  1. Very encouraging "tempo" for me this morning. First mile easy-in at 6:21 followed up by four miles at 5:54, 5:50, 5:42, 5:49. I wore my fast shoes. I hadn't worn them since spring since they weren't great for my foot injury. That injury is better now. Overall time was 29:40. That ties my 5 mile race PR coincidentally even with the slower first mile. Fastest I've ever run a four mile stretch ever. Perceived effort was less than race effort. I must be in better shape than I thought. I'm not running tons of miles but it must be some combination of consistency, strength ex

  4. Mom's friend Pat is keeping up the fight! This is the last call for Jimmy Buffett, so this next song is for mom and Pat. My dad used to go to Las Vegas once a year for an IBM convention. Mom usually didn't go with him, but Pat loves to gamble (she claims the medication she takes for restless legs makes her want to gamble), so a couple times they went down with him. Pat's husband went one time, but not the last. Anyway, Pat had all these perks from gambling (she plays the slots). She had the option to use some of her gambling freebees she had collected to see Jimmy Buffett at the MGM if she wan

  5. 58. .38 Special “Hold On Loosely” (from Wild Eyed Southern Boys) https://youtu.be/vJtf7R_oVaw So these guys were a sort of a poor man’s Allman Brothers Band/Lynyrd Skynyrd (check out the video, they so look the part). They couldn’t quite match the sublime quality of those two legendary bands, but .38 Special did have some excellent moments such as this effort and “Caught Up In You” a year later, two tunes which have passed the test of time and still get regular airplay- because they’re excellent.

  9. Well la-di-da I'm just going to roll out of bed at 5 because I need an hour to get all the fat in my midsection to wake up and get ready to travel fast and then throw on my fast shoes that I haven't even had to wear lately even though I'm still really fast and go out with a really slow first mile at 6:21 because that's just a warmup and finally crank up the pace faster than most of you can sprint and just do that for a few miles and PR and without even really doing a race effort or anything so I can still just go about my day like it's no big deal before you guys even wake up and think of knoc

  13. SPAC How-to from an email I just got from a fintwit follow, good basic primer: 5 Steps to Buying Units: 1. Download a quality brokerage that doesn't rhyme with Shrobinhood. The reason for this is because you need to have a brokerage with customer service that will answer your calls. Common brokerages include: Schwab, TD Ameritrade: Think or Swim, Interactive Brokers, E-Trade, Fidelity. (If you want more info on which brokerage to choose, DM me on Twitter @SPACdaddy or elsewhere & I'll tell you which one is the move for you) 2. To find units of your favorite SPACs, sear

  14. My second week weight loss is just 0.4 pounds. Probably introduced some carbs with flourless bread as I strive for a well balanced diet. Certainly never hungry and, overall, am eating very healthy. Weight moving in the right direction and I'm willing to be patient. First weeks weight loss was well above pace so maybe this is things leveling off. No alcohol in two weeks... not against it and might imbibe a little Whiskey except, sometimes, you just need to take some time off. I'm sure some of you can understand. Foot feeling much better; Gave it a couple extra rest days to avoid

  15. 224.8 or 12 - Ivo Papasov / Yuri Yunakov - Filips Kyuchek (Globalization 2) I was briefly obsessed with Papasov and his Bulgarian Wedding Band around 1990. The band's breakneck runs on clarinet, sax and accordion end up somewhere in the vicinity of Klezmer, Ornette Coleman and cartoon soundtracks. I remember dragging Mrs. Eephus and my friend Earl from Digital Underground to see Papsov play at some Slovenian Hall on a rainy night . We've been to some strange shows over the decades but that may have been the most Caucasian. Like a lot of non-Western artists, Papasov's streamin

  17. I'm here to say masks must apparently work. So my youngest daughter is in pre-k and multiple kids in her class have tested positive for covid. So we waited 1 week and then went and got her tested. Came back negative. So either masks really do make a difference (and she is great about wearing them, especially for a 5 year old) or she's just so damn beautiful that this ugly virus can't touch her. Either way, I'm relieved.

  18. Just got to test out the Costa Rican Healthcare system! Had a blister form and and get pretty swollen around it on my hip. Had gotten a worse over the last 4 days so hit the doctor. Didn't know if it was a bite or what... no idea what to expect. Turns out it was an ingrown hair that had formed a pretty good abscess. That's a first for me. He said it was good I decided to go see him given how large it had gotten. He pulled in a cart with an Ultrasound to check it out. Showed me the screen and explained everything. Had me head over to another room w a table... he numbed it with

  26. This reminds me of a college spring break trip to CR. When we got back, my gb roommate had a couple bump/bites kinda like you're describing- one on his jaw, one on his shoulder. Within days of getting home, the things blew up to the size of baseballs. Dude was actually a male model...girls used to approach me all the time, just so they could talk to him. Except now, he was the hunchback of notre dame with a baseball growing on his jaw. I told him I was moving out when the baby spiders hatched and came pouring out of those things.

  27. Yep. It's part and parcel to the revaluing of values that the left has shoved so relentlessly down our throat. It's like wondering why church and state erosion happened under the auspices of a born-again president leading a born-again march through policy and court appointments. The libertarian/fusionist right had to own the reduction in church/state separation in the aughts because their coalition included those that were pushing church/state issues, and the left and their coalition cohorts should really have to own stuff like this since this is of the left's coalition own making. It's n

  30. It's about the spread of it. We're really back to Masks 101. Holy ####. They really should take away people's rights at times. I've become convinced that certain adults don't understand enough about what used to be civic responsibility to have certain rights. This board convinces of that every day, both left and right.

  31. We apparently are. Holy criminy. I think, for some people, we never left Masks 101 and those that failed Masks 101 are hollering the loudest about failing it but, hey, grade inflation and nobody wants to deal with them, so they get passed on. The American public has never -- and I mean this -- acted more stupid than in this pandemic.

  42. You really must have done the herky-jerk on your way out of the Republican party, because you and sho have bent over through every contortionist's pose to help bulwark the left in their march through every institution that never really asked for the radical wing of such to be there. In the event of the seemingly ridiculous, you guys sure have a knack for breaking the glass and introducing red herrings and semantics all over the place. In this instance, it happens to be focusing on whether Republicans should be focusing on topics of their choosing. Republicans: Look at this ridiculousness!
