  1. So I'm not sure exactly what I'm hoping for out of this thread, but here goes. Maybe somebody else has a similar story and will find this helpful. Or maybe it can just be used to promote acceptance. Some of you may have seen me mention my 16-year-old daughter Talia in the past, mostly in the Political Subforum. Most notably here in the Pete Buttigieg thread, where @Sinn Fein managed to get the architect of Pete Buttigieg's campaign to shoot a happy birthday video in an attempt to dispel the conspiracy theory that Buttigieg was just faking being gay. Anyway, in late March, the c

From improbably unlucky bouts with IVF to fostering children (see the "trouble getting pregnant" thread) and having the state clear us for adoption only to essentially tell us "just kidding" a short while later (chronicled mostly here in this thread: https://forums.footballguys.com/forum/topic/759463-preparing-fordealing-with-the-loss-of-a-child/page/5/#comments ) it's been a ride. That ride ended today with us adopting two chidren (including the little boy we had from his birth until two when the state

Before I forget, @El Floppo - sorry, dude. You confronted me like, IDK, 18 months ago? But I was in denial and going through trauma and my head was all effed up. I should have come clean and laid it out. You’re a good man & would not have been judgmental at all. In hindsight I should have allowed you to know my story. Next lunch is on me. Anyway, how d

  4. I don't know what to say. I've felt gutted, distraught, for the last few hours. But the above sums it up pretty well. Tom might be the person I've communicated with the most on here, without ever talking to him or meeting him IRL. We grew up at the same time in the same place and had so many of the same memories. And of course our shared musical interests brought us together, too. He still owes me his write-up of "Across the Universe," a Beatles song perhaps no one loved more than Tom and I did. But more than anything, we became close because he was just the kindest and most caring

I know it's been a tough season for everyone and I wanted to thank all of the great folks who came in here while craziness surrounds your everyday real life and help build an escape that has soothed and also helped speed along the last many months going back to Week 1. I hope next year we aren't reliving this same event, that it was a one time occurrence and things will go back to normal whatever that definition is. Honestly I have

  9. I can't believe it's been 6 months since we re-opened. That last update was mostly meaningless. We tried take-only for just a couple of days. All it did was make customers mad, which of course is not generally a good idea. So, we've been chugging along. Business not what it used to be, but much better than I expected it would be. Plenty good enough for now. And really, 4 months of zeros changes perspective a little. Any day getting the opportunity to wake up in the morning and be able to go to work is such an incredible blessing. Anything that happens from there is just an added bon

  10. Good morning. Value/dividend picks today for those seeking current income, and some long term moderate growth. These stocks are highly defensive. MDU EXC VZ GIS GSK PFE LMT These are not sexy in today's GME/AMC/SPAC/Bitcoin frenzy/roulette wheel casino market we see right now LOL. These are real stocks, with real earnings, and real strong and growing dividends. Buy them with the utmost confidence for long term compounding and a defensive sleeve for your portfolio. Take care folks.

It's malignant. She just turned 69 and hasn't had a cig in almost 40 years. Dad doesn't smoke either except when I'm a horrible influence on him and we're getting drunk together. SWEAR TO GOD, SAVE IT, everything will be okay one way or another. I admit that I'm scared to death that if she were to pass Dad would be right behind her. They love each other so much. 18. Australia has had months of little to no community spread and even then it was confined to one state. By and large Australians are running around doing the right thing, sport was and is still happening with crowds. Christmas shopping, the economy, restaurants are all doing great. Yesterday there were 30, not 300, 3000, 30000 or even 300000 cases, confined to the northern beaches of Sydney. That area is locked down, while the potential spread is dealt with. People are wearing masks. Contact tracing is putting people into quarantine. People are behaving responsibly while the governmen

  19. Just hit my biggest slot jackpot, $11.5K, on a $2.50 bet. This was a big shock, it was on a Dragon Link slot called Golden Century. They paid me in cash, I was kinda of surprised, I was expecting a check since it was a large amount. Biggest slot win I had before was $2K. I know playing slots is not a smart way to gamble, but it is so entertaining and every once in a while you can get real lucky. I was a little leery walking out of the casino with that amount of cash. I did a couple of laps around the floor of the casino to make sure I wasn’t being tailed. Also, I know you are not r

"We" don't saddle anybody with debt -- the student decides on their own whether they want to go to graduate school, and they also decide whether to borrow to finance their degree, whether to pay for it in cash, or some combination of the two. People who want to cancel student debt need to explain why people who chose to borrow should retroactively get their purchase for free, while people who chose to pay up front should get nothing.

