis. That is not life changing on a position that makes up 2-3% max of our entire portfolio. For those who are long term investors it is foolish to sell here. If your gambling...and trying to trade you may want to cut your losses here because it will take till at least year end to get this all sorted out. I think the stock can easily get back to 65-70 once t

Been getting worse, but I don't know what it is or what to do about it. Anyways, knock out out the first few kms at a decent pace. At 7K, my headphones die. Despite showing 40% charged at the start of the run. Sigh. This, combined with my leg pain, makes me just want to head home and call it a day. But I stick with it. They have a separate food prep area for kids with allergies, a dedicated chef, and she can schedule/text/request in an app what she wants for each meal and pick it up and eat with all the other kids. Such a relief. Meanwhile at St. Mary's the contact "joked" to her, "sounds like you'll have to eat steamed veggies every meal." That didn't land well. So last night I got to watch her, via Zoom, click the Accept button on the Davis admissions portal!

So yeah......it is hope. Much like Apple and Amazon were two decades ago. This is how it starts. And this is why you only invest what you are willing to lose in stocks like this. And as time goes on that hope can either turn into tangible earnings and a legitimate great business or it will go to zero. That is the stock market. That is it, in it’s very fundamental essence and about as simple as we

Anyway without any further ado: 1. Jax=Trevor Lawrence QB Clemson, he's been the #1 pick since long before we knew who'd have the pick. About as complete a package as you can have for a QB. 2. NYJ=Zach Wilson QB BYU, has such a quick release. Like Favre-esq. He'd be the #1 pick in many drafts. 3. SF=Justin Fields QB Ohio St, love his aggressiveness throwing deep, and his mobility. He's the #1 dynasty QB if h

As an honest answer from someone who trends right of center, I am more likely to vote for a democrat than a republican for two reasons. 1) I dislike the positions of the far left (pull police funding, reparations, free college) a lot less than the positions of the far right (god in school, isolationism). One side wants to give more without any way to pay for it. The other wants to take without any consideration of what's being taken. 2) I trust centrist democrats more than centrist republicans. A whole party went over Niagara Falls with Trump. Biden and Harris represent the power of the

He actually told me in January 2020 that that would be the year, and we all know what happened. So this whole Covid thing is my fault, sort of... Anyway, he's still on board and I'm scheduled to receive my first vaccine shot on Sunday. The plan is to head down in early June or July. I'm planning to do my stay in Barranquilla, mainly because I have good friends there who I trust. I figure staying for 3 months is a lot different than staying for a week,

"My Old Kentucky Home" is played during the post parade prior to the Derby being run - it's one of the most beautifully melancholic tunes one could hear - and when played in that setting, well ... it defini

They are very entrenched on one side of the isle and the vaccine has become insta-death in their heads. I honestly gave up hope on it. That's crazy" about the health care mandate indicate that she's actually probably the most partisan; least informed and, by extension, least intellectually curious; and most mendacious speaker in recent memory, making her the worst speaker in history. That you can't see that puts you on the left of many people on this board who are very left. She embodies everything wrong with our political class that we send to Washington. Truly revolting.

While it feels a little weird to pass up Top 40 schools like Tulane or BU for one that's not in the Top 100, it's where my kid wants to go and is excited to be. I believe that's the real key for success (especially with this kid), rather than the name of the school. And it's the one school that's going to be essentially free for us, which - not going to lie - is going to have some very positive impacts on my life.