  24. Trump should be impeached again. If he's not impeached again, he must be prosecuted. The penalty for attempting to remain in power by corruptly overturning an election cannot simply be that it didn't work. If that's the only consequence, every President who loses an election should try to illegally remain in power by whatever fraudulent means he can think of. The upside if you succeed is that you can become king. The downside if you fail is ... what? Nothing? That doesn't seem like a good set of incentives.

EBF, ZWK, and others put a lot of work into their stuff and are constantly thinking about things and producing content. This isn't really to single anybody out, but I think these guys are in the front of my mind as guys that (at least once upon a time, like Xue) contributed regularly to dynasty and rookie threads in the specific sense that they took a ton of broad-based information and winnowed it down for us laymen. Zyphros now also especially contributes in this sense, as does barackdho

Thankfully it appears that the system is holding, but we've seen more than enough first hand evidence that many modern Republicans would happily ignore democracy if given the chance.

I know I preferred Buttigieg and Klobuchar, but I don't remember who else I had ranked higher. I think I had a bunch of people ranked higher, and probably had Biden outside the top five. In hindsight, I should have ranked Biden a lot higher. He's what we needed right now. Not only is he very solidly in my retroactive top five, but I might even put him at #1 ahead of Buttigieg just because I think it's important, right now, that we have a President who's been in Was

Tom had an incredible way about him inasmuch that he had the ability to take the most mundane/random topics and make them the single most fascinating correspondence - he made you feel like you were the most important person in the room - a selfless trait that was exhibited in his real life day to day, taking care of those he loved, giving of himself 'til it hurt. there was one constant through our countless PMs and convos - and that was his propensity to share everything of himself ... i recall him first bouncing his photography about, and asking me to highli

Peter's name has now been legally changed and we're dealing with some different bureaucratic challenges to change all of his legal documents (passport, birth certificate, etc.) He's continued with the testosterone and his appearance has gradually been changing. It's hard for me to judge because I've known him his whole life but my perception is that strangers he encounters just assume he's lived as a male his whole life. Here's the problem with that position (from my point of view, and I venture to guess the point of view of everyone that is not a supporter of Donald Trump and/or the GOP currently) (and I truly don't mean this as an attack or gotcha at all, I'm just using the post as a starting point): Words mean things. They always have and they always will. No one, no party, no group, no religion, no country, no government, ever uses them perfectly every time. However, clinging to the overriding cultural norms of the use of words - especially in politics, law and government - matters a great deal. A

  41. I’m a 180 from this guy. The mainstream media’s normalization of Trump’s psychotic, infantile behavior these past several years is inexcusable. Never has a public figure been treated with kid gloves like this man was. He said and did things on a daily basis, day after day for years, that are completely unacceptable in any professional setting, and the media essentially stopped reporting it, I suppose out of fatigue more than anything.

Links to Shark Pool player profiles are provided (compliments of @Faust) where they were available, otherwise, I just linked to some highlight tape, so you can familiarize yourself with the player, if you wish. I left off my player analysis for now, as well as my "range of comparisons". I will add those later, but it seemed a bit premature yet. Most of my rankings are penciled in, with the idea that they are very, very preliminary.

  46. This is part of the problem Joe. Your friend has a good message. He sounds like a terrific guy. But he's parroting lies from conservative media. He thinks this is a message of healing but it's still sowing division. It's like when Trump posted a message yesterday saying "the election was stolen, you guys raiding the Capitol are patriots, but you should go home." I mean, sure the "go home" part sounds good. But it does nothing to dissipate the anger that people feel as a result of having been manipulated by right wing media and right wing politicians.

After my mom/Nonny died (about two years ago now), a pair of mourning doves started visiting us. One will remain up on a wire and the other will forage around the yard or garden, drink from the bird bath (got that for my wife on mother's day) or hop around the bern where we planted a dogwood on top of my mom's ashes. Even for a godless heathen like me, I find it comforting and so when it started, I began saying "Hi nonny!" when the dove would come visit. She
